They just opened one up down the road from me here---anyone have an experience with this place ?? Looks a bit "pricey" but could it work for a special dinner or treating visitors. TIA

Zyclone will be here later to tell you about eating there 4 times/wk. He even posted pics of his bills. I think he drops about $1000/wk living it large at that joint. I doubt your pension will allow you to eat there more than once/yr.
When I was living back East, Sean Hannity live on his radio show pimped it saying it was excellent. I've heard it's really good but then again very pricey.

Seriously. I don't disagree with a word of it.
Everything's ala carte, i.e. asparagus, baked potato, etc. but the filet is freaking good. No I'm Zyclonic, but I do get in there from time to time.
And if you're for looking "more for your' money" just go with mikey's wife, there's plenty of her to go around and she's real cheap.
However, if you'd like to take the lady out for a great steak then I would highly reccomend Ruth's Chris.

I've never eaten at Ruth's Chris but I ate a steak in San Jose Cali 3 years ago at a highly recommended place I cannot even recall the name of (that's how memorable it was) The in-laws were raving about how good the steak was. I got a New York. Sidedishes were excellent and the overall dining experience was exceptional. The steak? I"ve had better sirloin off the store shelf that wasn't exactely my best effort on the grill. When it comes to good beef....I'm probably just spoiled living here in Nebraska.

Special dinner, yes. Once, maybe twice, just for shits and grins.Wolfman wrote:but could it work for a special dinner or treating visitors.
Treating visitors, hell no. Unless you have some reason that you what to try and impress some by throwing cash around.
Chances are you have already been to a joint near you with food as good, or better than you will get there, at 1/3 to 1/2 the price.

No Ruth's Cris around here. My relatives in the ATL tell me it's good, but horribly overpriced food.

Thanks for the insight. I have yet to read the following on the first page:patsy stone wrote:I recommend only for special occasions. Pricey. And everything is a la carte. Yay.

I love how some idiots definitively state one is better than the rest, bwha. No one can outright claim that Morton's is better than Ruth's Chris, Shulas is better than Morton's, Ruth's Chris better than Shulas, etc, etc, etc.
Base your ratings on ONE experience at each much? On any given day, one can be better than the other based upon the service, the particular cut of meat you get, how it's cooked that night... They're ALL very good.
On any given night, any one can be better than the other. It's a crapshoot.

Re: Ruth's Chris Steakhouse ???
I live 5 minutes from Taste of Texas and I think it sucks. The service is horrible and the steak is over priced for the cut of meat that you get.rozy wrote:TasteMississippi Neck wrote:Wolfman wrote:They just opened one up down the road from me here---anyone have an experience with this place ?? Vic and Anthony's is the best in Houston
My rankings:
Vic and Anthony's Houston/Las Vegas at the Golden Nugget
Bob Steak and Chop House Dallas
The Steakhouse at Bally's Las Vegas
Ruth's
Flemmings
Shula's New York
Ruth's is good. They have a good filet. I also dig on the Barbeque Shrimp. The Ahi Tuna appetizer is killer. Their dessert's suck. Decent salad. Good wine list. Expect to spend $50 per person to start.
Ken wrote: No one can outright claim that Morton's is better than Ruth's Chris, Shulas is better than Morton's, Ruth's Chris better than Shulas, etc, etc, etc.
I've been to Shula's twice - Vegas & Birmingham
Morton's 3 times - Boca Raton, Chicago
RCS at least a dozen - Memphis, Orlando, Denver, St. Louis
So I'd say I have a pretty good Sampling by which to base my opinion
I'd also toss Del Frisco's in Denver in at # 4
Here in KC - Plaza III & Hereford House are excellent.

I believe you are the only person on this board that drinks. Shame on you! As the reindeer properly suggest, showing your sweater meat can possibly atone for your drunken behavior.patsy stone wrote:Sorry. Was a little drunk last night.

Anyway, I've never eaten at those places aforementioned so I'll listen to the board experts.
I DO know there is this steakhouse down the I-35 between Oklahoma City somewhere around Moore before the Norman turnoff that has the best steaks I've ever had to this day.
Fresno has this place that specializes in prime rib and it's damn good. They don't take reservations and are only open from 4:30 to whatever is closing. They serve real horse radish if requested, twice baked potato, and asparagus with that one trick pony meal. It is called Tahoe Joe's (not Trader Joe's) and it is the best prime rib in this area.

No, you THINK you do.KC Scott wrote:Ken wrote: No one can outright claim that Morton's is better than Ruth's Chris, Shulas is better than Morton's, Ruth's Chris better than Shulas, etc, etc, etc.

You've been to two whole Shula's. Wow. Know how many there are? Over 15.
You've been to two different Morton's. Wow. Know how many there are? OVER FUCKING 60.
Been to a dozen Ruth's Chris. Wow. Know how many there are? Yeppers.
So, really... shut the hell up. You only THINK you know based upon your sampling of 10% of the Shula's, 3% of the Morton's, and 15% of the Ruth's Chris's.
All three are darned good with one being better than the other on any given night based upon the chef, service, and the exact cut of meat chosen for you.

Gee Ken, getting kinda worked up about an opinion, huh
Do you want to debate what color Blue the sky is today?
As for "My" rankings - They are all close, just personnal preference.
Mace,
When I'm up in Des Moines I'm alway's out on the West Side - and Usually eat at the Steakhouse in the Marriott. Any good recomendations?
As for "value" Steakhouses here in KC, there is a place south of town called Jess n' Jim's that is really good. Same sizzlin presentaion but no Ala carte and the prices are about 1/3 less (was around $22 for a 10 oz Fillet) - I haven't been there in a few years, but can't imagine it's changed much
