it's interesting how many people you meet who claim to be "big" Syd fans....are really just DSOM or the Wall fans of the diamond that shines on crazy or was being wished they were there...or worse, the David Gilmour="such a great guitar player" Floyd fans.

so, you like Opal?

never heard of them.

I like that tune Octopus and No Good Trying.....

huh?

nothing against DSOM and Gilmour is OK, I guess.

and i've got a bike and you can do what you like....

Don't compare DSOM to Opel. It's Apples and Oranges.

i'm not, but a comparison between apples and oranges is a *comparison* of unlike qualities in the Hegelian sense and not one of *like* quanitity....not a comparison of moronistry in the sense that one is *awesome* and the other is *the name of another group*?

like i said, i've got a bike...you can do what you like.

his name is gerald.

not really, but enough to know that the Decembrists are stealing the Kurt Weill and Brecht vs. the opera thing. and at least i can spell Weill if not Glimour. and i know about Brecht and what he was trying to do with a theory of theatre.....like the DC's do with "the Sporting Life"....because that is Brecht, possibly.

i'm not a huge fan of the DC's but i appreciate what they are trying to do, in some ways.

Probably enough to want some Candy and a Currant Bun. But not enough to turn him into Vegetable Man.

Being one of those Wall fans, not only did I not get the apples and oranges bit, I'm still trying to figure out wtf DSOM is.

Can somebody hook a "wall fan" up?

I take it, they're some floyd cover band.

Dark Side Of The Moon.

I like the Barrett era...and I like The Wall...

Everything in between is self-indulgent, masturbatory drivel.

^^^^^^^^^

When people say that 70's music sucks and that the 70's were a low point in musical creativity ( a point that is both broad and categorically false) I have a hard time refuting their argument when this is used as evidence.

C'mon. It's not even a good jam.

At this point in history, a musical revolution was taking place (punk, reggae, experimental). Pink Floyd was just babysitting bong-rip burnouts. Nothing pushing the envelope. No chances being taken. No thinking outside the box.

Pure convention.

Apples and Oranges (Syd Barret era Floyd Single)
Same for Vegetable Man and Candy and a Currant Bun (which was the B-side to either Arnold Layne or See Emily Play)
DSOM= Dark Side of the Moon.

Who says that? Obviously, they're dumbfucks.

Maybe not to you, but I like it. A bunch.

I guess I don't get how you could say you like Dark Side and The Wall and not like either WYWH or Animals. That doesn't even make since. Imo, The Wall is the weakest of the 4. Not that it sucks, but it doesn't even come close to approaching the prior 3.

Wha... :?

I don't know how old you are Marty, but when Animals came out I was 15 and it blew me away.

Punk? Reggae? Experimental? Are you fucking kidding me? You're trying to compare Floyd to that?

fukk, I must be getting senile. Not sure how I missed DSOM.

Even though I am a "wall fan", I do prefer DSOM. One of the best albums ever made, IMO.

Certainly one of the best selling and popular albums of all time. It's sold 45 million copies and stayed near the top of the Billboard charts for an unprecedented 12 years.

I never said I liked DSOM. Technically, it is intriguing, and it is a marvel of studio fuckery for it's time.

War Wagon wrote: Imo, The Wall is the weakest of the 4. Not that it sucks, but it doesn't even come close to approaching the prior 3.
Sadly, most Pink Floyd fans are too stupid to realise that The Wall was Floyd's (and Waters, personally) Magnum Opus.
It's far too cerebral...too personal...for most "light-show stoners" and Bic lighter waving, stadium-rock yahoos.

Animals, WYWH, DSOM...is rote noodling. Big on flash, weak on actual emotion, which is the essence of any "good music".

So if I went to a Pink Floyd show, would there be a reserved section for fans smoking pipes, peering through monacles and scratching their heads? On the Capital Records 6000 series, it says 'file under teen groups'.

I think they're pretty shit all round, but 'Lucifer Sam' is a good song. Shame they ripped the riff off Dave Clark Five.

hahaha... check out the big head on music critic Marty.

The Wall too cerebral? If you're an MGMT fan, I guess.

That's rich, especially considering their earlier work.

Stop trolling me.

First, Animals is BY FAR Floyd's best album... BY FAR.

Second, I have to give Phibes some limited props for leaving the word "bourgeois" out of his response -- occasionally, he suprises me.

Floyd, to me, is the first two albums - EOS.

Slow day at the office, I enjoy those songs. Figured maybe some other folks will as well. I'm being an anarchist. Doing what I want.

Did I break a rule of the the forum ? If so let me know, I can only handle this anarchy thing one day a month.
