How have I not heard of this?
So, next September, Tennessee plays VT... at Bristol Speedway?
Supposed to be the biggest football crowd in history (because I guess Neyland isn't big enough?).
That sounds like about the best party ever.
Not too terribly far from either campus (although Bristol is in the middle of nowhere).
Awesome.

Shortest track that NASCAR runs with the second highest seating capacity, around 160,000.

"Filling" the stadium won't be a problem. How many tickets they sell is another matter.Mikey wrote:Think they'll fill it?

I drove through Bristol yesterday. Kinda funky, in that part of the city (the smaller "half") is in Virginia, the other part (including the track) is in Tennessee -- and it's not like KC or Augusta, where there's a river that forms the state line -- while there is a river (like just about every city), it doesn't form the border. And it's not terribly close to any major metro area -- I guess Knoxville is the closest, but it's still a good distance away. And I didn't realize that Blacksburg (which is a bit closer than Knoxville to Bristol) was out in the middle of nowhere, as well.
Sounds like a reality show waiting to happen -- Rednecks Gone Wild.
Should be awesome.
Tennessee fills their 107K seat stadium every game. Combine a 2 hour or so drive from Knoxville, ample camping, and about the only destination from Blacksburg that doesn't require driving all day... they'll be fighting over tickets.
That area is really pretty, too. Sure, Dueling Banjos is often heard in the background, but it's mighty scenic.

That's kind of bad ass.
Would like to see more of this in the future at similar venues. I don't have a horse in the race, but I'd travel to Bristol to see that game just to say I was there.
160,000+ hicks watching football in a NASCAR venue? It's like a mullet on steroids.

I think it won't just be hicks -- there should be a decent smattering of ghetto thugs from Knoxville, Nashville, etc.
Just the right "eclectic" mix to make some great stories.

Unfortunately for Missourians and KC in particular, The Mighty Mo takes a right turn just north of downtown KCMO. 2/3rds of the population lives south of this natural boundary, making jayhawk incursions much too easy. There really should be a toll that Kansans have to pay to enter Missouri... they can get 1/2 of it back when they return. They should have to buy a yearly pass or something and cameras should track their every move to & from.Dinsdale wrote:it's not like KC or Augusta, where there's a river that forms the state line -- while there is a river (like just about every city), it doesn't form the border.
Btw, if you're a Neckcar fan, of which I most decidedly am, Bristol Motor Speedway is on your bucket list right behind Talledega.
