I can't believe I'm saying this but where is Rat Pack when you need him?
They looked good out of the gate...started 3-0 and then went 3-14-1 after that. Not many coaches would've surived a stretch like that...especially a guy on shaky footing like Hanlon. I didn't think the Caps were going to be a playoff team this year but they should at least pushing for a spot in Ovechkin's third season now that he's a got a decent supporting cast around him now. They did win today over the Flyers in OT...blew a 3-0 lead in the game though.
Backstrom has had a relatively quiet rookie season and Semin can't seem to stay healthy...those were two young players they were leaning on. Nylander has been a nice addition but as a team, there is still too big up a drop off in scoring after you get past Ovechkin. McPhee should be getting as much heat for as bad as this team is when you see teams like Columbus and Chicago have turn around years. In the cap era, you can realistically compete even when you're in a building/rebuilding mode.
I'm very surprised how the Pens have started this year but I think most of that falls on the shoulders of Fleury. A 3.47 GAA isn't going to get your team into the playoffs even with two guys in the top 6 in scoring. This isn't the 80s...
