This game is exactly the reason Herman doesn't get the Texas or LSU jobs. Cougar High is playing just like the team that beat OU to start the year. A totally different team than the one that lost to SMU.

Players don't need any help with motivation against an OU or a national TV game against Louisville, but SMU they need your help coach.

Sad to see so many empty seats in the 1st quarter, biggest game at Robertson this year.

Big props to Cougar High. They won't be in the playoff but they took Louisville out of it as well.

They have to be kicking themselves over the SMU game.

Kind of like how Georgetown lost at home to Arkansas St tonight in basketball. Of course all the players are going to get up for the Maryland game on Tuesday (second time playing in 23 years), but after getting kicked in the nuts at the last minute by the Terps, they need their coach to get them ready for the game. Of course, the Hoyas were trailing by 21 at the half.

Fuck Georgetown and fuck JT3.

Yeah not so much. I guess Texas was so desperate to get rid of Strong, they took him. I guess he can't do any worse than Strong did. Nice coaching search their Horns. Fire you coach and hire the replacement in 8 hours.

Herman may be the next Darryl Royal and, sure, he beat Oklahoma this year.....right now, today, i'm not shaking in my shoes for the hire. a guy playing "big shot" in the media night before his team is going on the road to a pretty decent Memphis team...seems iffy to me.

i watched the end of the UT-TCU game and outside Hager....the UT players were staying away from Charlie as they left the field. no hugs or all this paternal stuff we were hearing about. didn't see it. i don't know if they quit on him against TCU but kinda creepy. and they looked pretty bad in the 2nd half.

Turns out beating top 10 programs isn't a very good argument why a coach at Houston won't get a promotion.

Why not? If you're certain he's your guy, lock him up before someone else does.

Herman is wildly overrated due to his state of Texas coaching stock. I see a coach whose teams choke when the chips are down. Oh well, it's pretty fun to see Texas suck a big dick year after year. Almost as fun as seeing Michigan lose to its arch rival and its coach act like a fucking baby about officiating.

Herman is the reason Ohio State won the title in 2014. The Buckeye offense hasn't quite been the same since his departure. He turned freaking Houston into a top 15 caliber program, and ass blasted a few "blue blood" programs along the way. I wouldn't say he's overrated. That's just "hot take" fan speak. Time will tell what he can do at Tejas though.

Kevin Sumlin went 13-1 in 2011, finished #14. and we all know the Kevin Sumlin story. not saying one thing or another....just that 1. Houston has been pretty good for a decade (Art Briles did the heavy lifting there).....and 2. Herman's best season is nearly identical to one of his predecessors such that to say Herman "turned freaking Houston into a top 15 caliber program"....is over-statement and runs the risk of just being factually wrong.

i get that he did a great job at tOSU....and as you say, time will tell.

Herman beat more ranked teams in one season than Briles did his entire time at Houston, which was zero. But you're right that he and Sumlin helped build the foundation for future success there. But when you look at Herman's squads, he didn't do it with just one-dimensional popgun gimmickry on offense like so many non-power 5s. He brought an infusion of talent in on defense and built more complete teams.

All of which points to Herman's success in Austin, imo. Strong didn't exactly leave the cupboard bare. Charlie could recruit but he's a horrific runny shit as a head coach. Way too much confusion and general cluelessness on the field and on the sideline way too often. That's on him. I think Herman can tighten that up and run with it.
