Pick a coach

If your coach died, which current NFL head coach would you most enjoy seeing take over the reigns .... ?

There are a few head guys I respect as football men, but if I had to narrow it down to ONE, I suppose it'd be pretty hard not to choose B. Belichik.

I think most of y'all would have the same opinion.

For the sake of making it more interesting I'm going to eliminate him from my thought process.

That being the case, it comes down to Jeff Fisher and Bill Parcells for me.

I'll chose Fisher.

His teams have been pretty awful the past two years, but after going 56-24 over a 5 yr period, a down time was to be expected.

Fisher has held the Titan yob for 12 seasons, and has been very successful, despite working for one of THE biggest buffoon owners in pro sports, in Jabba Adams.

Fisher's teams play smart, tough, 'old school' ball.

I've always really liked him as a head coach.

Parcell's track record speaks for itself, but I see him right now as being slightly past his prime as a head coach.

Doesn't mean he can't still get it done, it just means that I think he was even better 10-or-so years ago.

I wouldn't object if Art died and either Fisher or Parcells showed up. haha

For what it's worth, I would NOT want Tony Dungy coaching Oakland ...... EVER.

Pussy, he is.

What coach would you choose .... ?

I know its only been a year but I really like Nick Saban. I think he has a lot of similar qualities as Jimmy Johnson. I wouldn't mind seeing him walk the sidelines of Texas Stadium every Sunday.

Saban's stock is high right now.

I'd like to see more of him before I definitely give him high props.

Specifically, how he handles adversity.

Wouldn't you call taking a 4-12 team that started the season off at 3-7 with a shit quarterback and making them the hottest NFL team at seasons end, handling adversity?

Hey, he did a nice job last year.
No two ways about it.
Got the season turned around, and did it with a mediocre NFL talent, Gus Frerotte, at QB.
I'd just like to see a longer track record before elevating Saban above some other more established NFL coaches.

If I wanted to pick at Saban I would note that Miami was in the top 10 in defense for 7 straight years (going back to the last 2 yrs under J. Johnson), but dropped down to just 18th in the league last year under Saban.

Miami won it's last 6 games last year, but 4 of those wins were against Oakland, Buffalo (1pt win), NY Jets (4pt win), and Tennessee.

Not murderer's row.

Let's see what he does this year.

Well, I like Fisher as my head coach as it is, but if he died, I think I'd take Gruden.

As a longshot, I'd try to steal Bob Stoops from college first, though.

If anyone could ever wrangle him away from OU. I just don't see it happening. He's going to get paid out his ass for many years and always be near the top of the pack. He won't have many, if any, sub .500 seasons at OU.

If we're talking about current NFL coaches, I'd have to say the guy would be Gruden. He's got the Pittsburgh attitude down cold, he's a motivator and he's been a winner with two different teams.

That kind of security would be tough to toss away.

Realizing that there is a substantial list of 'hot' college coaches who have jumped to the NFL, only to flame out, has to make the security of his OU gig even more appealing.

On the other hand, Stoops, like ALL great coaches has a healthy ego, so the idea to jump to the highest level (NFL) and prove himself has to gnaw at him.

without a doubt, Belichick.....

guy does more with less than any other coach I've seen....stresses the concept of "team" rather than the individual, a characteristic that is sadly lacking in the NFL.......

I just think the security will be enough for him. Look at Spurrier. Great college coach with a great gig at Florida. When he came back to South Carolina, he did some good, but he's never going to take that team to the level he could have with Florida.

Stoops has all the Texas and Oklahoma talent he wants and then some. Too much parity in the NFL to sustain a long career. Cower and Fisher's tenure is amazing to me.

Who knows...you're right about his ego. I don't think it will ever get the best of him.

Yeah, he's about due to restock on paper clips and Post-Its, but rack you nonetheless. Plus, on the bright side, you wouldn't have to lose to him anymore.

If one of those voodoo dolls actually worked and The Rat dropped dead and Belichick were off the board, I'd like to see Marvin Lewis or Lovie Smith come to town followed closely by Bill Cowher. Everything I've seen from either of them has been positive and they're both hard-nosed, defense-oriented coaches. Cowher has the passion that Vermiel had for his team without all the vagina.
