Dylan Ratigan Rant
Abandon a bought Congress? Can it be done w/o a revolution?
Re: Dylan Ratigan Rant
Whole lotta Tea Party in that rant, Smackie.
Unfortunately, Dylan's message to the President to take the Word to the people just won't work. Half the country tuned him out a year ago... And the other half believe he is just as culpable for this mess as Congress. Ever'body gotta go, Smacks.

Re: Dylan Ratigan Rant
Sounded like a Tea Party type of message. I've never heard of Ratigan and don't watch MSNBC or any other news channel. Just thought the message and tone in which it was delivered was intended to incite a revolt, even if the leader of the revolt is suggested to be the President.Truman wrote:Whole lotta Tea Party in that rant, Smackie.

To your point about the country's attitude toward Obama, I'd have thought the same thing if all the info I was getting about it came from the media and my co-workers (DoD employees are notoriously conservative hawks, as might be imagined). And I know the DC/NoVA area is notoriously liberal. I've been to a few comedy shows out here (most comedians are lefties), and it seems invariably the comics will bring up Obama during their routines, soliciting responses from the crowd as to their attitude about him. At every show I've been to where that happens, the overwhelming response is positive. Could be cuz they're shitfaced, could be cuz they're DC libs. I just wonder how representative their attitudes are of other blue staters across the country. They don't seem to be as fed up with him here as is portrayed on a national level in the media, even when the coverage comes from sources considered to be left-leaning.
Re: Dylan Ratigan Rant
Tuned out isn't necessarily fed up. A president sniping with Congress... Has that ever changed in your lifetime? It's all white noise, and clicks and whistles to a whole lotta people right now, Smackie. A billion Chinese and half this country could give a rat's ass. Folks here are too busy watching reality shows and football to care.
In a futile effort, the President and his challenger will spend no less than a gazillion dollars to deliver their messages to the American voters from January to November. And three dozen ass-hatted pundits will gloss the election turn-out as heavy when a 130 million Americans cast their votes - Less than half the population of this country's electorate.
Nobody cares.[/Screwey]

Whoa! That was not included in this week's GOP Talking Points.88 wrote:He obviously does not have a clue how little power the President has over spending.

Re: Dylan Ratigan Rant
It's pretty simple, Smackie. It's because metro DC has been, relatively speaking, doing well during this recession. As you know, we are not suffering the crippling effects like the rest of our nation and our home states are suffering through. On the other hand, the recession has had absolutely devastating effects on much of the minority population (read: balcks) here. Unemployment is at an all-time high East of the River, including many residents of PG County. Construction has always been the blue collar job source for metro DC since we have little to no heavy industry here and not much has been built over the last four years. Much of the populace here still lives in the old school world of race-based politics. Where, as some astute poster here once pined, they support him because he's balck. Which is somewhat understandable, but also a problem.Smackie Chan wrote:I've been to a few comedy shows out here (most comedians are lefties), and it seems invariably the comics will bring up Obama during their routines, soliciting responses from the crowd as to their attitude about him. Also, I don't buy the meme that NOVA is some liberal mecca. The liberalism stops on the western border of Arlington County and there are a lot of GOPers who reside in AC who just aren't as vocal.

Oh yeah. Polk’s the bastard that wrested the U&L away from Britain. Prick. If it weren’t for Polk, Dinsdale and Dorron would be curtseying to the queen.smackaholic wrote:ftfyGoober McTuber wrote:It has in mine.
