What's a Canadian to do in KC?
Okay...I got an offer on 3 tics for the Chiefs/Broncos game on December 5th...(endzone nosebleeds, but I can't be picky)...
So if I make it a 3-day weekend, what's an Upper Messican bruthah to do in KC?
I need good eats and entertainment without breaking the bank.

Well Marty you could finally find out how well you, uh, "measure up" to certain board luminaries. Don't you want to know if you're as beefy and huge as ucant or as gelatinous as Bsmack or OCMike?

BBQ actually, though we do have more than our fair share of good steak joints. Not far from the P & L, near Crown Center at 29th and Grand I believe, is Hereford House. Bring a fat wallet if you go there.Martyred wrote: KC is famous for steaks, right?

Or just go to the original Gates BBQ at 12th and Brooklyn, also not far from the P&L. Or 2 blocks south of there is the original Arthur Bryants, the most famous of KC 'que joints, but I prefer Gates myself.
Speaking of Craigslist, I just bought a 19" TV from some guy off there for $15

A mile or two.
What, you're not going to rent a car or stay in a hotel? KC needs the surtax placed on unsuspecting visitors who stumble into town. Somebody has to help pay for the Sprint Center.

These days, Canadian money exchanges at only slightly less than par with US. The days of descending on Canada with a bunch of American dollars and plundering the shopping malls and duty free shops are gone for now.smackaholic wrote:we're talking a wallet stuffed with canuck monopoly money. fat ain't gonna get it. needs to be morbidly obese.War Wagon wrote: Bring a fat wallet if you go there.

Yeah, I know. our currency has fallen to 3rd world levels along with the loonie, but, i been running worthless canuck money smack since like the fourth grade and I ain't about to quit now. Besides, since when has there been a fact based requirement for smack running in this morbid clambake. Sure to miss the time I went to Montreal with the wife and kids about 12 years ago. We were actually debating whether or not we had a big enough credit line on our visa card to just buy the whole fukkin' city and declare ourselves king and queen of montreal. I think we were about 20 bucks short. 3 dollar lunches were cool though. I 'spose these days canucks are happy that they can go to the US for the day and buy lunch without having to 2nd mortgage their igloo.BSmack wrote:These days, Canadian money exchanges at only slightly less than par with US. Hmm, yeah a quick Google search shows that to be correct. I thought they had or were going to rebuild. But there is one in Zona Rosa, right on the way to and from the airport.KC Scott wrote: Wags if you didn't know, Rod Anderson (supposedly) torched his downtown Hereford - it's gone and has not been rebuilt to my knowledge.

Re: What's a Canadian to do in KC?
Stay on the Kansas side in Johnson County- Olathe or Overland Park preferably. It's a no brainer. KCMO is an absolute SHITHOLE. Take a cab to Power and Light and dinner if you're not renting a car. Seriously, the Mizzou side is a dump filled with mostly low class citizens. I suppose it's kinda nice north of the city near Liberty or I am told well south of Grandview (Lees Summit) is nice, but I have never really been down there.
Most cities I recommend staying in the city to get the true feel for the city, but not KC. It's really a complete shithole of a city. The barbeque joints are great and there's some good nightlife, but I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to spend a night in KCMO. If you like to play poker or gamble, go over to Harrah's as well. It's a solid casino. If you stay in Olathe or OP, you'll have a 20-25 minute cab ride to any of the places I mentioned.
As for BBQ, stay away from KC Masterpiece. That is NOT KC BBQ. Gates is pretty good. Arthur Bryants is WAY overrated. Oklahoma Joe's is so-so. My favorite is actually a small unknown joint in Mission, KS called RJ's BBQ. They also have excellent pancakes in the morning. That said, everyone seems to have a different view on KC BBQ joints. Some will tell you Gates is the greatest BBQ joint ever, and some will tell you it sucks. Same with basically all of them- except Masterpiece. I highly doubt they do good business with the locals because pretty much everyone that I've ever talked to in KC dislikes it and doesn't recognize it as REAL KC BBQ. They must get most of their business from tourists- especially with its location in Overland Park right off I-435 near a bunch of hotels. Speaking of hotels, there is an Embassy Suites right by there that I would recommend.
The common recommendation when traveling to a city is to stay in the city and avoid the suburbs to get a true feel for the city. Not KC. Trust me on that. Don't listen to what KC resident tells you. They think complete dumps are luxury living- and that's no joke.

Olathe is NOT a burb? Funny cuz I lived there, dipshit.KC Scott wrote:Jon I'm really understanding now why everyone in CFB thinks you a blitherig dumbfuck.
It's beacuse you're a blithering dumbfuck.
Do you think any of the KC people on this board actually live in KC?
Every last one is in a burb.
The only thing you got correct is that KC proper is a dump - the exceptions being Plaza, Halbrook, and at P&L
as for the burbs, you show your idiocy by suggesting anyone stay in Johnson county then pay $50, one way, to go downtown shows you have no clue what you're talking about. Your comparison of the burbs is equally inane, since you've obviously never been to any of them.
Just the fact you call it Overland Park shows you have no idea what you're talking about -
When did I say anyone on here lives in the city? I didn't even suggest that. I said to not listen to someone that does live in the city. That's all.
Yeah, I've never spent time in KC. Well, except for the time that I lived there. Oh, and every other weekend in the summer + a couple of Chiefs games. Yeah, never been there before. Where is it located? Colorado, right?

What the fuck does "just the fact you call it Overland Park shows you have no idea what you're talking about"?? I assume the city of Overland Park changed its name in the last week????????????
I stay in Johnson Count every weekend I'm down there. Personally, I would rent a car if I were him. I don't fly anywhere without renting a car, but that's just me. If he's not renting a car, then I suppose it depends on his budget. Obviously if he can't afford to pay an arm and a leg for a cab ride, he should stay closer. If he's got a few bucks he can afford to spend, then the OBVIOUS choice is Johnson county. It's a no-brainer. In fact, you would have to be a complete fucking moron to stay over in KCMO if you can afford not to.
KCMO is a DUMP. If you can afford to avoid staying there, then don't stay there. Not everyone is poor, asshole.

We're pretty much blowing the bankroll on transportation.
I'd like to eat cheap (without getting botulism) and if the hotel is a ways off, that's the way it's gotta be.

At least one does, though it be the far northern reaches.KC Scott wrote: Do you think any of the KC people on this board actually live in KC?

Halbrook? Would that be Crown Center? There's a lot more nice places than just what you listed, Scott, where you leave out the entire Northland, Westport, Union Station, Liberty Memorial, Truman Sports complex, Nelson art gallery, etc.The only thing you got correct is that KC proper is a dump - the exceptions being Plaza, Halbrook, and at P&L
Sure, every fair sized older industrial burg has it's blighted inner city areas, but not everyone can live in Blue Springs, Liberty, or Lee's Summit.

What is wrong with Olathe? Why the sarcastic comment? Olathe is very nice. I liked it there. Good people down there. A lot more classy than Missourians- as you are proving right now.Why don't you tell me how well you're doing to have lived in luxurious Olathe and make these weekly vacation trips to KC
As for me, don't worry about it. Let's just say that I got a few bucks in the bank, dickhead.

Re: What's a Canadian to do in KC?
Actually, people do come to KC to stay in Kansas. Why? Because people in Kansas are superior to those in Missouri. Higher IQ's, nicer homes, etc..... They have eternal scoreboard on the inbred rejects over on the Missouri side.War Wagon wrote:People don't come to KCMO to stay in Kansas, except dumbfuck Iowans who probably don't even know which state they're in other than one of utter confusion.TheJON wrote:If he's got a few bucks he can afford to spend, then the OBVIOUS choice is Johnson county. It's a no-brainer. In fact, you would have to be a complete fucking moron to stay over in KCMO if you can afford not to.
