As I said in my several posts about the topic on Monday, this whole deal isn't and shouldn't be a race deal. It's an immigrant deal. "Blacks" or African Americans, for the most part by and large, are legal US citizens. It is our responsibility as a nation to expend our resources to address whatever plight it is they face.
Try not to make this an issue about race.

There are many people in the world who are not citizens of the United States who have some kind of plight they may face. It's not America's job to ease the plight of every person in the world. We have enough people who belong here that need help.Roofer wrote:It is our responsibility as a nation to expend our resources to address whatever plight it is they face.

No, it is not our responsibility. Why do we have to let everyone in? This crap that what makes American great is a melting pot of people is total bullshit. That might have been true 100 years ago when people came over to Ellis Island or migrated here and worked their asses off. Also, those people were proud to call themselves Americans and stressed good values.
Psst...he was talking about African-Americans, not illegal immigrants. Read it again:

That's why I generalized as "whatever plight". The point is, we should not be asking lame questions like "what would happen if blacks didn't work" as a relative topic to the immigrant issue that gave us our country back for one day this past Monday. Let's try to focus on the issue, which a couple of you have touched on correctly. We should not just accept mass migration of foreigners into our country unless they do so legally by going through the proper channels.Cicero wrote:Even worse. What plight? We ended slavery, passed the Civil Rights Act, gave them Affirmative Action, bought their rap CDs and made their sports figures into icons.
mvscal wrote:Like fuck it is. Their "plight" is a personal problem.Roofer wrote:It is our responsibility as a nation to expend our resources to address whatever plight it is they face.
Personal. Cultural. Whatever the case may be, as citizens of our country, it is our responsibility to use our resources in a manner so as to address the issue. We're not arguing the wrong or right use of resources here. The point is, if we have a collection (or even on an individual level) of US citizens that are having socioeconomic issues, expending our resources to address that is more justified than spending it on illegal immigrants.
I guess the answer to that question is, depends on how long we continue to misappropriate resources. Is there a cookie cutter, 1 answer fits all type of response to the issues particular groups face? Doubtful. Whatever the case may be, as I mentioned earlier, this isn't about whether resources are allocated wrongly or not, it's about what is more justified....allocating resources to our own legal citizens or to those that are here illegally.Sudden Sam wrote:Agreed.Roofer wrote:mvscal wrote: Like fuck it is. However, for how long do we continue this expenditure of resources to uplift a particular group?

Well Cicero, some would see this as their plight.Cicero wrote:Affirmative Action, bought their rap CDs and made their sports figures into icons.
Teaching the wrong values to someone makes them into who they are. "If I dont become a huge rap or sport star, the man owes me something"

Could not that same truth be applied to 'as citizens of this earth, it is our responsibility to use our resources in a manner so as to address the issues which face mankind?Roofer Wrote:

Why limit it to borders, when many of the worlds' problems eventually end up effecting you, terrorism being a good example.
Instead of going through the motions to attack the little problems, wouldn't it better to go after the cause which created the problems in the first place?
All this talk about the million$ you suspect the illegals are costing you and how whichever party gets on board the anti-mexican wagon will win your next election, yet not one freakin word about the billions the oil corps are stealing or the real harm their greed is bringing down upon you, leads me to wonder if the majority of you are simply to ignorant to ever free yourselves from your real bondage.
For your sakes, I hope you wake up before it is to late.
Am I wrong...God, I hope so.

Charity starts at home (or one should clean their own backyard first.....yada yada yada......any of those cliches fit here). Also, while we should do what we can to support human rights throughout the world, we shouldn't do so at the expense of American rights. Also, there are limits to what lengths we should go to to "aid" the citizens of the world. Financial and educational support is one thing, but opening up the borders to let any Tom, Dick or Harry freely overpopulate our country is another. By your line of reasoning, you don't throw a few bits to the homeless guy panhandling on the freeway offramp, you instead open your car door and bring the guy home to the family. Not quite the reality of the situation, is it?
As far as your comments regarding the fuel crisis and whatnot, just because someone takes a stand against illegal immigration issues doesn't mean they don't have opinions on other problems. Are you saying one accepts the unreasonable rise in oil and gas prices simply because you haven't happened across a post of theirs speaking out on the issue? That's an awkward line of thinking, don't you think.

Roofer; all i'm suggesting is that most folk are to dumb to understand who their real enemy is, which is why they will continue to be the rich man's bitch until the day that they die.
The reality of the illegals issue is but a drop in the bucket when it comes to what drags your countrymen down, yet blind fools would elect anyone for going after those lesser easy picking's while ignoring the bigger problem.
And; a stitch in time saves nine.
A trillion dollar war hasn't made a dent in terrorism, but an honest look at what cases terrorism to exist with a concerted effort to make meaningful changes towards eliminating the reasons for it's existence, could make the world of difference, literally.

How so? I'm not saying it will ever end but w sure as hell made more than a dent in the business of terror and those who fund it. I gaurantee you the Israelis have Plan B on "Ready Alert" right now if Iran steps.tough love wrote: A trillion dollar war hasn't made a dent in terrorism,

Eliminating Jews would not stop Islamic terrorism. So the better question to TL is how does he propose we stop Islamic fanaticism...Atomic Punk wrote:How so? If anything; to date it has only managed to have exasperated a very real problem.
And who could blame them, but how on earth is that going to put a stop to world terrorism?I gaurantee you the Israelis have Plan B on "Ready Alert" right now if Iran steps.

The idleness of poverty is what supplies sick n evil Islamafacists with their manpower.
Eliminate world poverty, and terrorism will begin to melt and eventually river away.
Continue to do what we do, and we just keep feeding the beast.
Which brings us back to your beef with the hungry Mex's, and what convenient targets they make to help keep 'We The People' blind to the real enemies amoung you who would eat you kids for a buck.
Bush said something about; 'America needs to be careful not to lose it's soul over the Mexican issue'....After gagging over hearing a de$pot like Bu$h Corp nerve out such a truthful statement, I could not help but wonder if it's not already to late...Hope not, but.
