Back in the day, Ali WAS hero like to many younger folk (me included). We loved the showmanship AND the skills. It was cool to protest anything Viet Nam back then so Ali not wanting to serve was widely justifiable. He was a tall, good looking, and made people laugh.

Joe Frazier was this tough, ugly, bullish pug from Philly. Spoke like a punchy fighter and just went about winning.

Cassius Clay was one of the early pioneers that helped bring down sportsmanship. He made it cool to ridicule lesser opponents, and everyone sucked it up.

He got wealthy off whitey, then hung out with the anti-whitey nation of islam gang and proclaimed himself a muslim to avoid serving the country. Called Frazier an Uncle Tom just to antagonize while collecting his millions.

It is easy to look back now and realize Clay was a POS. Once he became shake 'n bake, and couldn't do shit, he became this nice old guy that gave to charities and did children's tricks.

But he was entertaining. And some of his children were fuckable.

You know, in the right lighting, Sandusky looks a little like Ron Paul.

Absolutely, which is just one of the reasons I never liked the guy and always rooted for his opponent.

In Frazier's case, Ali was a 100% dirtbag. When he needed money or a place to stay during his time away from boxing, he went to Joe Frazier. The guy was always there for him, quietly doing whatever he could. Once the spotlights were shining bright again, Ali flat-out betrayed him.

I'm glad that Joe never truly forgave him.

Good point about Ali's antics being the beginning of the end for sportsmanship.

Until that time, braggards were looked at as shit. Now they are celebrated.

Okay, since we're talking about a guy who died of liver cancer—likely due in large part to a life of hard drinking—let us honor the occasion with a solemn spiritual hymn apropos of his passing...
