So it seems that NAACP and other prominent minority leaders don't think it is necessary for Obama to include minorities on his team.

Not really, is the answer supplied by a group of prominent African-Americans. Having a team of varied faces is preferable and in keeping with Obama’s pledge to represent all Americans — but these veteran black politicians and public officials say the president-elect should tap into the best talent available without taking a head-counting approach, in which slots are determined by demographics and symbolism trumps substance.

So now that their guy is in the White House quotas and diversity are out the window? Are they just saying this hoping that Obama appoints a ton of minorities anyway?

Actually I am all for this. Let's end this crap about quotas and race etc, and go with the best talent available all the time. Glad to see the NAACP finally getting on board. Race should no longer be a factor in school admissions, hiring decisions, or appointments. Now every candidate is graded on their resume, not on their resume against only their race.

I recommend, keeping the nitpickery to a minimum. Splitting hairs and nipping at his heels has the potential to drown out and detract from the appropriate criticisms and opposition to his policies that really do impact our lives - if/when they do.

Don't lower yourself.

"Our" guy in that he is the President of the US, and I am a citizen.

"Their" guy in that he is a black man that they see furthering their agenda.

Further, this isn't a take on Obama so much as it is a take on the likes of the NAACP. We can't judge Obama on his appointments now, before they have been made. We can however, call out this group of "prominent African-Americans" for their double standards.

Like I was saying earlier...Obama might be a better friend to those tired of PC demagoguery than he might casually appear to be.

For those who regard him as their personal savior and provider, he will represent a learning experience, as they begin to understand why it is impossible for him to be those things.

Obama wants to get things done. He will have to use the best qualified people in order to do that.

If Obama is prepared to...and indeed must operate in this way, then many will be forced to understand why.

Jesse was just upset because he knows that Obama being elected has marginalized him right out the fucking door....people will pay even less attention to Jackson than they already did (if that's possible)...same with Al Sharpton
