I bought a horse last night!

Well, to be more honest, I bought one share in a racehorse, so I own maybe one strand of hair in his tail. But hey, for $60, I'm now an owner.

Here he is:

Image

Image

He two years old and is being trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas.

Background from the Belmont thread:
Roux wrote: Sun Jun 09, 2024 4:56 pm During the singing of New York, New York yesterday, the tv camera was on this guy and I thought he looked just like a former coworker of mine. Wait, that has to be him.

So I texted him, sure enough he was at the Belmont. Turns out that he's one of the 2000+ owners of Seize the Grey and was in the winner's circle at the Preakness.

Image

I asked him how he got into it, he said thru My Racehorse. I saw it being advertised but didn't pay attention to it. He owns a share of Seize the Grey for $127, and several others.
Seize the Grey was $127. Anywhere between $60- $225 for bundles with multiple horses at Myracehorse.com. They have some pretty good horseflesh open to investors right now. Won't get rich, but the experience is worth the price. They treat you as an owner, even though over 2000 own a piece of Grey! Read up on the Pedigrees. They give a lot of information. With STG, i couldn't pass up an Arrogate colt trained by D Wayne Lukas. They use a lot of the top trainers on the east and west coasts. Been doing this about 3 years. Its not a lot to buy in, may not make your money back in some cases, but its a blast if you like horses!
Hmmmm. I've spent more money on worse things, why not?

Sounds like a fun hobby. I spent $75.32 on a single share of DJT (Trump Media and Technology Group) on the day it came out. So far I’ve lost $34.65. But I can live with that, at least I have a little slice of MAGA.

He doesn't have a name yet. Once the sale is finished, then the owners will nominate and vote on a name.

Here is a link to his page with some video, his pedigree, and other info.

The pedigree for another horse there has a troll type name, like Trolley Sam or something like that. Yes I realize it is referencing a trolley car and not trolls, but still i almost bought a share of that horse just because of that. I think it is that tall filly.

I'm sure RJack owns more horse than I do. Probably Zyclone too. Where is RJack now and can we get an update on his horse?

And rack the Poptart

Didn't R Jack drop dead of a massive heart attack at Peter Luger steakhouse a few years back?

Props on the pony and Lukas is a legend.

I'd guess Checkerbutt as a name is still available...

A tramp stamp with the horse's name would help JiFR scream the right name when he nuts. Something to consider.

Lahaina Luck '22
Owner Update

Lahaina Luck '22 Intro
MyRacehorse is thrilled to have you as part of the Lahaina Luck ’22 ownership group. This is an exciting son of the late Improbable who will be headed to the barn of 2024 Preakness-winning trainer D. Wayne Lukas. This colt presented himself as a powerhouse at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale and we couldn’t have been happier to land this one late in the sale for $210,000.

So what stands out about Lahaina Luck ’22?

This colt breezed in :10.2 (out in :11 4/5, :25 2/5) over the slower track in Maryland while displaying some greenness, but also good response to the rider’s encouragement and one of the biggest stride lengths of the entire sale at 25.5 ft.

Physically, the colt is a very striking individual. He looks fast, but also extremely sturdy with great bone, a deep shoulder, a strong hip and hind leg. He's built to handle the Lukas training program.

His stallion Improbable was a Grade 1 winner as a juvenile, but only got better with age, taking down three Grade 1 events at four and ending his career with a bang-up second in the Breeders’ Cup Classic to MyRacehorse’s very own Authentic. We expect his first crop of runners to really come on in the second half of this season.

Our colt's dam sire is none other than super sire Uncle Mo, who has been represented by two highest-level winners this year and two of the leading sophomores in the country in Kentucky Oaks heroine Thorpedo Anna and Arkansas Derby romper Muth.

Lahaina Luck ’22 is currently at Rebecca Maker’s Shantera Farm and will get legged up there before joining the Lukas stable at Saratoga in late summer. We gave him some time off after the sale, like we do with all of our 2-year-olds, and considering this horse went through two 2-year-old sales we felt he would benefit from some additional time. He is an Apr. 10 foal, so time will be on his side.

We will be following up with some updated content this week and look forward to seeing what this colt can do later in the season.

No. He's a STUD, And a Philly is a Philly. No trans- genders allowed in this great sport.

Although, there was an amazing Philly years ago by the name of "Genuine Risk", she was an exception to the rule, along with "Winning Colors".

There's a slight chance the Dr. Patel on here, isn't the REAL Dr. Patel, because he's the foremost surgeon alive today, with heads of state flying in from all over the world. He's nearing 20,000 surgeries performed, so it's highly unlikely he'd have time to "mix it up" with you guys.

Word has it that even the leaders of North Korea and Russia flew in under assumed names to have their cancerous prostates removed.

It's Time to Name Lahaina Luck '22!

We’re extremely excited to name our colt in collaboration with our friends at BigPlay Media who helped purchase our son of Improbable at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic May 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale.

Our partner, BigPlay, is a Cleveland based sports media network whose community is pumped to learn the ropes of the horse racing game. They are eager to join us on this journey, so to welcome them to racehorse ownership we have decided to collaborate on a naming contest for Lahaina Luck 22!

Join the BigPlay community in this crowdfunding naming process by submitting your own suggestions for your colt via the BigPlay platform. You can submit 1 name per owner by following the link HERE.

Once the submission window has closed on July 14th and the selected names have been submitted and approved by the Jockey Club, we will announce the top 5 names available to vote on.

Have fun and happy naming!

So I get to submit a possible name for this horse. You see A.P. Indy in his pedigree, that horse won horse of the year in 1992, and won the Belmont with the 2nd fastest time in history. A.P. Indy's sire was Seattle Slew, who won the 1977 Triple Crown. And A.P. Indy's damsire was none other than Secretariat, who won 1973 Triple Crown.

So I'm thinking of something like Lucky Indy or Royal Indy, in recognition of his pedigree. But maybe the great minds here can come up with a better name. Any suggestions?

Rack Strawman. I submitted Royal Indy for a name, but my guess is that he will be named Improbable Luck.

I've grown the Roux stable of horses. It was a bundle package, meaning you get an ownership share in each horse, total cost was about $200.

They are all two year olds, and that means they are just starting their training. But one of them didn't appear to be able to earn his upkeep, so he was sold. As they said in the update to the owners, it is better to cut your losses early.

So that leaves four of them. They've already been named and here they are:

Saratoga Warrier has progressed and is the first one to be race ready. On Monday he'll probably be entered into his maiden race, which will run at Saratoga on Friday. Yesterday he had his final workout before the race, he ran 4 furlongs in 47:54, which was the 2nd fastest workout of the day out of 48 horses. The race will be 5½ furlongs, so we'll see if he can keep that speed up for the distance.

Just as it is impossible for me to be objective on N.O. Saints and LSU football, it is impossible to be objective on these horses. Without knowing his competition or looking at a racing form, I already know that I'll bet $10 across the board on him. "Across the board" means three bets, one to win, one to place, and one to show, for a total of $30. I suspect that considering his name and that he's running at Saratoga, there will be an undue amount of bets on him, so his odds will not be as good as they otherwise should be. Whatever, this is just fun for me. Geaux Saratoga Warrier!

Saratoga Warrier's first race will be the 6th race at Saratoga on Friday. He's never run this distance before.

Still, the betting lines have opened and he is the betting favorite at 7/2. Even with his name, I wasn't expecting him to be the favorite to win.
