(m) I've never been one to blame the officials for a loss...
...before today.
Example 1: The "faux first down" on the game "winning" drive. Two players caught the ball at the same time. Even IF the offensive player is rewarded the ball in that situation (Lefty?) THEY CAME DOWN SHORT OF THE FIRST DOWN MARKER !!! By a whole fucking yard.
Ref's Response: First Down, Tech.
Example 2: The Tech "player" "caught" the ball in the end zone. Nevermind the fact that he was bobbling the ball the entire time his foot was (maybe?) in the end zone, AND that he continued to bobble it as he ran out of bounds and NEVER caught it. (Watch replays... the ball hits the ground about halfway up the flippin' tunnel...) There was NEVER any possession on the part of the receiver.
Ref's Response: Touchdown, Tech. It took a review to call that TD back. A review. To call back a catch that hit the ground. Yeah. But wait, it gets worse.
Example 3: The final play of the "game." The Tech player's ass hits the ground as he's running towards the end zone. His ass lands on the 1 yard line. With his ass STILL on the ground, he reaches the ball out, laying down by this time, to make the ball cross the goal line. The whistle had already blown and the ref was already running in before the ball ever crossed the plane. OU players were already celebrating and some Tech players were already hanging their heads. Then the Tech "player" stretches the ball across the goal line. The player that was already down on the 1.
Ref's Response: Touchdown, Tech. Upon further review, Touchdown, Tech.
Without a doubt, the biggest horseshit display of "officiating" I've seen since the OU / Texas game in 1984. It was so blatantly obvious that the refs were going to give the game to Tech that we shouldn't have even reviewed it. They tried to give them a TD on a dropped pass, so why not give them a TD when the player only got to the one?
Fuck that shit. Fuck those refs. Fuck Tech. If ANY of them sleep well tonight, there is no justice. I'm not saying that OU played great football today, but they played well enough to win it. I wouldn't be one tiny bit suprised to find out that one of those zebras had money on this fucking game. Not one bit.
OU won this game. Period. Call me Cal / Stanford if you want to, but that game was over. That game was like USC's 2003 championship...
Awarded, not earned.

Refs are just like any other variable. Weather, crowd, injuries, substitutions. OU fucking lost because they could not run all over a mediocre Tech defense and Bomar...well Bomar is still playing QB. All that game did was take the Cotton Bowl away from OU which doesn't mean shit because the Cotton Bowl peeps already have a hard on for Tech. So now you will probably wind up in the Alamo Bowl which is better anyway. Nicer climate and you can actually get a REAL taco without having to order from a dollar menu. Your season was already way below OU standards and expectations so it really don't matter. Besides Mangino already has eduacated the masses that officials are all about Big XII dollar signs. OU did get screwed, but it's nice to see your blood pressure spike a bit.

I'm sick of San Antonio and San Diego and we still haven't played in either Bowl. I go to both enough for the damn in-laws without having a built in visit.
We got jobbed plain and simple.
Now fuck off cause I'm in no mood.

When this play unfolded I was sure he was short.the_ouskull wrote:The 4th and 3 "catch" for a "first down..."
But when I saw the first down sideline marker (that red thing laying at the base of the sticks) it was on the other side of the 23 yard line before the measurement. If you can stand to watch the tape you'll see it. It looked as if the yellow line was off on this one.
However it's usually pretty accurate.

Obviously, the Big 12 doesn't have to say shit about anything. All I'm saying is that it wouldn't surprise me, based on media pressure, if someone from the office didn't come out at some point and admit the refs blew it.

Check with Suncoast he understood.
And I can damn well assure you the Big 12 office could give a shit about local media hacks. Don't look for ESPN or Fox Sports to have OU's back in this situation. Ner a word will spoken in OU's defense outside the OKlahoma borders and the Big 12 office would need to apologize from now till next September to cover all their gaffs to all the teams in this conference.

Sincerely, 5th down ... and kicked ball, in Columbia.
I didn't post that the Big 12 would admit a mistake, only that it wouldn't surprise me, for this particular game, if someone from the officiating crew set a precedent that warranted rectification, for the record. Or has no college official/office ever admitted it was wrong, via the NFL?

You're welcome to call it cheap if you like, but I've readily admitted that, 1) everything since then has been earned like a motherfucker, at the hands of my squad, no less, and 2) they were by far and no question the better team last year. Cheap in your crossed-eyes or not, 2003 was "awarded" to USC, not earned, and the OU game on Saturday was awarded to Tech. There's no question whatsoever about it.

First off Skull, the officials didn't cost OU that game. A poor offensive and defensive showing against a team that lost to OSU last week was the reason.
Didn't see the catch for the first down so no comment there. As for the TD run I saw that live and said damn it is close and they will have to review it. After seeing it reviewed it sure looked damn near impossible to tell if the ball carrier was down or on top of a defender. If he is in fact on top of the defender or even his own player he isn't down. Further the officials had shown they were not afraid to overturn a clearly incorrect call, so had this one been as clear I have no doubt they would have overturned it too.
I sure wanted Tech to lose that game, but the officials aren't the reason they won.

I have been looking around for some photos of the play.
Here is one all over some boards that people are saying shows him clearly not in. What? This pic in fact shows nothing at all.
http://img501.imageshack.us/my.php?imag ... h023bx.jpg
Wait on second thought it does show that the officials are having to deal with to make this call. Look at the HL who is having to adjust his position to see around the WR/DB.
As for the disputed spot on the dual possession of the catch, this pic shows that they are right on the yellow line. The OU player seems to be mostly beyond the line to gain while the Tech player is mostly behind the line to gain and the ball is right in the middle of the two. If both players had possession of the catch then it would seem the officials gave the Tech player the proper progress. It isn't where they are tackled, but rather the furthest point of the ball once possession is gained. No way anyone can say the officials blew this spot by a yard or more.
http://img47.imageshack.us/my.php?image=caught018zm.jpg
Found this one on a Sooners board and it sure seems to show the Tech WR being contacted by the Sooner defender at the back of the endzone. If this is in fact the player who catches the TD pass then the correct call was made. No way to tell if he does in fact step out or if this is in fact the same play.
http://img410.imageshack.us/my.php?image=out010aj.jpg
Finally an image of the play:
http://media.putfile.com/KFOR
This is the best view so far, but again it is not conclusive. It shows the ball carrier falling on the back of a teammates legs and also the defender (#42) wrapping his arms around the ball carriers lower legs. It is unclear if any part of the ball carrier's body touches the ground. He is laying on two people and very well might not be down.

Lefty:
The ball carrier's ass hits the ground at about the 1.5 yard line. I agree it's hard to tell if the ball is across at that time. But let's look at this clip:
Exhibit A
From the Fox angle, we clearly see that the ball does not cross the line until after the carrier's arms "bounce" across the line. In the News 9 clip, we see that the bounce is caused by his ass hitting the ground. No touchdown. But I must concede that the review crew didn't have access to both clips so I'm willing to tolerate this missed call. (Although I love that the TD is called by an official whose view of the play is clearly blocked by a WR, DB, and Lineman. That was so fucking abritrary it makes me sick.)
Frankly, I don't much give a shit about this call because the play never shuold have happened. The spot on the 4th down was putrid, plain and simple. Lefty, you know I love you but take off your zebra-colored glasses and watch this clip.
Exhibit B
Your explanation of this call would make sense if there had not been a battle for posession of the ball. The receiver did not have posession untill he wrestled the ball away on the ground...a full yard short of the first down marker. Game over. Look at that jackass running in to signal "First Down!". He was more excited than the Tech student section. Hey dickwad, it's pretty close. Think you might want to measure?
Look, bad calls are part of football. But three bad calls on the final, game-winning drive are inexcusable. I'm not asking for an overturn, I'm just asking for justice. But that crew will be right back out there next week with no punishment for robbing a young team from it's season-defining victory.
Fuck, fuck, fuck...

Good point, I withdraw that comment.
Here's a whole slew of questionable calls from the game.
Screw Jobs
[Oliver Stone] By the way, one of the refs does live in Lubbock. Just sayin'. [/Oliver Stone]

OK, how about the fact that all of this means nothing, even Stoops gets that:

Poor defensive showing, what the fuck?Left Seater wrote:First off Skull, the officials didn't cost OU that game.
We held the most prolific offense in the country to 16 points on their home field.
I understand the want/need to defend your collegues lefty but pull your head out of your ass for a moment.

Well that's the point. Yes there were some questionable calls, maybe even wrong calls, but move on.
There is nothing posting a refs address or looking at different pics is going to do or prove. Remember who has the best view of the game, not you, not me, not the announcers and not the coaches.
At least it wasn't the Big12 championship or NC game.

Here's the deal... OU played well enough, when it mattered, to win that game. They played very poorly in the first three quarters offensively, but the D played well enough, as SunCoast said, to hold Tech to 16 points on their home field, senior day, etc... Tech. The fourth quarter, Tech did NOT play well enough to win, and OU did, and, in my opinion, DID win that game. The officiating cost us that game. There were so many blown calls, which ARE a part of the game, but they should be the salt of the game, not the food. The deal was sealed for me when they reviewed the dual-catch and gave them a 1st down anyway. At that point, I knew that Tech was going to come away with the 'W.' However, I refuse to say that they won, because they didn't. That game was awarded to them. Period.

What's wrong with having a win awarded to you.
