All the security is probably overkill but it's also naive to think a Superbowl in Miami is just another game.

Rack that. I grew up about a block or so from Rosenblatt in Omaha. My brother and I made some serious cash (80's) renting out our driveway to CWS fans. We could fit 5 cars at 10-15 bucks a spot. People were very generous and appreciative of having a secure place to park their vehicles. Most tipped us and we would even wash their cars if they wanted us to. Great memories.

That's pretty stupid. Do they really think people that shelled out 4 and 5 digits for their tickets would be considered security risks? I can't vouch for Detroit last season but parking around Ford Field isn't that great for tailgating to begin with.

No watching the Super Bowl at Soldier Field

January 28, 2007 - Despite an official request from the Chicago Park District, the National Football League won't allow a showing of the Super Bowl at Soldier Field.

The League owns the show and is adamant its for private, home-based viewing by individuals.

The park district proposed admitting fans for a nominal charitable donation. The NFL said that would water down T.V. ratings.

Tail-gating, however, will take place in parking lots around soldier field. The price is the regular $15.

If I'm not mistaken, Soldier Field is a fucking public facility built with public dollars, when the NFL was worth about as much as one of Prince's farts.

I get that the broadcast is "owned" by the NFL, but the NFL doesn't determine who watches what, where.

Ooops, my bad. I've just been flagged typing this. I'm sure my NFL viewing privileges will be suspended immediately. Then again maybe not ... they can't afford to not have me watching the greatest event ever broadcast in human history, along with a few thousand who might show up to give money to charity.

Time for me to get Ditka as my NFL viewing advocate. I'm pretty sure my posting abilities here will be suspended any day now if I continue this unsanctioned criticism.

The Super Bowl is becoming less and less about the fans and more about money and ratings. Why else are the ads becoming too big of thing during the game? Between this and the tailgating...Lamar Hunt must be spinning in his grave. This is further proof that while TV allows all of us to watch the game, they also do just enough to keep the product from being as good as it could be.

Is the NFL going to do the same thing to sport bars? Believe it or not, I think more than one person watches the game on the same television. It's not like 100 million people watch the game on 100 million different TVs. Are they really that worried about how many people watch the game...especially since no one on the other channels even try to compete with them on Super Bowl Sunday? Just count every fan that is inside of Soldier Field...how does that water down ratings? Christ, if fans want to freeze their asses off in a stadium to watch the game...those are type of dedicated fans the league shouldn't turn their back on.

I think we're so addicted to the NFL that we allow this type of crap to go on and we really have no voice in the matter. That league sometimes thinks they are bigger than they think they are. They think they know what's best for us, the fans/consumers.
