Sometimes when people ask me where I live, I'm tempted to tell them Smithville because I'm actually much closer to that downtown than I am KC's. I'm kinda' surprised KC hasn't annexed Smithville by now. I live in what used to be Nashua, before KC annexed it. Lots of homes up here still on well water.
If you're ever up in Smithville again, driving southbound on US-169 right before Hwy 92, you'll see the only roadsign I've ever seen that indicates Nashua is 5 miles ahead.

And, by the way.....
You guys act like staying down in Johnson County is some sort of long drive to the stadium. When I go down for Royals games I always stay down there and it's an easy drive from a place right off 435. Traffic is longer for a Chiefs game, obviously, but if you drive from say, Liberty to Arrowhead, the traffic gets pretty nasty heading south on 435 on gamedays. I have sat in that left lane not moving for long periods of times on gameday. But then again, you're going to have a slow ride from anywhere on Chiefs gameday.
I already said if he doesn't rent a car then I would stay closer, obviously. If he does rent a car, I'm not sure what your hatred for all things Johnson county is. It's an EASY drive to anywhere you need to go on the Missouri side and you'll be staying in a nicer area. I used to have no problems going to the casino, The K, Westport, etc. when I lived downn in Olathe. The only time it was brutal was during that annoying construction they had on I-35 up around Lamar Avenue and extending north. It did get to be quite a beeyotch, but that was 2 years ago.

Shut the fuck up. These Missouri residents are easy as shit to bait into a pointless argument. Don't ruin my fun.
You can always tell what side of the KC metro someone lives in based on how they speak and it's quite obvious that War Wagon is clearly a Missouri resident and probably lives in Section 8 housing like the rest of them.

I need good eats and entertainment without breaking the bank.
:paul:
Funny… I actually thought of you last week at the Chiefs-Jags game. Some Canucklehead held up a sign a couple of sections over that read: “Canada loves the Chiefs” or some such nonsense…
Given your sporty new av, Marty, I had a notion to run over and snap a pic with my cell to post on this board, but that would’ve required effort and me having to set down my beer. So no pic.
I suppose if you were looking to send your kid to school here or take up residence and work in this town, you might want to heed Scott’s take. The Kansas City School District is heavy on poor test scores and Superintendant's severance packages. And our nice little 1% earnings tax ought to make you feel reminiscent of home – a usurious income tax that guarantees little or no city services in return.
But since I have a feeling that you’re simply looking for a couple of days of fun, please note that the only thing Scott knows about Kansas City is that it’s the town he has to drive through to get to the airport.
Couple of things to keep in mind. December in KC isn’t exactly balmy. Oh, sure, it’s no Winnipeg, but it ain’t exactly Miami either. Dress accordingly. Second, multi-colored money with pictures of loons and queens won’t buy piss here. Other than that, the locals are friendly and helpful for the most part, so you should get along fine.
Several of the brethren have referenced the P&L, which is a nice touristy place with all the ambiance of a suburban office park. The nine dollar beers at Angel’s Rock Bar will have you thinking exchange rates until you realize that those are dead presidents on your green backs. No, Marty, you need to consider Old Westport. Yes, there is an outside chance that you could be robbed or killed in this historic, boozy old bar district, but what the hell is life without a little drama?
Actually, the Q Hotel is located in the heart of Westport and should appeal to a guy with a budget. And billing itself as KC’s only green hotel should appeal to your political persuasion as well. The Q also has a shuttle service to-and-from the airport, and Kincaid Coach provides express bus service that will jet you straight to Arrowhead on game day, saving you the expense of car rental.
Westport features an eclectic mix of at least three dozen bars and restaurants and all are within three-to-four blocks of your hotel. And Closing time is 3:00 AM. Keep in mind that's go time for the weekend drive-bys. Get in at a sensible hour and you should be OK.
Live music will be on tap that weekend at many of Westport's venues (I checked), and no trip to KC is complete without having at least one beer at Kelly’s . If you do get the notion to dine a bit more upscale or do some shopping, the Country Club Plaza lies less than a mile to the south. You won’t be able to miss it: The Christmas Lights in the Plaza light up the night sky for miles.
If you wanna hear more, drop me a pm. Regardless, you ought to have a pretty good time.

You told Marty to stay in OP like it's some kind of chic - when if you knew anything about the area you'd know it's as ugly and crime ridden as everything else inside the 435 loop.
Nice try, dolt. Do you actually live in Kansas City? And I'm the poser? You're fucking dumb, not me.
Let's compare a couple of stats from that list from the URL provided....
Of the Top 100 places to live....
OP is average or above average in terms of lowest crime rates.
OP is above average in terms of average household income
Like I said, KCMO resident is not typically too smart. Hence why the only city in the area that ranks high in ANYTHING positive is Lees Summit. Spin it all you want, cry about me providing the TRUTH- but the fact of the matter if, with the exception of a few small areas (ie Truman Sports Complex, Power & Light, Westport, Harrah's), KCMO is an absolute DUMP. People with money live in Johnson County. Sorry you're poor and probably live in Section 8 housing with War Wagon. It's not my fault. Don't blame me. Blame your parents for screwing up so bad with you. Maybe try getting a real job instead of doing some shitty labor job that pays $12 an hour like War Wagon does. Just a little advice. Actually, never mind. Don't do that. Keep doing what you're doing and making it easy for me to pick on retards like yourself and laugh about how much better than you I am. I always love pissing off my inferiors.

But here's the thing........if you're going to Kansas City for vacation, you're lame as shit. Kansas City is a great weekend/sports trip destination. I understand not too many people are road trip junkies like me that are constantly traveling (for business or personal reasons), but who the hell goes to Kansas City on an actual vacation? I go down there for Royals and Chiefs game or to play poker. Outside of the time I lived there, I don't think I have ever spent more than 3-4 days in Kansas City and it's ALWAYS been for a specific reason (Royals game, poker, etc).
He's going for a game. Get a nice place, stay in a nice neighborhood. There's no city culture to experience. KC is one of those towns where, except for the nightlife district, it's just a shithole and you're better off in the nice suburbs. I like living in suburbs, but I don't usually like traveling somewhere and staying there. KC, in my opinion, is one of those cities that is the exception.
You're right, it's not like he's going to get shot staying at a Hilton or somewhere in KCMO. I'm not saying that. What I'm saying is it is completely pointless and he'd be better off in a nicer area. But like I said, if he's not renting a car and doesn't want to spend a fortune on cab fare, just stay in KCMO. This is why you rent a car so you don't have this problem.

Yep - beacuse if this passes, and they then eventually vote down the earnings tax KC is fucked. On the Radio yesterday I heard Nick Wright saying it's 40% of KC's budget. That shortfall would have to be made up somewhere - hello triple property taxes. He also said 40% of the revenue from the earnings tax is generated from People outside KC (hello JoCo glad to see you worthless fuckers paying for something)

I once took the family to KC for a short vacation when time didn't permit a longer trip.
What to do? Worlds of Fun/Oceans of Fun, Royals/Chiefs, KC zoo, Negro League Hall of Fame, Truman Library, etc.
Hell, I even spent the first night of my honeymoon in KC, and made a stop on our trip home to catch a Royals/Red Sox game. One thing that's certainly never been suggested for a family vacation is a trip to Massafuckinchusetts.

You've got a bad case of East Coast snobbishness, combined with the misconception that anywhere west of the Appalachians and east of the Rockies is uninhabited.
KC is the only city within a rather large radius that has both an NFL and MLB franchise. That alone makes it a hub. People come here from all over the midwest just for that.
