Nothing has jumped out at me the last few times to the store. Not going in with anything special in mind. Hit me with your ideas.

Pretty much anything. But I'm not that big into Sci-Fi, Romance, or Mystery. Like History stuff, looking for a good Templars book, always looking for a good new fiction author. Not opposed to biographys or non-fiction if they are very interesting. Honestly, just looking for anything.

I have my eye on the Cash biography.

Well there are definitely some things you should avoid. This article is a few weeks old, but worth reading:

From the Guardian

I'm not sure if's possible to write fiction that could be destined as a classic and include graphic sex scenes, but some of these are truly horrible. Two that stand out are:
And he came hard in her mouth and his dick jumped around and rattled on her teeth .... Like Zorro.

The First Casualty by Ben Elton (Bantam Press)
She could not answer. It is the one drawback of fellatio ....
At one point his lover backed away to inspect the unaltered gush of it, like a plumber saying to a customer, "Don't blame me. This water supply will stop when the dam's empty."

Winkler by Giles Coren (Jonathan Cape)
I'm just guessing the staff of the Observer haven't read any of Scooter Libbys books.

American Psycho is a great book. Or, use it to buy the ESPN College Football Encyclopedia.(assuming you dont already have it.)

Totally forgot about that. Big time Cabin Boy and Letterman era Chris Elliot fan here. Trip to the library is in order.

Charlie Huston's books as well. He was recommended to me by my old man. Started reading Caught Stealing the other day. Entertaing book- not terribly challenging reads- but his style is very good and the characters are very different.

Pick up Caught Stealing and Six Bad Things. He just released another- but haven't seen it around yet.

Got it, but it's about 3rd or 4th on the list right now (AP). I like Brett's work, so I'm interested in this book. Not really interested in the Encyclopedia.

I picked up the Cash book and a book by Tom Perrota. Wishbones. I got another card, so I'm going back tonight.

a friend of mine i consider snobby enough to really pay attention to his suggestions about things...since there are few of them....really liked McCarthy's Blood Meridian.

Blood Meridian is great - gloriously bloody, with that quasi-Revelations tone that we all love. Suttree is even more brutal, at times...a searing exploration of human depravity with no sugar-coated conclusions. Also, McCarthy's use of obscure vocabulary makes for very interesting reading.
