the prison system in this country needs to change

Post by jtr »

With the exception of extreme case criminals, i.e, murderers, terrorists, and pedophiles, the majority of the people in prison are just sitting there taking up space and costing us millions to do so. We need to get these jabronis back into society and back to stimulating the economy. They should transform the prisons into rehab centers with a chance for freedom. A good portion of those in there are for one time offenses or spur of the moment reasons. Forcing them to rehab may be whats best for them. No one is born into violence and should be able to get back to the peaceful mindset of our youth. Drugs, alcohol, etc are all addictions which can be linked to mental needs and with proper rehab/guidance can be healed.

Fuck healing them. As long as they only hurt themselves, they shouldn't be in jail to begin with. If they want to get straight, that's their business.

the prisons are filled largely with people involved with drug trade, mostly on the sales end.

this is dumb.

i would lelgalize and tax the beejeezus out of all of it. a portion of the proceeds could go to rehab, but, i wouldn't waste it on chronic users. give them 2, maybe three strikes. after that, they're on their own. if they continue to use and be a burden on society, put'em against a wall and shoot them.

If you think legalizing drugs will eliminate illegal drug trade, you are dreaming. Do you plan on regulating the potency of the drugs? Will you place age restrictions on their use? If so, what age? If you tax the daylights out of them, you don't think it will spawn an underground black market trade? Furthermore, why would legalization stop the Mexican cartels, etc.? I'm sure they wouldn't mind paying the taxes.

Signed, illegal trade of legal prescription drugs, smuggling of untaxed cigarettes, and the moonshiners.

Really? Seen any street corner liquor dealers hustling moonshine lately?

Yes, yes and 21 sounds about right.

This is a legitimate point. Excessive taxation does lead to black market traffic.

Excessive taxation was essentially what got marijuana outlawed. It was a prohibitive tax, first used on the sale of machine guns.

I agree with what has been said here. And, to help it along, I am willing to receive from all here, any and all marijuana they may possess. I will expidite it's destruction, without any involvement of the law enforcement community. Purely anonymous.

Please send it to 4017 Delvin Drive, Tallahassee, Fla. 32309, c/o The Shrubber.

Also, no nasty bags of shake or leaf crap. Pure skunky buds only.

Thank you in advance.

what ^^^^ said.

we tax the beezeejus out of booze and smokes and there is not much of a black market to speak of, all though the way beyond bejeezus level of tobacco taxation in certain jurisdictions is changing this.

the messican cartel and others are involved because there is a huge profit margin solely because it's illegal. Make it legal. Have legitimate farmers grow it and they will grow it cheaper and the consistency will improve. There would be no reason at all to buy from the evil messicans as it can be grown vey well in most parts of the country. This would also likely get the hemp industry going again as well and it was a very important and useful cash crop before it was banned.

While I believe that weed should be legalized, I don't think it will happen in MOST of the country. Politicians, government bureaucracy (DEA), prisons and the police have been feasting at the trough of the War on Drugs for decades. The police are allowed to seize cash and property from suspected dealers without any proof or any conviction. While it makes complete and logical sense, I don't see it happening on a federal level nor in most of the country.

I do hope California sets the right example and votes yes on Prop 19. The black market for drugs in the U.S. is why Mexico is about to fall to narco-terrorists. The legalization of weed in the California would make a big dent in Mexico's war against the cartels.

you are correct about the "war on drugs" industry. it does keep one hell of a lot of cops/narcs/prison guards in some damn well paying jobs.

despite this, i think folks are still ready to pull the plug on the entire mess.

it's simply a matter of money. incase you didn't get the memo, gubmint is flat broke on all levels. actually, they were flat broke 30 years ago. we are now moer along the lines of so in debt, nobody will loan us anything anymore.

a lot of cutting needs to be done and this is one big ass chunk of money that can be saved and IMO, society will be better off overall. the number of users will increase some, but, the problems with existing users/dealers will decrease.

Smack, you're forgetting that facts and logic and rational thinking don't matter to a lot of voters like trev and wolftard, who just think "oooh, evil marijuana. I'm voting no."

Also remember the alcohol lobby is 100% against the legalization of weed.

I don't want marijuana legalized because I think that shit smells like balls and this country will end up being even fatter and lazier than it already is.

Could see the Frito-Lay corporation become even wealthier, however.

I actually don't want it legalized mostly because people that do get all offended and it's funny to see them melt down. Case in point......your response.

Look, I don't want the shit legalized because I don't wanna be around the shit all the time. It smells like fucking balls and people that are stoned are annoying as shit. I'd rather be around someone drunk than stoned. At least they can be kinda funny. Potheads are just fucking annoying.

Plus, I think you're underestimating the negative effects it could have on society. Aren't there enough fat and lazy people in this country? How much fatter can people get? Don't give me this "oh, I do it and I'm not fat and lazy" crap. There's always the rare exception. I know, I know.....there are doctors, lawyers, mensas, etc that smoke the hippie lettucs. Yeah, well I can name 80 fat, lazy bums that will never amount to shit in life for every 1 successful toker.

I said they annoy me more.

Besides, alcohol doesn't lead to violent crimes. Stupid people that can't handle alcohol leads to violent crimes. If you're going to play the "personal responsibility" card, it must apply here too or do you have a double standard like a typical liberal?
