How the hell is Malcom Kelly going to be a household name with no one to throw to him?

It wasn't so bad if they got rid of the name Herbie and changed it to Homer. Of course the whole looks good in Uniform put it over the top in the ghey catagory. Maybe he needs a biggest penis catagory to really capture the ghey audience. Hell it might even bring trix out of hiding.

BTW he is a dumbass if he thinks there are 4 safeties better than Mike Grif.

10. Oklahoma -- Even though the Sooners are coming off a down year, Norman has been a consistent stop for GameDay. Oklahoma has a highly supportive fan base. And there is nothing like a dinner at Pearl's the night before a big game

uh...Pearls hasnt been in Norman for what...3 yrs now?

My thoughts exactly...that's the kind of hard-hitting analysis we should expect from ESPN.

Surprised he didn't mention how great the Bonfire is before the A&M/t.u. game when talking about the A&M students.

Not only that, if Pearl's was the best he can do in Norman/OKC then he's getting some mediocre advice or hanging out with hoopleheads. sounds to me like he was tossing a bone to suggest local "insider" flava. Indian Hills steakhouse just north of Norman used to be the spot for visiting sports luminaries inna day. it's also the site of the original "friendly wager" that turned into the CFA Sherman Anti-trust suit against the NCAA for negotiating TV rights....for which all CFB fans should take a moment of silence before watching 14 hours of football this Saturday. though, i've heard Indian Hills has gone downhill.....

by comparison, the longtime Omaha rag super homer, Tom Shatel comes correct by tossing a nod to Norman's venerable Denco's (RIP) in his "30 years..." reflections. Also, one notes not a single reference to the Barry Switzer coached Sooners.....though , indirectly he mentions the 78 Missouri-NU game. hehehe.

edit: sorry, i forgot the Shatel link:

Exactly.

I like Herbstreit as an analyst -- he isn't nearly as annoying as Cuntsberger and some of the other idiots on TV -- but this kind of ignorant stuff makes him ...errr, his "researchers" look foolish.

I knew Denco's wasn't around anymore, but Pearl's?

Is Classic 50s still open or did Sonic manage to drive them out of business yet?

Next you'll be telling me that Mr. Bill's and O'Connell's are out of business.

Heck, I remember being annoyed when Rome closed. Some of my best hazy memories from freshman year were from the Fugazi and Echo and the Bunnymen shows at Rome.

Edit: I never did make it to the Indian Hills Steakhouse while I was down there.
Along with Denco's, the real Norman tragedy was the Town Tavern closing (and new school tragedy, IMO, the Kettle on Lindsey--all you can eat breakfast buffet that starts at midnight, was all about beating that hangover).

the original Denco's shut down when i was an early teen or maybe even earlier.....at the spot by the railroad tracks where Coach's is now on Main. they re-opened it for a while in a more "respectible" guise for a while when i was in jr. hich/high school....but then it closed. Classic 50's is still going strong. i go get limeades and tator tots with cheese with my mom and sister there when i'm in Norman. we sort of boycott Sonic. across Lindsey over by highway 9 and southeast of Monroe Elem. School was my "hood". i went to Monroe.

when 50's used to still be "the" Sonic, there was the most bizarre, ill kept miniature golf course there in the late 70's/early 80's. it was designed by Dali or something. there were holes that were IMPOSSIBLE....and all these underground tunnels where yer ball would end up on other holes and shizz.

good times.

O'Connell's is still around, although the quality of waitress is going ever-so-slightly downhill with all of the independent bars that are popping up and taking the hottie sorority types...

The Kettle's been gone for a long, long time. It's a decent Mexican place now. I miss that Kettle too. I can't tell you how many Tarantino scripts I burned through sitting there being tore up with my friends...

Denco's... gone.
Kettle... gone.
Whataburger... gone.

...but the shithole that is Brother's will never freaking die. Gah.
