2013 Rose Bowl

I know I'm jumping the gun here, but consider this very plausible scenario:

Oregon beats Cal, Stanford and OSU, and wins the CCG and goes to the NCG
13-0, 9-0 (not counting CCG in conf record)

USC beats ASU and UCLA, and loses to ND, winning the Pac12 south, and then loses to Oregon in the CCG
8-5, 6-3

Stanford beats OSU and UCLA before losing to Oregon. Oregon wins Pac12 north
9-3, 7-2

OR

OSU beats Stanford, Cal and Nicholls St. ( ) but loses to Oregon.
10-2, 7-2

Does an 8-5 USC with three conference losses play in the Rose Bowl because they officially came in second in the conference over a 9-3 or 10-2 team with only two conference losses?

Is the Rose Bowl free to choose OSU or Stanford (or even a non Pac12 team) if they lose Oregon to the NCG?

I guess one requirement that I overlooked is that whichever team it is must be ranked in the top 14 to qualify.

When the playoffs begin in 2014, we'll have even weirder bowl matchups.
Cal could play in the NCG and the Rose Bowl?

Maybe I haven't looked very hard, since it wasn't an issue for my team last year, but I've yet to see an explaination of who gets the Grandaddy if the conference champ goes to the NCG.

I would think it would have to be the second best conference record, with some stupid tiebreaker system for the 7-2ers (or whatever).

Could end up being OS... that would be a hoot. They haven't been to one since Thomas Jefferson was president.

I believe the BCS bowls have the option to pick an at large (highest ranked) if one of the conference champions plays in the NCG.

I don't think they have to take the highest ranked.

Actually, they have to, if the at-large is above a certain ranking.

Like TCU.

But the Rose doesn't/can't if it's happened in the last 4 years... like with TCU. So it will be PAC12 vs B1G champ.
