Another Old Peoples' Show

Just got great tickets for James Taylor and Carole King at the Hollywood Bowl on May 15. Yeah, these two are probably past their prime but they were great performers "in the day". The show is a week after my birthday. Saw Van Morrison on my birthday this year. It was actually one of the best performances in my admittedly now weak memory. This birthday thing could become a family tradition. At least for the few years I have left.

I agree about the ticket thing. Hell, the prices have gotten unreal, too.

I wish I could find all my old ticket stubs. They may turn up one day. But I'm almost positive I saw Led Zeppelin for $15. LED FUCKIN' ZEPPELIN! $15!

I know that's been a while, but the prices now just aren't justifiable.

I remember paying 15 to see The Police on their Synchronicity tour. That's just one of the reasons I was laughing so hard at the fools paying 250 a ticket or more to see the reunion tour. Screw that. For 70 dollars I was able to see The Decemberists with my wife a couple of months back. That's how I plan to roll.

Has Steely Dan made it down to San Diego? They were just here in DC. If their tickets weren't so fucking expensive (and they'd play Countdown to Ecstasy in its entirety), I'd have gone.

This is a very sore point with me.

I had tickets for them at a casino close to here, I think it was last summer. It was on a Thursday night, I had bought the tickets several months in advance, we had something else going on that night, and I completely forgot to go until about 9:00 p.m.

Figured by that time it was too late to crash the show. I've wanted to see them live since, oh around 197something. Was about ready to go around the house destroying things.

Sucks to get old and lose your memory.

Back to Michael's original post, one of the things I can't stand about today's music biz is buying tickets for shows that are six months away. Fuck that shit. Although I'm sure JT will be fun.

I have a couple Steely Dan boots from the mid 70s after Countdown was released that really hooked me. Skunk Baxter (DC native) was a big part of their early success. And yes, Sam, I agree on Can't Buy a Thrill. That was the first SD album I ever got into. It has Dirty Work on it, for pete's sake.

Any man left on the Rio Grande is the king of the world, as far as I know.

Unfortunately these days you have no choice but to buy tickets far in advance for popular acts, or pay huge markups at ticket agencies and get shitty seats. Even as it is, I was on line 30 minutes after tickets went on sale for this show and the best seats I could get were about half way back. Those "convenience" fees suck too.

I can remember paying $5.00 to see Sly and the Family Stone in 1970.

But if you think rock and roll shows are expensive, try the opera some time.

$50 gets front row seats and dinner before the show.

Never been to this place, or seen Tom Russell, before, but the acoustics here are supposed to be superb.
