He shoots stripper, then kills self
PHILADELPHIA - A strip-club regular must have wanted to go out with his favorite dancer, but she barely gave him the slip.
Lawrence McGuigan, 49, paid to meet with Harmony Adams in the Champagne Room of the Cheerleaders Gentlemen's Club - then shot her and turned the gun on himself, authorities said.
McGuigan died at a hospital, but Adams, 31, who was shot in the back of the neck and was in intensive care yesterday, is expected to survive, police said.
"He specifically wanted to be at this place with her," said police Capt. Benjamin Naish.
McGuigan had been despondent and threatened suicide recently, authorities said.
Marc Raspanti, a lawyer for the South Philadelphia club, called the shooting "an unfortunate event caused by an obviously despondent person." The club is cooperating with police, he said.
McGuigan had been arrested twice on drunken-driving charges this year, and was due in court Friday on the second case. He was convicted of the first offense and was scheduled to serve a three-day jail term in January.
He had been convicted in August of driving with a blood-alcohol level that was three times the legal limit. The sentence included a one-year license suspension, a $1,000 fine and parole.
