Oregon @ Cal.
This is one of the most intriguing matchups of the season so far. Where are Jay and m2?

Even if Kal loses, I'm sure Lynch's YPC & Yards Per Game will still be higher, which will automatically make him the best running back in the country.IndyFrisco wrote:Yes, but who will have more rushing yards? Lynch or Stewart?

Tool must be going insane, I miss the little bitch stirring things up already. If USC had to play at Cal they'd probably be toast. But the Berkeley-boys still have to prove they can beat a quality opponent on the road.
Cal is looking like the preseason-hyped team that was supposed to have a shot at running-the-board.

You gonna bark all day little doggie or are you gonna bite?
Cal is playing great, right now.
Didn't help things that nobody, for us, showed up to play. Including the coaches.
USC is just barely hanging on to wins against the middle of the conference. If they don't improve they are going to lose a couple games and, right now, Cal looks like our best team.
Would have been nice if they didn't gag at Tennessee to make us all look weak, because of that. If you are going to blow it in such disgracing fasion in the opener, at least have the decency to suck for the rest of the year.

always nice to rub salt into the wounds of losing fans.
m2ool must be pissed he cant pound this forum with cal jibberish.
and when you throw a lead pipe lock up, and it gets shot down, nothing like pounding the ole chest, my 46 bets a saturday arent going well, so gotta tout the easy winners.
this was like stealing from a blind man.
Thing is, and anybody should've seen this...Cal-Oregon was in no way a lead pipe lock.
And even if it was, it was Cal who was the lead pipe, take-it-to-the-bank lock there, not Oregon.
There should've just been no way for an objective person to look at that game and see it as a gimme pick for Oregon. I just don't know how Dins, Mgo and Jay (three people who well know the game) managed to talk themselves into that one. I can see where maybe someone might've picked Oregon as part of a ten game football card, if they were forced to pick that game, but overall that was a game that if possible needed to be avoided.
Too many points were sure to be scored there, and Cal was coming in hot and they were playing at home. When Cal wins, they usually win big. On top of all this, Cal was initially favored by, what, 7?? In this one Vegas obviously thought more of Cal than of Oregon, and then the spread went down to 5.5, making Oregon an even less attractice play.
All in all, this is not the recipe for a lock pick for the visiting dog.
No way anybody should've made Oregon their lock pick. There were plenty of other picks out there that were much more compelling.

There was plenty of reason, some of which I just delineated.
5.5 points is nothing in a a typical high octane offensive showing at home by Cal. Cal hasn't been squeaking by in their wins, they've been winning by four TDs. There was every possibility that Oregon's D wasn't going to be able to slow down Cal's offense in Berkeley. They couldn't slow down OU's tepid offense and that was in Autzen.
Yeah, there was ample reason to believe Oregon would also score a lot but in a probable over-under total approaching 70 a mere 5.5 points can get swallowed up very easily.
Like I said, yeah, I could see where somebody could've talked themselves into taking Oregon and the points. To call suck a pick a lock though was absolutely ridiculous. Nearly every tout out there landed on Cal minus the points. Oregon plus the points was at best a coin flip pick, not a lock.

All against teams they SHOULD be beating by four TDs. The only exception being maybe ASU, but Oregon actually beat ASU by a larger margin than CAL did. And Oregon did it on the road, while Cal did it at home. So if you used that game as the determinant, Oregon certainly had the edge in this one.Van wrote:Cal hasn't been squeaking by in their wins, they've been winning by four TDs.
That 10-2 Cal team wouldn't have covered this spread two years ago at home when they squeaked by a sub .500 Oregon team by one point.
Again, I had every reason to believe Oregon could cover.

Well, as we delve more into conference play, a "lead pipe" lock mean something different than what it did a few weeks before when top ranked teams were playing the New Mexico St and La Monroe's of the world.
I know CAL is a good team at home, but the 5.5 seemed a bit much to me, considering the history between these two teams.
You're gonna get some locks right, you're gonna get some wrong. Of all the shots I've called on this board this season, I've done quite well, I think.

Exactly, Mgo, you have, which is why I was so surprised to see you, Dins and Jay calling this one an Oregon lock.
There were some locks out there yesterday, definitely. This one just wasn't one of 'em, at least not unless you had Cal, and even then, no, it wasn't a lock.

To my...discredit...I haven't seen either team play much this season.
Cal-Tennessee
Oregon-OU
That's about it.
I based this pick mostly on past trends, and current schedule results. I realized Cal had been beating people by wider margins, but I definitely thought Oregon was going to be more battle-tested.
I'm putting some of the blame on Dins, too.

I wasn't anticipating Oregon taking the field with laying an egg in mind. Duck fan was kind of living in dreamland -- after taking huge hits due to graduation/NFL, this was supposed to be a rebuilding year, which grew to overachieving status. But, the Ducks have lost about 2 key starters per game, every game this season. You can't take those kinds of losses without paying for it eventually.
But, for those who didn't see the game, there was the part where Cal played extremely well. Wasn't the same Cal team I've seen in other games this year. If they can keep this up, and actually do something on the road for a change, this is one scary team.
So, to sum up the weekend --
University of Oregon Football...DONE
Yankees...DONE
49ers...lost the play-in game to the Adrian Peterson Bowl...DONE
Trailblazers...training camp started, and with the "new" version of this team, the minute they take to the hardwood, it's "season over"...DONE
Yeah, the Sporting World pretty much made Dins its bitch this weekend.
RACK the Cal Bears for playing a fine game.

It's the same Cal team who showed up every game this season...besides the first game. Post Tennessee, Cal's been killing everybody. But, for those who didn't see the game, there was the part where Cal played extremely well. Wasn't the same Cal team I've seen in other games this year.
Yup. Just wish they'd taken care of business in Neyland. I just don't know if Cal has the 'nad to show big on the road in a big game.If they can keep this up, and actually do something on the road for a change, this is one scary team.
Nah. You have a very good team and your program is healthier now than it's been in your entire lifetime. This is the Golfen Era of Oregon football. You're now a for real program, one that can be counted on to approach 10 wins just about every season in the near future. So, to sum up the weekend --
University of Oregon Football...DONE
Take it from a USC Fan...Oregon is a team that will do the Pac 10 proud. They're not all the way there yet but they're coming, hard.
That fucking sucked.Yankees...DONE
Torre ain't the problem. Even the Cowardly Lion, A-Rod, ain't the problem.
Having Jaret Wright pitching a deciding game is the problem. Mike Mussina always flaming out in the playoffs is the problem. Carl Pavano's contract is the problem. Middle relief is the problem.
Pitching is the problem, period. The Yankees will likely pick up Barry Zito and maybe Jason Schmidt too, and will anybody be surprised if both guys flame out under the bright lights of NYC?
Do you really see Peterson as being a huge impact back in the NFL? I'll need to see it first. He's just not that fast or shifty and he's not an Earl Campbell type power back either. I suspect he's a talented back who benefits from playing in the Big XII, behind a mostly dominant line. I don't know that his talent will translate all that well in the NFL. Not too sure we'll ever see Peterson on any All Pro teams, which is what needs to happen if you're the Lottery Derby pick of a draft.49ers...lost the play-in game to the Adrian Peterson Bowl...DONE
You're not doing too poorly with Frank Gore back there, actually. The Niners are now on the right track under Nolan, definitely, although as long as the Yorks own 'em don't plan on gaining that sixth ring any time soon.
Train wreck.Trailblazers...training camp started, and with the "new" version of this team, the minute they take to the hardwood, it's "season over"...DONE
So did I!Yeah, the Sporting World pretty much made Dins its bitch this weekend.

Very good team. They just better do the Pac 10 proud this time in their bowl game. If they choke on that one again, especially after the Tennessee debacle, I just won't wanna hear about Cal ever again.RACK the Cal Bears for playing a fine game.
