If you haven't seen this, then you have missed something worth seeing.

Killing me ovah here.

Because it's not like Luth has a cooler scenic river than that...5 minutes from his house.

Damn, some of you really are deprived of much to look at.

And exploring caves...hmmm....

Not too terribly far from Crater Lake. And if my memory is working correctly (doubtful), the largest fir tree in the country is right near the Caves.

The more I see this thread, the more I think Luth is taking a downgrade by venturing far from home. We're some spoiled-ass-motherfuckers around here.
Those are pretty, dinsy.

I'm sure it's quite beautiful, however...

The pictures on that web site don't really don't do it justice. The Buffalo river slices thru some 1000 foot high limestone bluffs for many miles of river. Being a National river, it's all pretty much a pristine wilderness area as no private develpment is allowed adjacent to the river. Water is so crystal clear that you can look over the side of your canoe and see big ass brown trout cruising around as you quietly float past.

You'd have to experience it for yourself to truly appreciate it.

One of Luth's priorities was someplace nice, peaceful, and away from it all, and it doesn't get any more serene than this. If you're in to camping, a night spent on a gravel bar beside this river is nothing short of a dream.

Posted: Tue May 23, 2006 11:17 pm
by Dinsdale
Not that it's "out-of-the-way," or "serene" -- but since I know which hood Luth is in, this is probably less than a trhree minute drive from his house, assuming no traffic --

Image

Sorry -- if the fish ain't leaving the ocean to come to your river, it's not that cool.

But, I guess my point kinda was, that if you're going to try and impress Luth with your rivers, you're going to have to bring it bigtime.

Dude has shit like this damn-near within walking distance from his house --

Been there a time or two myself...or 100, or 500.

I could hit it with a rock from my aforementioned buddy's house. We're going to have to train his neighbors to come to the understanding that we'll be walking through their yard to get to the river whenever we see fit.

Awwwwwweeeeesome fishing hole.

Not trying to impress so much as just say that the Buffalo is a really sweet place to spend a day or two if you're looking for relaxation.

As for excitement and a pure adrenaline rush as well as breathtaking scenery, I'd recommend the Browns Canyon or Royal Gorge trip on the Arkansas river in Colorado.

Been there, done that, twice, and have the pictures to prove it.

Word of advice: When your guide asks if you want to jump out the raft to experience the river up close and personal like, say "no thanks dude, I'm good".

Damn near drowned my city slicker ass in some ice cold water, I did.

About a 1/2 mile later as I shot down the river gasping for air as every rapid smashed into my shell-shocked face, the raft caught up and I dragged my dumb-ass back in.

Nope, I don't recommend that at all.

I think I want to be in that place. Damn...awesome. So is it easy to get to, is it heavily visited, and are there any cabins nearby? That is a great picture.

Montana is easily winning this gig, outside of the Oregon shit, which I can see on any weekend.

Beautiful.

You can start your search here...

http://www.nps.gov/glac/

I actually haven't been there. My wife has.... :x

I was on the southern border of MT and it was too far of a drive for a weekend, it being on the Canadian border and all. I seriously doubt its as busy there as Yellowstone was, but then again I don't know how many come from north of the border...I can ask my buddy that lives in Billings if you have any MT questions. That fucker is always sending me incredible pics of him and his wife skiing in the MT mountains.

Who wants to see frozen tundra 11 months of the year and call yard? Jesus, people. I want a balance...

I saw Japan and wondered why I always smelled burnt flesh in the morning? hahaha... I was in China and wondered why their sewer system can't handle a ball of charmin. Fuck, softest shit in the world sans a Democrat peenie, and I have to round file it instead of the stinky shitter?

Ever notice how the ideal place that lives in the back of one's noggin is a remote, beautiful, picturesque place, far from cities, pollution, and the madding crowd?

And yet if you want to protect these places, you're a "treehugger."

If you don't want every last bit of wilderness trampled, developed, and Wal-Marted you're a "wacko environmentalist."

If you don't want the overpopulated squalor of China, India, and Mexico imported into every last American open space then you're a "heartless racist xenophobe."

-Fess, on a rant.

Although, I think it costs more to live in Napa than it does to live in Manhatten. Not a cheap place. But, you're not too terribly far from the 5th largest metro area in the country, but far enough away to not have to deal with the horrid traffic, and all of the other "big city" problems.

Very cool place...especially if you like to get your booze on with fine wine. But...you're from the Midwest -- I'd recommend the white zinfandel. I hear Ernest and Julio Iglesias make one that's right up your alley.

Actually, if you take the Atherton Avenue\San Marin Drive. exit and go about 6 miles... you can take a turn near Sears Point instead of heading towards Vallejo.

Yeah, just a bit. I blame the Asians... now that's a fun bunch to be on the road with.

Actually, I was hitting about 110 mph through parts of Nevada... then it dawned on me what would happen if I blew a tire at that speed.

So I took it down to around 85 and 95 mph... I figured that way I would die just a little slower.

What cracks me up in rural Nevada(sup 99.99% of the state) is that they have those solar-powered radar "tell-you-your-speed" sign thingies along the side of the hughway...50 miles from the nearest town, roadsign, trailer, artificial light, etc. Drove through there last year at night, and thought they were a wonderful way to check the accuracy of the speedometer when you crack triple digits. Was driving a 4-banger Mercedes, and the best one I logged was 105...held that speed all night. And it still took all freaking night to get from Vegas to Reno...after running out of gas outside of Fallon. Good times. RACK that old methed-out biker dude for hooking a brother up.

I had no idea it was so expensive to live there. Manhattan is outrageous. I don't think I would actually want to live there, but I would like to visit.

Oh my freaking lord...what have I done to deserve this much laughter.

Uhm...a "cellar" isn't in a "rec room." Oddly enough, it's in the "cellar." Awful fucking strange how that works, eh? Or by "mini-cellar," do you mean it's too small to pack your ample ass into in the event of a tornado?

"Syrah" is a deep, often "chewey" wine, produced in France(Rhone), california, and Eastern Washington. "Shiraz" is fucking garbage that comes from Australia, usually priced around $4 a bottle. People who don't live in trailers with "rec rooms" usually understand the difference.

Trying to sound high-fallutin' while using the name "shiraz" is pretty fucking funny.

But forgive me for my insults...any "man" **coughcough** who drinks riesling (round these parts, winemakers refer to this as one of the "garbage wines," usually planted in less-than-ideal areas, beacuase it tastes like crap whether it ripens correctly or not), and sweet wines must be HARDCORE!!!!

Sounds like your better(?) half and Trampis would get along just fine...especially when not in the presence of the womenfolk. Maybe they could share a bottle of niagara.
