I read that a couple of days ago. Didn't really see it as "crying," merely commentary on what was a dumb decision by the conference. They pointed out that last year's game at ASU had ~70K in attendance. If that game was at either team's home stadium (under the old system, it would have been in Eugene), it would have been packed (I would have gone).

I think Oregon fans were already thinking about saving their pennies to go to the Rose Bowl. It would have been a lot of dough to fly there (airfare, hotel, transportation, etc.), and as the article mentioned, from Eugene (much less the Lower Valley, where most of the fans live), driving would have been a nightmare. Driving there from Tuscon/Phoenix would have been quite a nightmare, as well -- not really a direct route from Point A to Point B (I've driven from Phoenix to the Bay Area, albeit via Reno). And there were storms, which can make driving problematic.

I hope they go back to the old system. I also remember a few years back when they actually paid people to go to the B1G Championship. They night consider having the top team host the game, as well.

In the SEC, it depends who is playing, but travel in many scenarios isn't too difficult for at least one of the fanbases (although Mizzou winning the East negates that to an extent).

PAC Country is way too spread out (same could be said of the B12 if they had a CCG) to have a centrally located CCG and expect many people to make it.

I'm all for Portland and Seattle forming their own states, so they can leave the rest of us alone.

I'm guessing Schmick has some thoughts on realignment south of here, as well.

Do PAC fans even travel to bowl games, though? I was under the impression the PAC had crappy bowl tie-ins because their fans can't fill hotel rooms. Which also explains why they tend to do well in bowls, they are playing inferior teams as a result.
