Lack of institutional control...

Post by Left Seater »

and other thoughts while in China.

Granted some of this is going to be glass dick, but I don't see myself reading every thread for the last 3 plus weeks.

U$C - Bush getting ready to give a deposition and the Mayo news breaks. If both turn out to be proven (can't imagine that happening, U$C will skate) there isn't a better case for lack of institutional control in the last 15 years. I don't think anyone (except maybe the board bitch) is arguing that the Bush family didn't benefit from the housing gift. Now Mayo? Some will argue that there is really no way U$C would know in either case. Bullcrap! U$C has a compliance department run by Ellen Ferris, Associate Provost for Athletic Compliance, University of Southern California. It is her job to know these things. If she or her department can't figure things out then she and her staff need to go. Amazing that these two couldn't wait for their cash and put their schools in this position.

On another note I would like to see federal legislation that would put these runners and agents out of business. Take away an agents liscense and but him and his runners in prison and this will stop.

Draft - Bama has no one drafted and multiple D III players are drafted. Brings a smile to my face.

China - Amazing country. I would suggest everyone go when/if they get the chance. Since I live near Houston as soon as anyone learned that they wanted to talk about Yao. Food was interesting, only so many ways you can have duck tounge. Bars are open 24/7. Pollution is horrible 24/7. Everyone wants to stop you and practice their english with you. Many also want pictures with the "tall/big/strong" man. Pics to follow.

Nice! Your journey reminds of this book, perhaps a bit dated now:

Hope you guys are well.

won't last too long. Saban will bring in the talent needed to win in the SECgrinder conference. Look at talent he brought to LSU, ask les Miles about that talent, he piggy backed it to a Title.

Hey ya gotta take the gloating while the gloating is good. He's going to enjoy Bama being down while he can, like you I doubt it will be that long.

As far as "institutional control" goes I hope the NCAA nuts-up and doesn't just turn a blind-eye. Saying there is no way of knowing these kids are on the take is BS. It isn't like the sudden affluence is hidden well or that it isn't somebody's job to look for this stuff. I seriously doubt the coaches were oblivious either.

Not a Bama hater at all. Just excited to see guys from the lower levels getting a shot instead of the thrid string guy at some of the majors. Also not much of a Saban fan after he ran Major out of town. Got to know Major a little during his year at RICE and have always pulled for the guy.

I don't know how you can go to a place like China and not learn about yourself at the same time. China far exceeded my expectations and most of that was the people.

Indy,

What areas/citites? I will be happy to set you up with local or ex-pat bars in many locations.

Sam,

I guess it wasn't so much Nick as it was Nick not putting Pendry in his place. Pendry undermined Major and apparently didn't like that his boss wasn't born when Pendry started coaching. Funny thing though Pendry didn't get the OC job either after Major left.

Does Taiwan come close enough? Went there on a business field trip in 1995. Nice little island, I guess. Nothing much remarkable to speak of, the main thing I remember is the locals taking us out to some bar and trying to get us drunk as skunks on whatever horse piss passes for beer there. The label may say Budweiser, but trust me, that's not Budweiser.

I could have done w/o the 13 hour flight over crammed into coach like so many sardines in the hold of a 747. At least the company we were there visiting sprung for business class on the way back.

Landing back on American soil was the highlight of the trip. Felt like kissing the dirt outside LAX. Don't think I ever want to go back.

Nanjing, just west of Shanghai. Spent some time there. Very industry focused and hey it is smaller for a Chinese city with a population about that of NYC.

I can mail you some of our city maps with bars/food marked on them if you want. I would also suggest taking the train into Shanghai if you get some free time.

Careful of this guy, Lax. If you get a sudden whiff of Bud Light or urine, clench those buttocks quick.

I wonder if Reggie and his cronies are intelligent enough to have learned anything from the blueprint on how NOT to do things that Roger Clemens has laid out.

I hear everyone bitching about USC. Fair enough.

But are you willing to sack upand join a boycott of USC, or all D1 football broadcasts to show your feelings on the matter and force the NCAA's hand?

Are you willing to set up/join/support a website/organization that publicizes a USC boycott?

Are you willing to leave your team's own building empty if USC comes to town?

The NCAA is all about making money. It's obvious they've decided it is in their better financial interest to sweep USC's complete disregard for the rules under the rug.

Well, guess what... the NCAA doesn't decide how much money comes into their organization and where it comes from...

YOU DO.

Are you willing to put your love of CFB where your mouth is?

If not... shut up.

Remember the Golden Rule -- The Man With The Gold makes the rules. You, as a CFB fan, are the Man With The Gold. This is on YOU, not Myles Brand or anyone else. He doesn't provide the revenue -- YOU DO.

Cut off that revenue stream, and your Gold will make the rules... it really is that simple. Not to get too political, but it's yet another case of the free market being able to do something many times better than the government ever could... you're just too fucking lazy, or don't want to be inconvenienced by missing a cool game on the tube, so you want some men in a marble palace to do your thinking and achieve your goals for you.

It really is that simple.

Sure I will support a boycott of U$C. But I see no way that boycotting the RICE v Houston game will somehow help the NCAA or U$C get the message.

That is the dumbest thing that I have ever heard. USC fans aren't exactly the kind of fans who will follow a LOSING team, if you know what I mean, sure, but your argument is, because USC makes money, they shouldn't be punished; they WON'T be punished; they CAN'T be punished? What are you saying?

USC needs to get the dicks in a row. If this crap had happened at OU, with some "maybe" booster, or "friend of an agent" or whatever buying AD's family a house... the NCAA would be parked on the front stoop of the Switzer Center and ESPN would have cameras hidden in the freaking toliets. If there's favortism going to due to the almighty dollar, then that's even MORE of a reason for the NCAA to step up, blast on USC for lack of institutional control, and finally get something right...

Most schools go the Giambi route, and get punished and talked about for a while... USC has gone the Clemens route, and not only have they avoided punishment... they've avoided scrutiny. What the shit is that? Does USC's AD have pics of Myles Brand with a donkey or something?
