So, in the last couple of weeks, current and former big men for the Blazers:
Lost the gubernatorial election (Chris Dudley)
Came down with a bum ticker and showed up at gametime to announce his retirement (Fabricio Oberto)
Died (Maurice Lucas)
And in the fine tradition of Sam Bowie and Bill Walton, blew up his legs once again (Greg Oden, knee surgery #3 in less than 4 years)
Marcus Camby should be VERY afraid right now.
Makes it tough to sign any free agent over 6'8" -- they're doomed.

Do you still maintain that you prefer Oden to Durant or have you changed your tune?

Didn't need Durant with Roy on board (neither one plays a lick of defense).
But since BRoy has two bum knees and now claims he's washed up, I'd go with Durant at this point.

Bummer about Oden. I haven't followed that closely but I hear that he's a player who is dedicated to his craft and has a good work ethic. Doesn't deserve this kind of luck when there are so many assholes in the NBA cruising through their careers with no major injury time.

Down. Blowed up knee. 5th Blazer to have knee surgery in the last 3 months.
As far as Oden/Durant -- with 20/20 hindsight, I'd take Horford over either of them. Still got gunslingers aplenty, can't keep a big on the floor to save our lives.
Even though his contract is up, sounds like Greggy gets one more year to shit or get off the pot. They've already said they'll throw a qualifying offer for a one-year deal at him come July, and I doubt any other team will beat the $8.9 mil, which is the minimum QO for his contract structure, so he'll be back. I'm guessing that he doesn't have to be an All-Star, but probably needs to play in at least 60 games if he wants another offer after that one.

Re: The Curse lives on
So, if we were to somehow get a one year reprieve from The Curse, next year's starting lineup could be:
C- Marcus Camby
PF - LaMarcus Aldridge
SF - Gerald Wallace
SG - Brandon Roy
PG - Andre Miller
I'm sure some faces will change over the summer (new CBA and whatnot). But if that's the lineup, it would mean an All Star at every position at ever position with the exception of the 4, which many people (nationally, not just homers) consider one of the great snubs in All Star history.
Then a bench consisting of:
C- Greg Oden
PF - TBD, possibly Nic Batum
SF/SG - Rudy Fernandez/ Wesley Matthews
PG - Patty Mills
BUT... The Curse will see to it that it doesn't happen. Oden exemplifies The Curse, Marcus Camby is continuing his long-time role as a behind-the-scenes whiner, BRoy is a gimp at 26, and Dre Miller is long-in-the-tooth (although in excellent shape for his years).
BUT... it could be the nastiest starting 5 in the NBA. Some serious defensive firepower, and some starting-quality players in the second unit.
Hey, a guy can dream, can't he?
