Somebody put a muzzle on Herbstreit

The only thing more annoying than "coach-in-the-stands" guy is "bitch-about-the-announcers" guy. That said, Herbstreit is making my fucking ears bleed with his verbal fellatio of the Big East. I've always thought of him as a bright spot on a television full of asshats. But his comments during UL/WVU and UL/RU have destroyed his credibility.

With apologies to Mucho, the Big East has not been vindicated in the last two weeks, it has been exposed. I don't know how people who've watched the last two weeks are keeping straight faces while saying that Rut-fucking-gers belongs in the same conversation with Texas, SC, Florida, Auburn, Cal, ND, etc., etc., etc. It's almost like ESPN has a contract to broadcast Big East games.

I can't wait to hear Herbie and the gang talk about the "great depth" of the Big East when Rutgers loses to Cincy next week.

Oh, and just so you fellas don't think I have a heart of stone, I really enjoyed the game and I'm thrilled for the Rutgers program. Any debate about conferences should not take away from this great story.

I couldn't agree more Stoops.

With the 5 dropped balls for potenial first downs by Rutgers on third down, you'd be down by at least 3 TD's in the PAC. Then it would get really ugly.

herbstreit was prolly hoe'd out by the espn brass for doing a halfway decent job. my favorite line of his was, "this is a big night for college football, and an even bigger night for the big east." eh? i'd think it a shit night for the big east considering louisville had a chance to play in the championship game.

And on that note, when Rutgers plays WVU they may lose (wouldn't that be fucked up - WVU, R, and Louisville all with one loss to one another). So they would essentially ruin each others chances at the National Title and throw their BCS game up for grabs.

Well, that is a good point. In the past I have liked Herbie (beyond the OSU connection) and while he has been over the top the past few weeks at least he is some new blood. He is much better than Fouts, Musburger or KJackson but I think this bowl season will tell a little more.

PSU, I don't think getting excited about the game and about Rutgers' story is mutually exclusive with taking a logical approach to the conference debate. I loved the game. I loved the excitement of the Rutgers fans. I didn't love Herbie's lecture about how we should all "back off" of our criticism of the Big East. I don't think anyone's criticizing the conference itself, they're just saying that its not comparable with the other five (or at least three of the five).

I guess I'm just sick of the ESPN hype machine. Two weeks in a row of crazy talk.

Actually, I hope that WVU kicks Rutgers in their collective balls, then assfukks them in the mouth. I would love to see UF make it through the SEC and take on the OSU/scUM winner.

No need to apologize. To be considered a national title contender you have to prove that you can go on the road and win the tough games. WVU and Louisville didn't accomplish that, nor do I think Rutgers will get the job done when they go to Morgantown on 12/2. Rutgers should roll Cincinnati next week.

The Big East actually does have a very nice tv package with ESPN that begins next season.

While the conference did take a hit last night the exposure is going to help a very good deal.

In the event that Louisville, Rutgers, and WVU finish 6-1 in the conference, WVU would more than likely get the BCS bid due to being the highest ranked team in the BCS after 12/2.

I hear that. It's gotten to the point at which even good takes from ESPN analysts are drowned out by the awful overall din.

It often seems to me that ESPN analysts are speaking to one another more than they are to the CFB football fanbase at large. I don't think they "do" CFB particularly well, really. CFB has a huge fanbase of knowledgeable fans, many of whom have been watching college football prior to the inception of the 4 letter network, many of whom have a deeper understanding than they often display, many of whom love the game more than the jabbering heads seem to.

Believe me, when an ESPN mushmouth draws breath to spout about CFB, I prepare myself for a deluge of horseshit, each and every time.

I agree. The Big East is much improved but Rutgers isnt up there w/ the big name One Loss schools. ESPN does over hype but I usually dont see Herbie doing most of it. I think he is one of the few quality broadcasters ESPN has. I think maybe he just got a little bit tied up in the emotion of the game last night.

Every TV network, in every sport, tries to convince viewers they are watching the greatest teams from the greatest conference in the most exciting game ever played, to a certain extent. It only seems like it's worse from ESPN because they have more games and shows in which their "experts" spend more time pimping, gaffawing, back-slapping, smacking and goosing each other, along with endless opportunities to include both overt and subtle promos of upcoming ESPN games as part of their "analysis."
