Report from Austin

Post by Sky »

Well it was a great trip...the only thing I could imagine being better would be a BCS/NC bowl game.

1st - The Game: I feel really good about our team as a whole after that performance. The game was closer than what the score said but I think we have the complete package. As L45B said, our defense bent but didn't break and I think that is right on. I could care less about losing in overall yards if we win in overall points. Our punter is shit hot and we finally made a FG so maybe special teams is coming together. The offense didn't look dominant but it did look solid. I hope UT's O and D lines are as good as everyone says because they protected their QB fairly well and put a solid hold on our running game. I think James L might be the next great LB.

2nd - The Fans: Impressed. 90-95% of the fans we met were class acts. Whether it was before, during or after the game they were great. We ate at a few tailgates and mingled with Texas fans who were really down to earth. I know ATM, TT and OU fans hate everything UT but I was impressed. There are a million little things they did that wouldn't mean much if I relayed them here but they were top-notch hosts. We even had an LSU and PSU guy sitting next to us at the game who were there just for the enjoyment of a CFB game. They reiterated our thoughts and said they were having a lot of fun.

3rd - The stadium: Nice stadium. We were upper deck on the S side and had a great view of the game and the godizillatron (but hell the people on I-35 had a good view of the godzillatron). They got rid of the ads when they did replays and that was very cool. Of course they didn't replay the late hit/helmet to helmet hit. Even though you guys didn't see it the ceremony for Earl was nice. That statue is huge. The concession stands ran out of hot dogs but even bars were running out of beer so I guess it was a bigger turnout than expected. Oh yeah, Matthew McConaughey is a big fag.

4th - 6th St: Awesome (possible understatment of the year). Great way to begin/finish any college game. Fans, bartenders, waiters were all really great to us even though we just won. Every freaking type of bar a person could ever ask for and tons of hot women. Beer was expensive but it probably kept us from getting totally wasted. I just wish it wasn't 18 freaking blocks from the stadium...that walk got old real quick.

Props:
JT
OSU D
Troy Smith
OSU fans (very strong showing)
UT fans
UT Stadium
6th St

And few things have ever been so enjoyable as singing our fight song in another team's stadium. RACK JT and our young defense on a job well done. One step closer to the NC. I am sure LB has a few more points I forgot.

generally, fans of a non traditional rival are tame and easy to get along with, they didnt grow up to hate your team. You talk to fans of their traditional rival and they will tell you what assholes they are, but that assholeness is probably reserved just for them.
When USC went to Auburn I was told to prepare for the worst by Bama fans. Once I got to Auburn, I didnt see any of what I was warned about. Same thing with the Rose Bowl a few years ago, Ohio State fans will go in length about the foul treatment they received by Michigan fans, the Michigan fans I met at that game were cool.
I bet if you speak to UCLA fan, USC fans are obnoxious, spoiled, unruly, egotistical loud mouths, but if you ask Arkansas, Auburn, Colorado, Oklahoma... fans you'll find that only 2 or 3 of those adjectives describing us is true

P.S. Thats a big fuckin TV Screen

Oh yeah, maybe O-H-I-O aggravates the rest of you guys but Texas-Fight gets old, really really quick.

Good point on the rivals. I guess if we beat UT like we beat UM they might hate us as well.

Pretty sure nobody's sick of "Conquest" yet either, even though it's played after every first down, every decent tackle, every beer downed, every Song Girl upskirt shot, etc...

in all fairness USC has 3 or 4 songs that they play over and over and over and over and over and over and over. 5 songs when UCLA is on the other side of the field

If Socal never hears "Fight On" or "Conquest" again it'll be too soon.

:-)

Then again, I'm sorry but without a doubt the single gayest fight song ever is the one shared (yes, shared!!) by UCLA and Cal. It sounds like circus music...French circus music.

"Queer Eye For The Carney Guy" is its title, I'm sure.
