Props Shine.........
I mean this in all seriousness when I say that after IU scored the go-ahead TD with a few minutes, I was rooting against Iowa to come back and score. And when Brodell dropped that ball and it was picked off it was almost a sigh of relief for me. Iowa did not deserve to win, Indiana did. I hate seeing teams like Iowa that are huge favorites go play an opponent like IU that busts their asses out their for 60 minutes and loses late because of 1 or 2 big plays. Iowa made too many mistakes, got out-schemed, and flat out got out hustled by the Hoosiers. It was a nice, well deserved win, for IU. For whatever reason, Indiana seems to give us fits. They don't usually beat us, but they do give us problems especially when there's a big game up next for us. They caught our defense napping. And how about your freshman QB......man was he impressive. He got into a groove and was unstoppable.
The thing that bothers me the most is the fact that maybe 1-2 players Indiana would start at Iowa. Clearly, Iowa has better players. But that and 75 cents will buy you a USA Today because on Saturday, Indiana was the better team. I remember in 2002 just before we drilled Michigan, we had to travel to Indiana and the Hoosiers were the only team in the last 6 games that even made us break a sweat (that includes Michigan). And Randle El was 3-1 against us at Indiana. 1994 we needed an int return late to beat them after Indiana was driving for a potential game winning TD. And I believe we lost at Indiana in the mid 90's sometime and lost to them at home in the early 1990's. Indiana football to Iowa is like Northwestern (or Northwestern St!) is to us in hoops.
Nice win, Shine. Now you just need 2 wins and you'll be bowl eligible. Getting to a bowl in his 2nd year would be quite the accomplishment for Hoeppner. Heck, Ferentz didn't do it until his 3rd.

In the 6 years I've been going to IU games, this is the 3rd time IU has beaten a ranked opponent while I have been there. IU is 9-4 in the games I have attended. Needless to say, the in-laws are already making babysitter plans for me in 2 weeks when Sparty is coming to town. They even have said they'd foot the bill for us to go to Columbus next weekend.
Supersticious bunch they are...
Oh, and jon...Iowa travels well. However, the fans are classless fucks. I could not believe the arrogance I witnessed yesterday. Before the game, nothing but loudmouthed taunts being thrown right and left. Yeah, every fanbase has their assholes, but IowaFan really lost a lot of respect from me yesterday.
I even sparked a conversation with an Iowa fan in the concession line. I said "looking forward to a good game today" and his reply was "until our first possession." I just smiled and said, "you're probably right".
Then, dickweed sitting right behind us was standing up chest thumping when it was 21-7. Another loudmouthed cock.
IUFan has a thing they do on first downs where they simulate marching. Iowa Section was mocking them with every Iowa first down.
Then, the worst thing...Iowa cheerleaders running all over the IU field with their big "I" "O" "W" "A" flags on every Iowa score. The field is for the home team players/fans and the opposing players. Keep your fucking cheerleaders on the track.
All in all, I talked with about 15 Iowa fans yesterday. Only 1 was cordial and that was AFTER the game. I'm not even an IU fan, but I was even surprised by the lack of respect IowaFan has in someone else's house.
I have a new team to hate.

Frisco,
Come on now, what's wrong with the cheerleaders bringing the flags onto the field? It's not taunting at all. Now, if they run to midfield and spike them, I would have run to midfield (a la George Teague) and taken them out. A lot of teams do that although most don't go quite as far onto the field.
You know, our fans are not classless but you're right, we have a traveling bunch that seems to really give us a bad name. Trust me, 90% of our fans are very friendly and respectful to the opponents, but for whatever reason we have a group (which us Iowans have dubbed the "Jihadic Wing" of the Hawkeye nation) that really stands out. They do not in any way represent our fan base. Ask Mace, he'll tell you all about the Jihadic Wing. We're ashamed of them. They're not real Iowa fans. What they are is a bunch of small-town idiots that have to go follow the team to a place that actually has stop lights and automobiles and they act like they've never seen those things before. The problem is these douchebags always have to stand out. They always have to make the trip to the bowl game. But believe me, they do not represent the vast majority of our fan base. But yeah, I can see how an opposing teams fan would dislike Iowa fans because of these people.
But I must say, I was at the ISU-A&M game 2 years ago in Ames and you guys had a corps of fans that were classless too. I was sitting in the Aggie section and had Iowa gear on. These faggots in front of me heard us say something about how your "Ayyyyyyyyyyyy" chant is annoying. So they start talking shit about Ames and how the ISU band is shitty. I'm not an ISU fan, which I mentioned a few times to them, but they still could not refrain from running smack towards me about the Clones. And there were many other Aggie fans doing and saying many classless things. Every fan base has their morons. Well, every fan base that supports a decent program.
Come to Iowa City and you'll see that the Jihads will stand out less because there's a larger portion of non-Jihads.

I should say something.....
I am not ripping on people from small towns and trying to say that ALL people from small towns act like that, I was just saying that the Iowa fans that act like that typically do come from a small town. But I think the way I said it made it sound like I do not like people from small towns, and that is not true- especially not small town women!

Rack Frisco. You should see how they act towards opposing fan, neutral fan, and even each other at home games. What a bunch of miserable fuck is IowaFan.IndyFrisco wrote:Oh, and jon...Iowa travels well. However, the fans are classless fucks. I could not believe the arrogance I witnessed yesterday. Mace,
I've been to quite a few venues, thanks. I'm not even an IU fan. I was speakeing as an UNBIASED observant. Also, I wasn't making a sweeping generalization. I even qualified that by saying only 1 out of about 15 Iowa fans was cordial and that was after the humble pie course was served. I also maintained the fact that all fanbases have their assholes. I just have a hard time believeing that I interfaced with 14 out of 15 of them. Law of averages, my friend.
You want to say IowaFan is full of class? They gotta prove it. They have along way to go to be NebraskaFan or OSUFan or AlabamaFan. Until I see different, IowaFan is shit.

Props to Indiana for hiring whats-his-face from Miami of Ohio, he was a nice get, a lot better than Illinois made. Illinois should've taken the guy that beat them Saturday on their home-turf with inferior talent, Solich. Indiana will have a tough road working-their-way-up in the 10 but give 'em time. I can see them making waves in a few years. They probably won't become a power but should become a good team that can play spoiler here-and-there.

Mace,
I'm a bigger fan of college football than I am an Iowa fan. Don't get me wrong, I'm a die-hard Iowa fan, but I also appreciate a good effort from an underdog and don't like seeing a team absolutely refuse to hustle on defense. We didn't deserve to win, and we showed that when we just let Indiana drive down the field with a few minutes left on just 3 fucking plays without even putting up a god damn effort. IU busted their tails out there and they earned this victory. I'm not jumping off any bandwagon. No one will be cheering louder for us to beat Michigan on Saturday, but for the first time in my life I actually spent the last few minutes of a game rooting against Iowa for the simple reason that I didn't want to see a team (regardless of whether or not I'm a fan of that team) come in acting cocky and give 0% effort out there and then beat a team that busted their fucking asses on the field for 60 minutes just so they can get their biggest win over the last 20 years. I'm a sucker for an underdog. Let's hope this loss was a wake up call. But this entire program is just too fucking arrogant. Both the players and the fans. I'm sick of hearing stories like the one Frisco says about how classless our fans are. Those dickheads don't deserve to win. We're not Michigan or Ohio State. One thing is for certain, you'll never see me act like that or the people I go to games with. In fact, I enjoy chatting and tailgating with opposing teams fans.
Which brings me to my point about the small towns.... First off, I'm engaged to a small town girl, so don't give me this lecture about small towns. I LOVE small towns. Would never want to live in one, but enjoy visiting, and occassionally hanging out at a small town bar. But the fact of the matter is that most of those fans that Frisco is talking about ARE from small towns. I'm sorry if you don't want to accept that, but it's a god damn fact. Not all, but a good majority of the Jihads are from small towns. Now, do I think they represent small town folk? Hell no. But unfortunately, we have a group of folks from small towns that feel the need to act like idiots when they travel to see the Hawkeyes play. Go to the bowl game this year and look for the Jihads and then go up to them and ask where they're from. 9 out of 10 will be from towns like Humboldt, Madrid, Perry, Creston, and other small towns in Iowa.
Another thing that really bugged me was Tate's actions towards Ken O'Keefe on Saturday during the game. That was a freakin' embarrassment to this team. Since when is Tate above the coaching staff? When did he earn the right to lay into our offensive coordinator on national television? He shouldn't be playing against Michigan. I sure as hell wouldn't play him. He should be benched.

Yep, great win for Indiana. As things stand right about now, the Michigan State-Indiana game is looking like it'll essentially be for a bid in the Insight Bowl. The winner is all but assured of being bowl-eligible, the loser will need to pull off an upset to get to that point.Indy Frisco wrote:In the 6 years I've been going to IU games, this is the 3rd time IU has beaten a ranked opponent while I have been there. I've never been real big on trying to label anyone else's fan base. Every team has its casual fans, its obnoxious fans, its arrogant fans, its knowledgeable and classy fans, and its completely clueless, but "I'm just happy to be here" fans.
You could ask ten different people what they think about a given team's fan base, and you'll get varied responses from each. Everybody seems to base their opinion of an entire fan base on their isolated personal experience(s) with a few fans.

You're right, Mace, I don't know a thing about big cities. I mean, it's not like Chicago is a big city or anything. I lived there for a couple years. Yeah, crazy me, talking about big cities when I'm not even familiar with them.
I never said Des Moines was a MAJOR city. It's not. Far from it. But it is a big city, relatively speaking. Of the 30,000 or so towns in the country, Des Moines ranks in the Top 85 or so. 500,000 is NOT a small town. Small towns don't have multipe high schools in them. Small towns are towns that have one school and everyone knows everyone. That's not Des Moines. I'm not going to start calling anyone names. Unlike you, I'm better and more mature than that. But I will say, that you are making statements that you know NOTHING about.
I'm a bandwagon fan because for the first time ever I didn't want to see Iowa win a game because they don't deserve it? Yeah, where the fuck were you 6 years ago on these boards taking beat downs from fans of every team because MY team sucked donkey balls? Don't even fucking talk to me about being a die-hard Iowa fan. It's an insult to try and tell me I'm not. I'm the most loyal Iowa fan and the biggest die-hard you'll ever know. While the rest of the fans bolted the OB in the 4th quarter, I stayed. I stayed and I cheered when we scored that last meaningless TD. Then I stayed 10 minutes after the game to cheer the Hawks off the field because, even though they stunk it up that day, they deserved it.
I'm sure you sat out in the cold in November in 1998-2000 when we were playing "salvage the season" games. Yeah right. I was. Ask me how many home games I've missed in the last 20 years? Maybe 9-10 at the most.
Call me what you want, although calling someone names on a message board that you've never met is pretty brave of you (sarcasm), but to sit here and try and tell me that I am just a bandwagon fan only proves that you are what you called me. I root for 1 team and 1 team only (well, I like Florida too, but not to the level of the Hawkeyes). But, I also do not like seeing teams that give 0% effort win games. I am a fan of football, not just a fan of the Hawkeyes.
I suppose next you're going to tell me I'm a bandwagon Kansas City Royals fan and that I only root for the Royals and attend games in KC because they win all the time!?????? Or am I not a bandwagon Royals fan, but a bandwagon Chiefs fan??? Which is it, I'd like to know. That way, when I go to Royals games next year, I can know if I'm a true fan or not. It would really help me out since I do not know what I am and need you to speak for me.
And by the way, when I said those "Jihads" are generally from small towns, I am right on that. You can dispute it all you want, but that is a mother fucking fact.

Right on. I've been to a ton of games and can't think of a group that's any more horrible than any others. Maybe I just don't notice. Then again, I've never been to Philadelphia. By the way, where the hell's the namesake of this post anyway? I'm sure he'll trot in here once basketball starts. But more to the subject at hand, that was a HUGE win for the IU football program....at least I hope it wasn't just a blip. Mich. St. should be a little more wary when they come this way next Saturday so some of the air might come out. I don't think Ohio St. has too much to worry about this Saturday and losing there is pretty much expected.....unless Frisco makes the roadie....then maybe the Hoosiers could cover.MgoBlue-LightSpecial wrote:I've never been real big on trying to label anyone else's fan base. Let me explain. In 1999, ND was getting their asses kicked up and down the field by Navy. The same team that ND beat 33 straight times. Bob Davie was coach, and it was clear that he wasn't going to do shit for the program. I wanted ND to lose to Navy because A.) it would almost guarantee Davie's termination at the end of the year and B.) Navy always plays their ass off against ND and is never rewarde for it (on the field). ND got a bullshit first down (on 4th and 9, ND got 7 and a great spot by the ref.) and threw the game winning TD pass with about 20 seconds left on the clock. I was pissed because ND was stuck with Bullet for another year, and Navy got fucked again.
I also wanted USC to hammer fuck ND in '04 to get rid of Chauncey.
My rooting interest was because I wanted a coach gone, not just because the other team gave a great effort.
So if JON wants Ferentz gone, I completely understand his point of view. If not, you never, ever root for your team to lose. Ever.
Fuck me.

Imagine Jeff Bowden taking over for 5 years and then he was followed up with John Bunting. You'd be amazed.Nolesy wrote:THe only possible way Bobby Bowden would get run is if FSU went 4-8 or something. Thats not going to happen and even still I would NEVER root against the garnett and gold.

Mace,
You have got to be kidding me. Can you even fucking read? Please tell me you can.
I told you in my first (or maybe 2nd) post in this thread that just because you're from a small town does NOT mean you're a dick. I'm just saying that most of the jihads ARE from small towns. And, when I'm talking small towns, I'm talking towns like Carroll, Melrose, Perry, Tama, etc... Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Council Tuckey, Dubuque, Davenport, Sioux City, Iowa City/Coralville, etc...... anywhere 50,000 and above is NOT a small town. Defenitely not major cities, but certainly not small towns. We have a population of about 2.5 million. I'd say probably 1.5 million live in cities with the size of 50k or above. Don't have anything to back it up, just an estimate. Sounds about right. 500,000 in DSM.....100,000 in Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, Davenport/Bettendorf, Council Bluffs, Dubuque approximately. That's about 1.2 million or so right there. Throw in towns like Ames and Iowa City and you've got over 1.3 million just in those cities. I can't think of all the cities in Iowa, but I'd guess 1.5 million are in cities that are not considered small towns. So, no, most Iowans DON'T live in small towns. Heck, 1/5 of our population is in the Des Moines metro. You're confusing what my definition of a small town is.
2nd off, take a freakin' chill pill man. No need to get hostile because someone disagrees with you.
3rd off, no I have never had a point where I found myself rooting against Iowa. I just got really fucking pissed off late in that game and emotions got to me. I have never been that pissed during a game.
4th off, you just said they got outhustled. So they gave no effort. In my mind little effort is the same as no effort. What's the difference? Either way, we didn't hustle the entire game and that was very disappointing.
5th off, of course I was there for the 1973 season. I'm 26 years old, so how could I not have missed that!!????
6th off, I don't root for Indiana. I couldn't give a fuck about IU. In fact, I dislike IU, especially in hoops.
7th off, I became a mild Gator fan because I have a lot of relatives down in Florida that are die-hards. We talk Gator football all the time and I became a fan about 10 years ago or so. When they played Iowa in the 2 Outback Bowls I was rooting for Iowa to win by 50.
8th off, I've never been called twatlips before and I believe you called me that 3 times. In fact, I kinda like that. I think I'll steal that one from you if you don't mind.
9th off, Have you ever stopped to think that maybe, just maybe I like to say things on here for the simple reason that I like to see some of you get your panties in a bunch? Not always, sometimes I'm actually serious. But on numerous occasions, my sole purpose of the post was to get responses to my posts like the ones you just wrote. It's posts like you've made on this thread that keep me coming back for more. Thank you, Mace, I have enjoyed this conversation with you!
