Mister Twister.....Iowa/ISU tonight

Post by TheJON »

ISU 65
Iowa 55

My homer side wants to go with the Hawks in this, but without Horner, I can't see how we win in Ames. I would say Iowa has about a 5% chance of winning this. The only way we win is if Haluska goes nuts. And speaking of Haluska, let's just hope the Clone fans keep it clean tonight. Hopefully nothing will be thrown at him. Keeping the vulgarities to a minimum would also be nice.

Aww fuck it, screw being objective. Iowa by 20! Fuck ISU....GO HAWKS!!!!!

Yeah the peeps can be ugly at Hilton, but the Hawks Nest can be as bad.....ooops, no one shows up at the Hawks Nest, my bad.

Freeman better bring his defense because Stinson and Blaylock makes guards their bitch on a continous basis.

Brunner will do his thing, get about 15 pts and 10 rebounds and keep Iowa close.

Depends on which Clone team shows up. The one that lost to Fresno and Iona and the Hawks win by 10. The one that played the other night at Drake and the Hawks could lose by 20.

With Horner, I thought the Hawks had a more than decent chance of winning in Hilton. Without him it's going to be tough. This could be the last real good shot the Hawks have at beat ISU for some time to come.

Clones by double digits.

I agree with most of that. I'm not sure this is our last chance for a while. I still need to find out if Wayne can coach. No doubt he can recruit. But can he coach? And if Stinson and/or Blalock go pro after this year, ISU could be in trouble next year. Not saying they will, but those would be HUGE losses if they do.

But I agree, I think this is a double digit win for ISU. If Iowa can somehow find a way to get this into a halfcourt game, I like our chances. Unfortunately, I'm not too confident we can find a way to do that.

Also, realistically, what do you think I'd pay for a ticket from a scalper for the game? Think I could get a pair for $50 a piece?

His first year, he guides a team realing from defections, contraversy and new players to the NIT semi finals and 22 wins. The next year he takes an 8-8 team with no bench to the second round of the NCAA tourney along the way beating several ranked teams at home and on the road. The guy can coach....what we don't know....is can he coach consistently.

I think a lot of blame for the early season let downs so far can be placed on revolving door he's had at center and forward. We've had some decent play at those position, but it seems like we've had to work a new guy in every year....and they've had little help off the bench at this position. It looks like Morgan may have finally addressed this problem as there is raw talent on the floor and a few servicable guys to help off the bench. If Stinson and Blalock stay in school ( which I can't imagine they wouldn't unless ISU goes deep in the tourney this year), next year could be outstanding.

The one area I must commend Morgan on above Eustachy and Floyd...recruiting. Without a doubt, Morgan has been able to pull a consistently higher quality basketball player to ISU then either of the two former coaches. Now, if only he had the personality of Johnny Orr.....

Thus begins the calls for Alford's head from the Jihadic wing of the Hawkeye nation.

Clearly, losing Horner hurt them, but did it cost them the game? Hard saying but it probably wouldn't have been a double digit loss. If the Cyclones keep improving and can maintain the intensity they've had the last two games, they could be scary good by tourney time.

It's a Cyclone state this year baby!

Maybe Alford can't win with great talent?

He did a hell of a better job while at SMS(msu now) His teams over achieved(sweet 16 team with SMS).

four-year (1996-99) record of 78-48 at Southwest Missouri State. The Bears, in 1999, defeated Wisconsin and Tennessee to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament before losing to top-ranked Duke in the regional semifinals. Alford's best record at Southwest Missouri State came in 1997 when the Bears were 24-9 (second in the MVC) and advanced to the National Invitation Tournament.

Alford led the Bears to a 16-12 mark in his first season at the Division I level in 1995-96. In 1997-98 Southwest overcame a slow start by winning 12 of its final 18 games, posting a final record of 16-16 while advancing to the title game of the MVC post-season tournament for the second straight season

Yes it is a Cyclone State this year. And props on that. Who knows how much having Horner would have helped? Injuries happen. Backups need to step up and make plays. They didn't. Not having Horner in the lineup is still not an excuse for not being able to run a fucking 3 on 1 fast break. Anyone can do that. Missing layups and not being able to catch the ball is also not an excuse for playing without Horner.

Alford can't develop players for shit. We run a motion offense and everyone just stands around. We can't dribble, we can't pass, we can't shoot. I'm surprised these guys can even put their uniforms on correctly.

I don't even want to bother reading the message boards for a while. The Jihads get on my nerves. Today would be a perfect day for Deace to do another one of his "Confessions of the Jihadic Wing."

Here's to another 6-10 Big-10 season!!!
