Comcast and BTN reach deal

Finally.

I had DirecTV last college football season, so I didn't miss anything. I moved and ended up ditching the dish for Comcast, and was worried I'd have to do the bar thing for certain games. Excellent timing.

You're in Texas, right? If so, the Comcast-BTN deal potentially has no impact on you anyway.
Outside of the [Big Ten] region, Comcast has the option to not offer the channel at all, or to put it on its sports and entertainment package or other tiers of service.

I'm actually watching the BTN now - watching Juice Williams punch through OSU for the first Illini win over a #1 team since 1956. That's a good thing...but mostly, the channel is full of dreck. Most of the big conference football games are on other channels. By and large, the announcers for the network's game are extremely subpar. The analysis shows are generally awful. If you don't get the BTN, you're not missing a lot...but it's certainly no worse than the other 175 channels on the dial.

For the one or two games a year where you'd miss out on your team...that's where it's worth it.

The App State was on BTN last year...you think I really missed not having it on my cable?

I'm probably switching to the dish before football season anyway so I was going to have it in some capacity.

I'm with PSUFAN on this one. The BTN is overall very lame. When I moved to Kansas City, I got DirecTV simply because of the BTN. But I never watch the programming on it. NFL Network is much better. I'll probably only watch BTN when the Hawkeyes are playing during basketball season. I'll be going to most of the home games and I've already got plans for 2 of the road games for football and I would imagine I will end up going to a sports bar to catch the football games I'm not at. However, during hoops season is the main reason I got DirecTV because I'll need the BTN for Iowa basketball games......and most are on the BTN. But unless Iowa is playing I never really find myself watching anything on that network.

The cable companies are getting ripped off by the BTN. The Big Ten should be ashamed at what they're asking for from the cable companies. Their programming is lame. I'm sorry, but I could give a fuck about the Olympic Sports and women's sports. It pisses me off that I have to get DirecTV just because of this too. Would have preferred Time Warner Cable, but I'm not missing Iowa games so those sumbitches forced my hand. Fuck them! DirecTV is annoying. We've had storms just about everyday the last month and my satellite goes out all the time. Fuck you Jim Delaney!

There's no reason for debating any of that. BTN's lame coverage is old news. I just want to be able to catch as many MSU games as possible. Unfortunately, there's some reliance on the BTN for that.

Much more of an issue for the basketball season. I believe that about 2/3 of Wisconsin's Big 10 BBall schedule was on BTN.
