Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I'm thinking about getting a custom-made suit and was wondering if any of you lowbrow, shit-eating, blue-collar fucktards might be able to suggest how to find a good tailor and quite possibly what a good price range for one would be. I've heard a custom suit can run between $600-800.

There is an age old adage. The best suit is the one that needs the least ammount of work done to it.88 wrote:That's what I've been doing for 25 years. Works just fine.Jsc810 wrote:What's wrong with getting a suit off the rack and then getting it fitted?
If you can get a suit off the rack that needs nothing more than a pant hem, more power to you. My body type is not one of those typically. If you are having to spend a bunch of money in alterations to make a suit fit you, custom fitting is something worth looking into cost wise. Not only are you getting a better fit(if you salesperson or tailor knows what the fuck they are doing), but you have more options on styles and fabrics.
If you are looking for a wide selection of styles and swatches at a resonable price, go to a department store that stocks Joseph Abboud and ask about their made to measure program.

Just go to the Mens Wearhouse and they tailor them for you. I've had custom suits made before and paid a lot more for the same fabric.

Sorry. I felt like I was on Facebook for a second there, where I respond to the most mind numbing fashion and clothing questions from family members. They don't seem to grasp that just because I'm "in the business", that doesn't mean I know what you can wear with your acid wash Bugle Boys from 1987 and not look like a transient or a pedophile. My brother is/was the worst. Asking me about every minute detail about what to wear to work, paranoid about putting his best foot forward at all times. He finally left me alone when I told him "You are a fucking accountant in the patchouli district of Berkley. The fact that you bathe daily and wake up next to a woman places you miles ahead of your peers in terms of decision making and social aptitude. Just remember to wear pants and sky's the limit at your job"Van wrote:R-Jack being completely serious and talking shop is sort of frightening, in an end-of-the-world-is-nigh kinda way.
Anyway, since I'm giving Van the heebe-jeebes, I'll veer off track and show a clip of what Screw is looking to accomplish with this thread.
Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
I wear blue jeans and polo shirts to the office.
The most expensive part of my wardrobe is my shoes. Reeboks cost about $70.00 but I got the second pair at 1/2 price.
I've got a bunch of ties and a couple of suits, but they're mostly for weddings and funerals.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
If you're a mod, get a custom suit. If you're wedded to a particular style, get one made. Odds are, if you need a new one and time is tight, current fashion in cuts will dictate that you look like a complete idiot and nothing else will be easy to find.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
Couple of suggestion from someone who wears a lot of suits for both the hockey and flying jobs.
First a few questions you need to ask your self: Is this a twice a year thing for weddings and funerals, etc. is this an interview type of suit? Will I need to travel with this suit? Is this the start of multiple suits for future use?
Clearly this isn't for a funeral since a custom suit would be tough on that timeline. But if you are looking for just the occasional suit, I suggest Men's Wharehouse. Basic suits at a fair price. If you start wearing it multiple times a month though they are not as durable as others.
If this is an interview suit or the start of a work wardrobe, I suggest Jos A Banks. Wait for one of their buy 1 get 1 or 2 free sales. Better quality, and it will last longer if used frequently.
If you really want custom then look for a men's store in your area. I used Texas Clothiers in Austin. Better than any of the nation chain stores, and monogram shirts for free, keep your stuff on file so as you don't have to go back in, etc. Slightly more that Jos A Banks cost wise, but no buy one get one type deals.
if you can't find a store like that, then talk to your dry cleaner. They likely have someone who does their alterations and that person could likely custom make a suit for you. Another suggestion is your local Chinatown. Just walk the streets and you will find plenty of tailor shops.

smackie, I wasn't referring to his misspelling of 'separate.' I was referring to his sudden morphing into Frosted Tips Fashion Guy, which I find utterly gut-wrenching from our resident poster child for raw meat, Raiders football, drum-banging sessions in the woods with his bros, and hyper-manly "Joe Dirt" howling wolf garb.
Where is that guy? Surely such a stalwart specimin of Red State masculine pulchritude would never harbor much less willingly offer up a heartfelt opinion on the fabulous notion of mixing and matching to-die-for separates.
Oh fuck no. My R-Jack...your R-Jack...our R-Jack would clobber such a tinkerbell in the grape satchel with a rusty tire iron.

Re: Where's the menswear forum up in this bitch?
Thanks for the suggestion. I looked up a men's store (more specifically a clothier) that is close to the Press Club downtown and they do made to measure shirts by Individualized Shirts. I will inquire with them about a shirt. Probably will start out with a MTM shirt before jumping into the deep end with a MTM suit. Also thanks to R-Jerk for the suggestion with Joseph Abboud.Left Seater wrote:If you really want custom then look for a men's store in your area. I used Texas Clothiers in Austin. I have another question. Do you think it is late enough in winter for overcoats to be on sale? I have to dress up 2.5 times per week and I would really like to get an overcoat when it is on sale.

Screw, maybe not so much in DC or the northeast or Midwest yet, but prolly in the south. Try one on at your local store and get the size length and make you want and write it down. Then look online at regional chains in the south. Chances are you can pick one up at a good price.

Who? Imus? You've pinned that one on five different guys you sloppy drunk. I know you pinning five guys is a bit of a role reversal for you, but it doesn’t help your case here.Atomic Punk wrote:You know... that shit troll. You're very lazy anyway.R-Jack wrote:What?
Here's a tip you horrifically stupid individual. When you want to out a troll, try not to accuse the last person who smacked you in the thread that you saw the troll. It's patently obvious that said poster didn't need to change nics to tell you how they felt in the first place.
Now for a bonus tip; if you are going to back down from the challenge of common fucking sense and accuse the last smacker of running the troll, try only doing it once. No matter what you don't know what the hell you're talking about, but doing it every time will never get you the accuracy level of a monkey throwing feces that you so desire.
So you gonna wait for Imus to pop up you can “out” percision of the nic above with the dartboard accuracy of Jason Pierre Paul's dad, or are you going to actually contribute something tangible to shit thread, like telling Screw what type of faggoty cufflinks go perfect with lace granny panties. He’s dying to know.

Sounds like the fatter version of R-Jacked is a bit defensive. Snacking on the wife's oats? Why do you hate yourself and your life? I've merely stated you run a shit troll. Of course I can't prove it but the style and timings of posts suggest it's someone in the know... Fess up to who owns it and I'll drop it. Do you like having the shit trolls here ruining this board? There is a reason TNW was started back in the day.
I miss some of those guys, especially ML@Coyote. However, that board sunk and now this is all we have. Good for you.
Let me ask you this, how many trolls do I have? I think my Dinstale and OTST trolls were the only ones I've had here and that was years ago. Go ahead and take your time.
I give MgBl0w shit non-stop. However he, 88, Jsc, and SS have kick ass PET threads. Those are about the only things that entertain me here anymore other than the U&L threads from our beloved Oregon posters.
What do you do? You don't do shit but suck horse balls. I'm still not sure how your wife was able to fuck herself to give you a kid with her horse cock. Divine intervention?

First off I buy long ties. I alway tie a full Windsor knot and that along with my 17.5 neck size and height means the extra length is needed. As long as the bottom of the tie reaches the belt while I am standing the length is acceptable. I go with the medium width ties. Some of the Euros on our team sport the narrow width 1 inch wide ties and think they are cutting edge. A few others go with the crazy wide ones just to be different.

another place to search for nice duds. The salvation army store.
There is a lot of shit on those racks, but, mixed in are very high end dress shirts (2-5 bucks) lots of good overcoats and suits. Finding a close to fitting suit might be a bit of a challenge and take a while, but, I promise you I could stop there on the wasy home and find a half dozen good quality like new shirts.
Remember, people with money don't wear such stuff till it's worn out. They drop it off at the SA store and get their tax write off. I have quite a few nice casual and dress shirts that I bought there for a small fraction of what people pay for a shirt at wallyworld. If it's really nice and has the right brand, the OL intercepts it and pimps it on flea bay! Fine with me. The proceeds buy a dozen more.
