List your movie flops for the summer of '06

Post by Bobby42 »

Superman Returns: Supes returns after being gone for awhile. Don't know why. Also what happened to the dude's flight suit? Just don't dig the small "S" and how could anyone replace Christopher Reeve? This is borderline but I think this will be the Star Wars III of 2006.

The Omen: If there was one film that shouldn't be remade it's this one. The original 1976 flick starring Geogory Peck, Lee remick and David Warner was a masterpiece and among Richard Donner's best work. The remake comes out on 6/6/06, which is not a good reason to mess with the original. Besides, turn on the TV. The real anti-christ is currently residing at 1600.

World Trade Center: Directed by Oliver Stone. 'nuff said.

Miami VIce: Include this on your list of Hollywood original ideas. Directed by Michael Mann and starring Colin Farrell and Jamie Fox. What have you done for us lately?

There's my four and there could be more out there. Thank God you won't see a Star Wars flick this summer, but wait two years...Star Trek is coming back in '08.

He's an alien, for Christ sake. His Kryptonian biological makeup is enhanced by earth's yellow sun. If Lois gets a tan the kid could kick right through her stomach. Only someone like Wonder Woman has a strong enough uterus to carry his kid. The only way he could bang regular chicks is with a kryptonite condom. But that would kill him.

Call me crazy but I don't quite think he was up to reprising his role this time around.

No shit. Dude came on scene in 1978's Superman and there was nothing like it. Tagline: "You will believe a man can fly" and the flying scenes with Christopher Reeves was good shit. Puff. Remember John William's theme music? They're bringing that back for the remake.

Every horror movie will be remade an infinite number of times. It's all about the benjies. Texas Chainsaw, Dawn of the Dead, Hills Have Eyes, The Fog, Endless Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street and Jason sequels, etc. Production companies aren't about taking risks like they used to, they're all about the sure, secure buck. Japanese horror seems to have taken over here.

You call 850 million at the box office a "flop"?

You're a fucking idiot.
That's $848,797,674 worldwide for the entire year. It made $379,144,487 during the summer '05 movie season. You're right: It led the summer and the year in movie grosses. The movie was a no show at the Academy Awards and received more than mixed reviews. People went to see this movie because it was the last of the series. But, it was a disappointment. No one would consider it as being a hallmark movie of the summer of 2005.

Meanwhile, this summer's "United93" won't receive big box office. But, so far everyone's talking about it...and we'll see where it goes from here.
People will be disappointed with "Superman Returns" just as they were disappointed with Star Wars III.
