Yea, no bias in her writing.Sylvia Thompson is a black conservative writer whose aim is to counter the liberal, leftist spin on issues pertaining to race and culture. Ms. Thompson is a copy editor by trade currently residing in Tennessee.

Finished it for you.She grew up in Southeast Texas during the waning years of Jim Crow-era legalized segregation, and she concludes that race relations in America will never improve, nor will we ever elevate our culture, as long as there are victims to be pandered to and villains to be vilified. America is better served without victims or villains.

Well, since the article posted was obviously an opinion, it's kind of lame to call it biased.

There is a big difference between a well written opinon piece that argues a bias using hard data and that pile of steaming shit. She's arguing because she old, black and survived Jim Crow that she should be listened to more than people who disagree with her. Not good enough.ML@Coyote wrote:Well, since the article posted was obviously an opinion, it's kind of lame to call it biased.

You said she was biased, and I said she obviously was because it was an opinion piece. That was the only point I was making.BSmack wrote:There is a big difference between a well written opinon piece that argues a bias using hard data and that pile of steaming shit. The contents of the article is another matter entirely.
Re: This woman has it figured out

Actually, I think you’re wrong about her. I don’t think she believes others have to listen to her just because she’s old, black, and survived Jim Crow. I think she should be respected for these things, but she doesn’t make an issue of them in her article. She just states her opinions. So…is her article a pile of steaming shit as you say, or does she have some important points to make. Here’s what I think. The following quotes are from her article:BSmack wrote:There is a big difference between a well written opinon piece that argues a bias using hard data and that pile of steaming shit. She's arguing because she old, black and survived Jim Crow that she should be listened to more than people who disagree with her. Not good enough.
She doesn’t like being told to think a certain way just because she’s black. I give her credit for this. She is claiming to be an independent thinker. Her main complaint seems to be that blacks are embracing victimhood.I have had it up to the gills with black people who embrace victimhood. I also highly resent my being expected to do the same in order to affirm my “blackness.”
Well, right off the bat she is defining blacks as victims of liberals. Isn’t she herself now embracing victimhood? Then she is saying that liberals are anti-American. I don’t agree with many liberals, but I don’t think they’re anti-American just because they disagree with me.Black victims these days, for the most part, are the product of decades of Black Americans being used primarily by white progressive leftists to advance an anti-American agenda.
I disagree with her. I don’t think these players were being “manipulated by the Left.” She doesn’t give her black brothers much credit for being able to think on their own. In fact, she berates them for not being “intelligent, thinking people.”One must assume these players and their guilt-conflicted white coaches and owners (and victimhood-inflicted black coaches) are being manipulated by the Left, because no intelligent, thinking people would deliberately cut themselves off at the knees.
If white players took a knee for whatever reason, would they all be fired from the team? I doubt it.I would wager that if these teams consisted of all white athletes, none of this idiocy would be allowed.
She is apparently against protesting. Protesting, whether you agree with the cause or not, is a form of freedom of speech. Protesting does not dishonor the nation. Protesting is as American as apple pie. I don’t care for it myself, but that’s just me.The twisted reasoning that claims these protests are to highlight “injustice” and “police brutality” is a laughable crock. What they do in fact is dishonor valued symbols of this nation’s heritage and cover over truth about black crime.
Is this true? Or are police encounters with blacks often confrontational because blacks feel they’re being singled out and treated worse? It’s probably a little of both.Black males bear the brunt of police encounters because black males commit disproportionately more crimes. Police encounters with black men are so often confrontational because so many of these men, especially the young, don’t think “compliance” applies to them. They foolishly assume they are above the law and disrespect for police officers is an act of honor.
I doubt Obama and Holder have disdain for law enforcement. They lack insight, but I don’t think they are in favor of criminal behavior. The NFL lot, and any other athletes taking a similar stance, are also influenced by Obama’s and Holder’s disdain for law and law enforcement.
This was kind of a dumb thing to say. Blacks are not perfect, but neither are the police.I am not familiar with one case where a black suspect to a crime was not proven legally to have caused the behavior against him
“Go live in another country” is not a good answer to give when people are trying to make their country better. It’s just a stupid thing to say.I suggest all the black players try a country in Africa, and see how successful they will be at making millions playing games. They will all soon learn what oppression really means.
Here she claims to be an independent thinker and lists problems she believes are the fault of the Left. I don’t believe she is all that “independent thinking.” She seems to be repeating a lot of conservative rhetoric rather than coming up with fresh ideas. But I do agree with her on one thing, that the NFL players who are taking knees ought to be taking real action to solve the problems they perceive, i.e. putting their money where their mouths are rather than just taking knees. Or maybe they already are doing something constructive. I don’t know if they are or not. Some self-directed, independent-thinking blacks (and there are many of us) have offered that if these millionaire protestors want to tackle some real problems, they might consider…
So…is the article a steaming pile of shit as you say? I think it brings up a lot of important issues and opinions, so in that way I think it’s useful. I guess what bothers me most about the article is that she complains that blacks should stop claiming to be victims while she herself complains about them being victims of the Left. Everyone here is pointing fingers. No one wants to say, “We’re responsible for who we are.”

"The police acted stupidly"-BHA
Is this not showing disdain for law enforcement?
Those cops were called to the residence because someone reported a possible break in. When the cops arrived, they had the nerve to confirm that they guy actually did live there and he acted like the chip on his shoulder asshole this woman is talking about, despite the fact that he was undoubtedly living the american dream himself. I can almost understand the poor balck kid living in the hood feeling he is being held down. I will never understand some fukk paid 6 figures a year to teach, living in Cambridge feeling that way.
But they do.
Why?
Are they mentally ill?
No, they have been told that that is how they should act and are chastised if they don't.

Second, I don't think assholes behave like assholes because others tell them to. I think they figure out how to do that on their own. And I think they should be held personally accountable, and not be allowed to point the finger of blame at someone else.

Re: This woman has it figured out
The "they" I refer to are people like Obama, Holder and that asshole buddy of Obama that went to the balck victimhood card when the cops were simply doing their fukking job. Obama then, without knowing what the fukk he was talking about pronounced the cops as acting "stupidly".
If that is not a textbook example of disdain, I don't know what is.
Have they ever been profiled because of the color of their skin?
Sure they have. So has everyone. Remember Jesse Jackson, in a rare moment of being truthful talked about being nervous walking down the street with a group of young balck men walking behind him?
We all profile. And a good bit of our profiling is based on what we see with our own two eyes. The woman in that articles point was that maybe the high percentage of intereactions with balcks might be due to bad behavior on their point rather than some unfair targeting by the police.

I don't know much about this case. If the cops were in the right, my guess is that he was misinformed and making assumptions based on his prejudices. Or maybe he just interpreted the incident stupidly. He's never struck me as a particularly bright man. But I still don't think he has disdain for the law.smackaholic wrote:The "they" I refer to are people like Obama, Holder and that asshole buddy of Obama that went to the balck victimhood card when the cops were simply doing their fukking job. I saw a black comedian on TV a few years ago (don't remember who it was), and he said a white friend of his said he was nervous standing at the ATM with a black guy behind him. "Hell," he said, "I 'd be nervous at an ATM with a black guy standing behind me!"
