I think she should be respected for these things, but she doesn’t make an issue of them in her article. She just states her opinions. Black males bear the brunt of police encounters because black males commit disproportionately more crimes. Police encounters with black men are so often confrontational because so many of these men, especially the young, don’t think “compliance” applies to them. They foolishly assume they are above the law and disrespect for police officers is an act of honor.

Is this true? Or are police encounters with blacks often confrontational because blacks feel they’re being singled out and treated worse? It’s probably a little of both.

I don't know much about this case. If the cops were in the right, my guess is that he was misinformed and making assumptions based on his prejudices. Or maybe he just interpreted the incident stupidly. He's never struck me as a particularly bright man. But I still don't think he has disdain for the law.
