Picked it up a few weeks ago. Damned fine piece of work, although a bit heavy in parts. I'd recommend it for anyone who wanted to read more about the Peloponnesian war without having to wade through their college version of Thucydides.

My first-ever college assignment, in my 8:00 a.m. freshman Humanities class, was to read the first 250 pages of Thucydides by Wednesday. I've sort of had an aversion to that work ever since.

some other ancient historians that are worth checking out are Polybius, Tacitus and Suetonius.....if that kind of stuff floats your boat.

and Robert Graves I, Claudius is a pretty nifty rip of Tacitus and Suetonius....and while a bit dated (I guess) the BBC version is still pretty good stuff.

and at least you didn't have to read Tacitus in greek.
