Question for Oregon Duck fans
If I am not mistaken, I believe you had 6 guys get to the NFL from the 2005 team (4 drafted, 2 UFA).
I know that there will be many more from the 2006 team and beyond (like the RB J. Stewart).
My question is this: How many players that were on the 2005 team will ultimately get to the NFL? This includes Juniors & underclassmen who you think will make it eventually.
I need someone with a better insight in UO's program than my own to answer this question. I am in a debate about 'What is this best team Montana has ever played?' My opinion is that '05 Oregon is far and away the best team we ever played. Some are pimping '96 Marshall (w/Randy Moss) as the best ever (which I find absurd). Part of my argument is who sent more players to the NFL - Marshall ultimately sent 15 I think. Oregon I am sure will wind up sending more, but it is purely speculation at this point.
Much appreciated.

btw...list of Ducks that have played in the NFL with the year they drafted. Anyone with 2005 or after is part of your argument.

I haven't been around this board long enough to be familiar with the reference. I'm guessing it's derogatory. I'd point out the obvious difference:
That person is asking about those who HAVE made it in the pros. That question belies either ignorance or laziness as the information is known to those who follow sports or is readily available to anyone willing to use Google. I am asking someone with better knowledge of UO's program to speculate on who they think will EVENTAULLY make it to the NFL.
And this thread was never off the top level between when I posted it and when you thrice replied, so I don't get the Bueller reference either.
In addition, I am aware of the players from the 2005 team that were drafted or picked up as UFA...it was the first line in my post. I appreciate your attempts at the subsequent link, but there was a reason I addressed this post to Duck fans.

MuchoBears,
Don't get your panties in a wad. The Bueler and pic are more for those who were around back whenthat shit happened. They'll get a chuckle as did I.
Anyhow, instead of simply doing a driveby, I attempted to help out. It wasn't until after I posted the link that I realized the site wasn't updated.
And you are correct, 2005 Oregon was better than a Randy Moss Marshall team.

Totally my bad - don't know why it came out like that.
I did appreciate the link - not your fault the site isn't updated.

Re: Question for Oregon Duck fans
Well, the guys that are there now and, for certain, on NFL teams are:GrizBearStare wrote:

Kellen Clemens, Haloti Ngata and Demetrius Williams. Justin Phinissee was also drafted, but I haven't heard anything lately about his chances to make a roster.
Looks like Whitehead probably is going to cling onto a spot with the Bengels and Tim Day is probably going to be cut by the Bears.
Out of the guys on our team right now, it's always a crap shoot, of course.
Locks/Near Locks - Jonathon Stewart, James Finley, Blair Phillips,
Probably will get a chance - Dante Rosario, Cameron Colvin, Jerimiah Johnson, Dennis Dixon, Enoka Lucas, Jordan Kent, J.D. Nelson, Patrick Chung, Jaison Williams, Matt Toeania, Brady Leaf
There are some other young guys with talent and potential, but will have to progress a lot from last year to their senior years before I'd say they might have a chance.
Re: Question for Oregon Duck fans
Crapshoot question, right there. Kind of an "in-bewtween" year to go too far out on a limb with.
At this point, even after a triple-backup year, barring major injury, go ahead and pencil Jonathan Stewart in as a lead-pipe-lock first rounder.Freaking amazing game. The local radio hacks say he looks like he gained speed and weight...it's not human.
Donte Rosario is a Beaverton homie, so it's a given.
James Finley, maybe.
With all due respect to JayDuck(who becomes my favorite poster very shortly here), Colvin looks like a bum so far. We'll see. Local hacks seem to think the Duck's success rests on his shoulders.
Jordan Kent? I dunno, his Dad is kind of a loser, so...
(sidebar -- I couldn't have been more impressed with Ernie Kent's early days at the helm, and thought the Blazers should give him consideration for head coach, but now, all the local talent(sup Kevin Love, et al), cite Kent as their reason for leaving the state...RED FLAG)
If Patrick Chung plays subsequent seasons like the last one, then hell yeah.
If Dennis Dixon does that thing he do, then maybe. More of a kinda-sorta-almost option/CFB scrambler type, which doesn't always pan out to NFL scouts.
Plus, you know somebody is going to step up and fill some shoes, so who knows?

Its been 15 years since we've had a starting QB that didn't get a chance at the NFL. Hell, Fife took a few snaps on Monday Night football a couple days ago.
Totally disagree with you about Colvin. He was just the slot reciever last year, and 3rd option. The QBs didn't call his number very often, but he did everything that was asked of him and showed tremendous breakaway speed. In fact, we very well might have lost 3 other games last year if not for Colvin TDs. 1 against Fresno, split the defenders and sparked the 2nd quarter comeback. 2 at WSU, took the reverse and, once again split defenders to the house. And three, on the first series at Arizona, caught a ball in traffic and exploded 70 yards to the endzone. All 3 of those games were won by a TD or less and nobody else on the team had the kind of speed to make those plays (besides Jordan, who wasn't a football player yet).
Jordan will get a chance, too, not for being a great football player but simply because he will blow everyone numbers out of the water at the combine.
Re: Question for Oregon Duck fans
And the best of the bunch declined a pro football career for "religious reasons," or some crap like that.JayDuck wrote: Its been 15 years since we've had a starting QB that didn't get a chance at the NFL.

I thought we didn't speak the name of Barney Fife anymore?
Nice special teams play, Fifer...it's not like YOU and YOU ALONE cost Orygun the national championship or anything.
And I hope I totally disagree with me, too. I dunno...he just seems...uninspired...I dunno. But, hopefully, he steps in to fill the bigazz shoes, and does it well. I have faith. U of O has never been hurting for breakaway recievers in recent memory, either.Totally disagree with you about Colvin.
If he doesn't piss them off by being like his dad, apparently. To hear the radio hacks tell it, they make it sound like every wayward recruit thinks Ernie is Satan or something. Lot of people want his head on a platter lately. Letting Love (and if Singler doesn't even make mention of Oregon, at least to humor the locals, I think he might be gone, even though Singler is probably going to head to UCLA to play with Love. Too bad, since those two together might make for a Final 4 berth by themselves).Jordan will get a chance, too, not for being a great football player but simply because he will blow everyone numbers out of the water at the combine.
I think Donte is going to have a monster year...just a hunch. Smart, smart player, and tough, too.

Re: Question for Oregon Duck fans
Actually Jay, I never thought I'd say this . . . but you're not giving Oregon ENOUGH credit. Barring injury it's been over 20 years since Oregon had an opening day #`1 that didn't have an opportunity. (Ironically, the guy with the least opportunity was Danny O'Neil, who had just set what was then the Rose Bowl record for complettions (I think). He was offered what was then the highest Arena cotract of all time which he accpeted an then retired before playing a game to pursue his ministry, which apparently consisted of interrupting fraternity dinners on Monday nights.)JayDuck wrote:Dinsdale wrote:

Oregon's non-injury starters over the years:
1984-86: Chris Miller. Made a pro bowl or two, I can't remember (neither can he.)
87-90: Bill Musgrave. IMHO UO program's most important player ever. Backup for niners and Broncos
91-94: O'Neil. See above. Good enough to at least make an NFL roster but decided to play for Jesus instead.
95-96: Graziani (Backup for Falcons in Super Bowl)
97-98: Akili Smith (Insert joke) (in 97 he shared time with Jason Maas who has established a very good CFL career.)
99-01: Joe College
02-04: Fife and Celmmens
05: Clemmens
06-: Agree that both Bixon and Leaf should get a chance. Things go Dixon's way and he'll be a 1st rounder.

That's not funny at all.
