The Kids Are Alright...
Nice week...
Vince gets his first NFL win and that kid in Arizona again looked like a damn good NFL QB, wouldn't ya' say? Sure didn't act or play like a normal NFL rookie QB, that's for sure.
Now, if only he could just get out from beneath the Arizona Hex. Christ, that team is hopeless.
I know this is the wrong forum and all but fuck, these are "our" kids out there so what's it going to take before Arizona stops being the Chicago Cubs of the NFL??? I've never heard of any "Cardinals Curse" but that franchise sure has that aura about 'em. Snakebitten. Always snakebitten, forty years running now.
One other CF related note there...
Brian Urlacher...a safety...at New Mexico?? Now he's...Brian Urlacher. Either New Mexico's coaches are the dumbest people on the planet or dude's the "late bloomer" world record holder. That guy's a fuggen monster. Damn but he's a solid, well coached and disciplined player. Dude just does the right thing, every time. Even as good as he was early on he still just seems to keep getting better and better throughout his career. He's a joy to watch.
Between Urlacher and Shawne Merriman in San Diego, man, either one would be a great choice around which to build your franchise.

I can see why this forum has become frustrated with you. "Our" kids?Van wrote:Nice week...

The homer in you, makes it hard to read.
Re: The Kids Are Alright...
Yeah, "our" kids, in that we've all sat here in this forum and watched and rooted for all these kids for years now.montinelevin wrote:"Our" kids?Van wrote:Nice week...

Many a time our talks here have centered around how we think each guy might pan out in the NFL and now we're getting our first glimpses. We don't stop following these kids and we don't stop rooting for 'em just because they move on to the NFL.
Was I rooting for Leinart tonight? Was I proud of how he played? Fuck yeah I was, on both counts. Damn right I was homering for him. If I'm Vito here I'm also proud to see Vince chalking up his first NFL win.
No shame in any of it.

This is an NFL topic.
Van, just about every kid comes from college football. It doesn't make them "our's" when it comes to college football. It makes an NFL topic.
Thanks for the oh so necessary clarification there, Captain Obvious.
See...
Since you're apparently a noob here m2 I guess you weren't around (
) during all the talks last year centering around Leinart and Young and how they'd do in the NFL. My post here is merely a continuation of that discussion and it was mostly posted with Vito in mind.
No spin at all. I'm very up front and clear about what I post and why I post. I also make no effort to disguise my rooting interests. Nobody here has any doubts about 'em, just as I have no doubts that Vito is rooting for VY and Michael Huff to do well in the NFL...

Vito, even as bad as they are VY's spot isn't nearly as hopeless a spot as Leinart's.
Denny Greene...Bill Tidwell...one playoff win in my lifetime...
Tennessee at least has Jeff Fisher and a recent Super Bowl appearance. Tennessee can at least remember what it's like to be competitive.
Arizona is just cursed. (Bill Tidwell being the curse...)
VY has hope. Leinart's doomed.

I didn't misplace it. I knew it was unusual to post it here and I acknowledged as such right off the bat.montinelevin wrote:van, I just wanted to point out how you miss placed your post.
I don't post in the NFL forum, I post here. I don't even post on the main board anymore. One board is more than enough for me. I don't need to spend any more time on the internet than I already do. This is my one board, this CF board. When I get bored with this one I won't move on to or back to any other boards, I'll just bail completely.
Besides, I wasn't so much posting about the NFL per se as I was posting a follow up to a long standing topic about our college players. Pretty sure Vito got it, right away.

Not necessarily. Arizona should have won that game tonight. Problem was, between the conservative coaching, idiotic fumbles, horrid kick coverage, a kicker who blows a FG he makes 90 percent of the time and downright bad luck, absolutely nothing went right for them tonight. If they can just learn how to play like they did in the 1st half tonight, they will be fine.Van wrote:Leinart's doomed.

You forget that Tennessee was once the Houston Oilers. The team that blew a 32 point lead in the playoffsVan wrote:Vito, even as bad as they are VY's spot isn't nearly as hopeless a spot as Leinart's.

The team that started a season 1 - 4 and ended that season 12-4 only to lose in their first playoff game.
I could go on but this is just putting me in a bad mood.
Needless to say the cards and titans are equally snake bit, but once upon a time the 49ers were the same way. Of course that was the 70's.

Fuck, I thought FJ had alread eclipsed Joe, last year. At least that's what it sounded like in here. What with FJ being as big as Jordan and all.Vito Corleone wrote:I love seeing Vince succeed but damn the Titans suck. You could put Montana in his prime on this team and they would still suck bad.

I hate to nitpick Heup b/c you are a quality poster unlike myself, but Boulware actually was a WR in HS, and was moved to OLB in college. He topped out at 220, so even a LB was stretching it for him. He should have been playing Rover.

Now that you are on the canvas (as you have been) and YOU know it, you can only try to build yourself back up. Good luck in your journey. Christopher Columbus would not envy the path you must take, however.

Thanks for the correction.
Couple things:
1. Van- why you keep letting trolls do just that... troll you along, is beyond me. The fact you can't discern between when it's time to say to yourself, "awwww fuck it" or "here, squeeze another post out of my anus" scares me.
2. I would also say that overall, Leinart looked pretty good last night. He was really putting the ball where it needed to be. Whether it was a pass downfield, receivers had 'em in stride. If it was a quick screen to the flanker, it was on the button and he could immediately make a move downfield. I also found him hitting his hot reads pretty consistently. Looks like he could be a good one.
Ken, I've always been guilty of not giving a shit about my "opponent's" identity or intent. I just go with what's posted.
Yep, lots of times I've ended up going 'round and 'round with trolls because of it.
Guilty as charged.
I was impressed with Leinart's poise, leadership and command of the game. Yeah, he delivered the ball well but then that was never going to be the question with Leinart. With only a couple of notable exceptions he's always been a very accurate passer with solid mechanics. He's also been fairly agile and smart within the pocket. He can move a bit, and just enough, as needed. He's also proficient at the roll out game.
What was really impressive was the way he was checking down his receivers and always going with the smart read, even when it had to be frustrating to keep going to the underneath check off receivers.
He looked like a seasoned vet and that was what was very cool to see. A lot of guys in his position would've gotten frustrated and tried to force something downfield...like, say, Rex Grossman.
Leinart is just my kind of QB: Smart, with his ego is in check. He wins with his head and his arm, not his legs and his panic instinct. He doesn't rely on pure athleticisim so his career won't be subject to his physical abilities and the normal wear and tear that comes with playing years in the NFL...

B-t-H, I really cringed when Oakland passed on Leinart. No knock against Michael Huff but damn, the Raiders need help everywhere. With the demise of Rich Gannon they've been sorely in need of a QB, first and foremost. For a rebuilding team that can neither score nor put butts in the seats Leinart taking over the QB slot for the next ten years would be much more key than Huff firming up the free safety position.
Andrew Walter, vs Matt Leinart?
There's a reason Oakland remains Oakland.
