Larry Johnson -- RACIST?

Post by ucantdoitdoggieSTyle2 »

Anyone see the horse shit this dude was shoveling on HBO's Inside The NFL?? I guess I can understand relating to a black coach if you both grew up in South Central and lived with the threat of drugs, gang bangers, etc, etc. I am pretty sure LJ grew up in a lily white neighborhood in the mountains of Pennsylvania and didn't come from the 'hood. I really have a problem with the bolded comments below. Can you imagine a white player saying he could only play for a white coach? What a tool.

“I wouldn’t pay attention,” Johnson said of playing under Vermeil. “My eyes, I would be up in the sky. You know, I would be sleeping in my locker. I wouldn’t carry my playbook because I was just trying to get away from this building, you know, when Dick was here.”

Carter asked LJ, “Do you think Herm Edwards, being an African-American and you being raised, of course, by an African-American, that you see a lot of similarities in Herm that you saw in your dad that made you open up to him?”

LJ’s response: “I think so. I could relate to Herman. I couldn’t do that with the other coaches I had because they had not done it. You know, they haven’t put those pads or they haven’t been in the situation as a young black athlete and know what we had to go through.

He goes on to say "I thinks black players should play for black coaches and that it's hard to take commands from a white coach because they don't know who I am or or what I've been through".

Both Costas and Marino said "I have a problem with what he said, it shouldn't matter if a coach is black or white, just because he's white doesn't mean he can't understand him or coach him"

Unless Vermeil broke a whip out during practice and made him pick cotton after every fumble, LJ should shut the fuck up.

Yep.

Saw that last night, and I thought "what the fuck is this dumbass thinking spouting this shit?"

There's no question he had problems with Vermeil, mainly beacuse Vermeil didn't want to draft him,
But why not leave it at that instead of making it about all white coaches.
Great way to Not get any endorsement deals there, LJ.
Pretty sure we won't be seeing him on Madden 2008 Box or on Nike's Briscoe High team.

Even worse was watching Carter try and defend the comments,
While Costa's and Marino took him to task.

I'm glad LT doesn't have a problem having a white coach.

I saw LJ and Chris Carter. I could not believe it.

Lemme guess,,had Trent Green been interviewed and said " I tune Herm Edwards out,he doesnt relate to me and what I go through. Vermeil understood the things I deal with as a white male".

I'm guessing not only would he and the KC Chiefs be leveied a hefty fine but Jesse Jackass and the NAACP would be calling for his banning and the torching of Arrowhead Stadium and everything Chief related.

but I'm sure nothing will happen to LJ.

That, and the "time to take the diapers off" comment that Vermeil uttered.

No shit. Last I checked, Penn State had a white head coach and errr... LJ didn't start there until his senior season and oops, but I don't think he started on his high school team until his senior season also. I bet that HS team had a white head coach as well. I guess it's easy to see why LJ has such a chip on his shoulders. The Man has been keeping him down his whole life.

No way to defend LJ on this one. Totally stupid comments to make in front of the camera. But at the same time, I think he got set-up a bit by Chris Carters bullshit line of leading questions. Still, LJ should not have swallowed the bait so easily.

Speaking of Chris Carter and HBO's inside the NFL, anybody else ever notice that whenever Carter is speaking, he's never, ever, looking directly into the camera? Annoying as hell, that.

Next week they're having their 30th anniversary special and bringing back Len Dawson and Nick Bounicotti (sp?). They never should have dumped them in the first place for the clowns they have now. Of the bunch, Marino is the only one worth listening to.

LJ is and has always been a piece of crap every since he was drafted. Eminem thinks LJ has wig-ger issues. Craziest thing of all is, I dont know where the fuck he gets it. If you ever hear his Dad, or his brother (handler), they are polar opposites of bitter ass LJ. Both of the nicest, stand up guys you could ever come across.

Should be interesting to see what Vermiel has to say, when he is the color man for the Chiefs-duh game on Dec 23rd.

The Sports Illustrated article about LJ tells you everything you need to know about him. He's the intellectual soul mate of his neighbors' ten-year old kid.

And yet I'm still good with him carrying the rock for my team.

....lets face it Paul, he has now thrown himself into the category of future Raiduh material. All kidding aside, it's a shame to hear those type of braindead comments out of anyone.

Not exactly. LJ grew up in the DC metro area. His dad got the PSU gig when Larry was in 9th grade, I believe.

Larry Johnson Sr. was a legendary Maryland HS coach - and a High School principal - prior to coming to PSU.

The Johnson family is very well respected. His mom describes Larry as "having a chip on his shoulder".

The kid's mouth has always gotten him in to trouble. Hopefully one day he gets wiser...but then again, he's a ball player. Don't expect too much.

I once met a black homeless man named Al in a dark alleyway. He reaked of shit, and I noticed quickly that he needed food. However, to be honest, I really didn't have much in common with him.

I stabbed him to death with a knife I was carrying in my briefcase before heading back to my apartment on West Eighty-First Street.
