Facebook facepalms

Post by H4ever »

Reading about the dude who made a threat on facebook to a gun shop owner and getting arrested for it reminded me of how dumb people are when it comes to "FB" 'ing.

Awhile back a female coworker requested time off for an upcoming weekend to attend an event. After her time off was denied due to staffing levels, she called in sick both days and attended the event anyway. The dumb part? Said female posted on her FB repeatedly that weekend about how good a time she was having at this event and included photos of herself swigging beer she uploaded from her phone. The "im a dumb bitch" part? several of her coworkers and superiors are her facebook friends. She was shit-canned, of course.

FB is huge source of information for law enforcement...especially when it comes to teenagers. Rack FB, I guess.

I have an employee on her second month of short term disability for a broken ankle. She's been posting on Facebook about her trips to the beach, etc. HR says there's nothing that can be done. I even called the disabilty department for our company and they said the same thing. I'd love nothing more than to fire her but it's not happening.

It's probably a risk/reward assessment. Yeah, she's milking the shit out of her short term disability, but it's not worth the lawsuit. Regardless of the reasons, firing someone while on disability will never play well in the media.

Long term? Well that's a different story. We had a family friend who was the president of the postal workers union in SF. He told us of some stories of defending some serious numbnuts who were caught behaving slight less disabled than their long-term or permanent disability claims would indicate. A personal favorite was when one of his members who was on permanent disability for his back condition was caught........on video......in a club in Vegas...... dancing.......... in high heels.

Let that sink in for a sec.

I asked what he did for the guy. "What the fuck could I do? All I could do is prove that the type of dancing he was doing wouldn't affect his condition" From all accounts, in the hearing he got up and mimicked the dancing the drag queen was doing on camera to show the range of motion didn't require much movement from his lower back. He then took things a step further and showed what moves he COULD have done that would hurt his lower back. My aunt, who was working for him at the time, said the only thing more hilarious than that scene was the fact that it worked.

Point being, if you can't bust a guy who says a mailbag crippled him for fag-draging it up in a nightclub, firing someone who is milking a bum ankle for a couple more weeks isn't worth it.
