This is why the stimulus ain't working

I wasn't aware that preserving the status quo on government spending was the rationale for ramming through a massive government spending program. Maybe I missed this in Obama's promises to create or save millions of jobs. More likely, as we're finding out now...the so-called stimulus never intended to create or save jobs, but to fill budget holes and reward Democratic constituency groups.

How about sawbucks for the senile.

That should keep you in cheap

You forgot to to say Republican right wing conservative men. You intimate that possibly your beloved Democratic party could be to blame for some of the problems. Come correct.

Well if "It's been acting like a crutch to keep state budgets and payrolls from imploding tumbling." and that's working, then the stimulus is working.

Part of what we were sold was that it was going to help rebuild "infrastructure" which requires states paying their employees and contractors to.... rebuild. Had they not had the budget and money to do that those folks would be out of work.

One perspective might be, thank God they did it, things could be a whole lot worse for wear. Kind of like the millenium bug. Everyone laughed when nothing happened and thought it was all hype. But because of the hype a lot of money was spent and work done to prepare and make sure nothing would happen.

People like to be cynics because they think it's cool. It is a defense mechanism.

State budgets continue to implode. See Cali, Michigan, etc.

Another perspective is we're talking, at best, a temporary jobs program. What happens when the lane-resurfacing project on I-75 northbound in Oakland County, MI is completed? What happens when some backwoods rural airport is completed? Even then, the amount of $$ spent so far on actual infrastructure projects pales in comparison to the $$ disbursed to the states and lefty special interest groups.

Valid points JMak, and I wasn't singling you or anyone for that matter, in my cynical statement about cynics.

I'm more or less splitting hairs with the author. To say it isn't working then to cite that it is doing what (I understood) was intended didn't make sense.

Standard response to any one who has an opinion, that is contrary to Comrade Smack's, which is to continue to suck on the gubmint tit, as socialism continues is goose stepping march to overthrow a formerly freely elected gubmint and replace it with a pandering, cradle to grave entitlement program.

Trouble is after you finish nationalizing all the evil big business's and they stop paying taxes...where you going to get your hand out, clunker cash, freeloading low life lucky bucks from ?

More like 9.4% as of today, but hey, don't let the facts get in YOUR way.

And it was 247,000 last month. Can you say "dumbfuck"?

Rightttt...the gubmint says it is this number, so you just purse your lips on the "facts" contained on head of the gubmint dick and continue your power sucking until the gubmint drives another load of gubmint "facts" jizz down your pie hole.

Do you honestly think that is even close to the real number ?? The government is going to tell you what ever it wants to , and you swallow that with a smile. After all, they would NEVERlie to you....

OK, mensa, what ARE the numbers?

Or is your head too tightly wrapped in tin foil for any actual information to seep in?

(be careful where you look though, you know they're watching you)

And why do you care anyway? I think most people here agree that if you're unemployed it's your own fault.

How the fuck would I know ?? I will just pull a number out of my ass and says that is the number. The gubmint numbers went down because the numbers are tracked for less than a year, and the poor bastards who run out of unemployment are not counted any more maybe ?

That would account for the "downturn" in unemployed.....

And why do you care anyway? I think most people here agree that if you're unemployed it's your own fault.

The employees I recently laid off had no fault at all...the market segment we worked in completely collapsed..and we had to contract the company to ride it out hopefully..It was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do as an employer, and it was not their fault..mine to some extent...more a victim of the times..

You really are the fucking idiot you make yourself out to be. It is their fault because they worked a drone job to support a family and one day management busted a cap into them ?

it is their fault because a segment of the economy contracted and their business and job went away ? Riggghtttt..you fucking idiot...

Derron,

Did you have to lay off EVERY employee? If not, I assume you kept the best workers, no? Conclusion: Be a top performer.

In a lot of cases it's only seniority that counts.

In either case I suppose you could just kill anybody above you on the pecking order.
If you don't then you're not trying hard enough and who's fault is that?

Aside from fantasyland... :meds:

If you are a top performer and get laid off, you should have no problem getting a job. Will you have to "start over" or "swallow your pride and take a lesser job"? Maybe. I could find an equivalent job within a month. I may have to make a move, which I would prefer not to, but I could do it. Anyone can. Those who say they can't just won't.

You both are being dishonest.

Mikey because I know for a fact that depending on how the numbers work he will cry about so-called discouraged workers that are out of work yet not counted among the unemployed because of the methods used to count the unemployed.

Derron because while he'll rely on official unemployment data when it suits him, he'll question the validity of that data when it doesn't suit him.

Look, the DoL unemployment numbers are legit in that they measure precisely what they're intended to measure. The problem is the dishonest hacks will ignore the well-known and obvious shortcomings of the counting methods to argue x or z or whatever.

Fact - unemployment is higher despite Obama's incessant promises and it's higher than the CBO projected it would be without any government "stimulus" action.
