Credit to m2 for this find.
I'd be so fucking embarrassed if A&M did shit like this.
Seriously, if there was ever a time for someone to smack their own, DuckFan needs to be smacking this shit.

God I can't wait until the season starts. This forum has had it's share of awful threads started in the last month or so....
That's no knock on you Frisco...just gimme the fucking season already!!!!
PS Gameplan ordered. Should I pencil you in for the A&M/OU game?

I ordered Gameplan as well. Your house or mine is fine, but I'm definitely in on it. The beer will flow like wine that day.
Is ther ea Gameplan schedule out?

Not that I have seen. I was first able to order it last night...
The plan also changes throughout the season as teams become more important/less important.

maybe that's just a west coast thing i do not understand. We don't have billboard ads like these for our teams. I have not seen them in Texas and I have not seen them here in Big 10 country.

By the way, M2ool has no room to talk, when it comes to Team Advertising.

Frisco,
You're pretty much dead on. Most of the schools out here have to market their team to sell tickets. If ASU, for example, wins its first four or five games, more people will start showing up on Saturdays. If not, the place is fucking dead. The bandwagon nature of (most) west coasters is pathetic. Naturally, in places like Austin or Happy Valley, billboards are not necessary.

I just can't fathom that when it comes to CFB.
Of course, A&M basketball started to sell out this year. When I was in school, I went to all the games and we'd be lucky to have 2000 people at the game. We built Reed Arena, probably the best basketball facility in the XII and we still couldn't get more than 5000 to a game. A little success and A&M has 13,000 filling up Reed now.
Like I said though, I just don't understand it when it comes to football.

by SoCalTrjn
A lot of it has to do with a lot of west coast residents not being native to where they live and still holding on to allegiances to the teams they grew up cheering for.
There are 6 million people from New York living in Los Angeles, you wont see 6 million people from a west coast city move to an east coast city. You also dont seem to see people (other than M2) on the west coast passionately follow a school they did not go to even with most colleges out here not even having football teams.

The beer will flow like wine that day.
Sounds good...but how does that work? Does it mean you drink it out of wine glasses, twirl it in the glass, and pile your nose into the bell of the glass for a sniff?

Still though, I love football and even though my team doesn't play near me, I still go to games. I go to a lot of the IU games in Bloomington, usually 4 or 5 of them. And it is a 1.5 hour drive for me and THEY SUCK, but I just love CFB and will watch whoever plays.
I'm also a huge MLB fan. I live 3 hours from St. Louis and 2.5 hours from Cincy but I still make 10-12 games a year and they are both divisional rivals to my team, the Stros. I'd make MANY more if I lived closer.
And of course, I make about 6-7 Indy Colts games too, a 2.5 hour drive, a division rival to my Titans.
I'm just a fan of sprots in general. I don't need to see a billboard to enjoy watching these teams even though I'm not a fan of them.

Wrong...I'm sure those gangster fans that infiltrate the moseleum on Saturday all graduated from $C, along with all the tools with their brand new hats, shirts, jersey's, sweatshirts etc......
All schools have fans who didn't attend.

In Oklahoma and Texas, you don't have to advertise football. Either you know, and you matter, or you don't know and you're new.

Some of it has to do with football having to compete with both of these, for weekend time, on the West coast.
Now,
I could give a shit about the Beach, skiing, or hiking or camping or kayaking or any of that shit, when it's football season, but a lot of people on the West Coast like that stuff, or moved here for that and like to get out on the weekends. And in most places, its less than 2 hours to both the Beach and the Mountains.

i hear this argument/excuse all the time in Colorado. I'd be willing to bet that just as many people in Oklahoma hunt or fish on the weekends as people in the glory states go to the mountains (and, seriously, who goes to the beach in November?). people sit on their ass and watch TV on the weekends EVERYWHERE....even if it's not CFB.

How would you come to this conclusion???
If I know there's waves in the morning the day before... I wake up at 4:30 am and drive out. :eyerolls:
If you get out early... before the wind picks up, then the waves don't get blown out and it's still glassy/ideal.
I'm usually home by 9 or 10 am.

BTW, as toothless and relentlessly hooked on meth as I am....i still managed to go to a better school than the one you claim to have gone to. somehow.

Private universities will always do better under the USN&WR rankings. There's no way we can compete in terms of faculty/student ratio with private universities.
Also, the reputation of USN&WR's rankings has been in decline for decades now. Most councilors encourage applicants to disregard their rankings, as they criteria they use seems to change annually, based on the pressure they get from the institutions looking to boost their rank. It's becoming more of a reflection of the politics of some universities than a good yardstick for quality education.
USN&WR's bias toward the private schools and it's weight of "intangibles" over academics also calls into question the validity of their rankings.
It's very likely USC (and Cal, for that matter) is much better than a lot of the schools ranked above it based on what most applicants want to get out of their college experience. Instead, USN&WR pretty much ranks them according to which school administrations and alumni are doing the best job of campaigning for their school.
Treat USN&WR for what it is - a personality contest that tells us very little about the relative academic success of any of the listed institutions.

Believe the Heupel wrote:I thought USC was a private school.
The Top 100 Global Universities
Berkeley is #5 in the world (The London Higher Education Survey had us ranked similarly). USC is #54. I think most people around the world would find that a fair ranking.
And this isn't to demean USC. USC is a very solid school. However, Berkeley (and Stanford) remain among the world's very elite universities, and are always up there with Oxford and Cambridge in any global rankings.

m2,
Your team is actually ranked. They're not a bad squad.
Why do you still feel compelled to bait everyone into academic smack? Your guys are playing in Knoxville soon. Isn't there enough Cal/Football related stuff to be excited about, that you don't need to tool up every thread with academic "smack?"
