Re: Your Dream team:
Too many cancers on your "dream team". I would drop Owens from your team and replace him with Hines Ward. Ward will do everything Owens does without the hassles. Gates had one good year but Gonzo is still the best TE in the game. And I would drop Alexander for the same reason I'd drop TO, he's a me first guy. I'd replace Alexander with Tiki Barber in a heartbeat.frodo_biguns wrote:Mine:

Defensively, the only pick I disagree with is Ray Lewis. Takeo Spikes is my choice to fill that spot.

The first time there isn't a me-first receiver in the NFL will be the last. The best receivers in the game are selfish. Even Ward is a bit selfish. He just isn't as vocal. What on-field hassles does TO cause other then matchup problems for any safety of LB over the middle? I agree that Ward should be on the team but TO is not the receiver I would replace.
I'd still take Dawkins over any safety on that list. He's had better season then either of the 2 listed.

Look at the Eagles fans running to back their boy TO.
I pick Moss over TO because Moss can stretch the field like no other. Furthermore, at least there is a team in the NFL willing to TRADE for Moss. Or did you miss thhe Falcons not just saying no comment but rather NO FUCKING WAY when asked about trading for TO?
There is no doubt TO is a great talent. But if I have Moss on the team, I don't need TO whining about his lack of touches.

How many teams do you know of that can afford TO's price tag? That's the primary reason he wasn't/couldn't be traded. And the trade for Moss took place long before the whole TO fiasco took place.
Unfortunately for you, you don't get the local tv stations in Philly which showed Moss jogging off the line on run plays, doing his best to sell the pass and freeze the safeties. After that hit by Dawkins in the 1st quarter, Moss decided the game was too violent for him and took most of the game off.
Speaking of safeties.. where was your boy Troy Polamalu in the 4th quarter? I thought he was, in your words the best young defensive player since Ray Lewis?

Whining about lack of touches? Have you ever seen Moss give up playing when the ball is not being thrown to him? At least TO plays 110% every time he is on the fieldBSmack wrote:Look at the Eagles fans running to back their boy TO.

And Yes- Moss can stretch the field- but so can TO. The difference is TO and is not afraid to go acorss the middle. Also, when TO is losing- he keeps playing. Moss gives up and half-asses it the rest of the time.

There were a few teams out there that could have. And they all said HELL NO.jiminphilly wrote:How many teams do you know of that can afford TO's price tag? That's the primary reason he wasn't/couldn't be traded. And the trade for Moss took place long before the whole TO fiasco took place.
So you're tell me that Philly neutralized Moss ofter the 1st quarter and that was the best Philly could do against the rest of the Raiders?Unfortunately for you, you don't get the local tv stations in Philly which showed Moss jogging off the line on run plays, doing his best to sell the pass and freeze the safeties. I guess you can scratch "playoffs" from your list of things to do in January. Because if the Eagles can't manage better than a 3 point win against a team who's top 2 players have been shut down, then what will they do when they play a team not coached by Norv Turner?
Or could it be that the Eagles still had to respect Moss as a threat?
Troy had an average game. He needed to have a dominant game. Shall we go to Brian Dawkins' numbers in last year's Super Bowl?Speaking of safeties.. where was your boy Troy Polamalu in the 4th quarter? I thought he was, in your words the best young defensive player since Ray Lewis?

You mean the one that Troy didn't play in? Pitt needed that win yesterday and their defense failed them. On the other hand, in a game where the Raiders could have stolen a game on the road, it was the Eagles defense that stepped up and kept them in the game.BSmack wrote:jiminphilly wrote:How many teams do you know of that can afford TO's price tag? No way can Moss be just another Raider
Monday, September 26, 2005
By BOB PADECKY
THE PRESS DEMOCRAT
Randy Moss, the greatest wide receiver this side of Terrell Owens, the guy who was going to vault the Raiders to respectability, had seven passes thrown to him Sunday. His quarterback, Kerry Collins, threw 35 more to everyone else. This is taking a Jaguar and keeping it in second gear, never opening it up, never giving it a chance to impress.
Impress, that’s Moss’ job. Snatch victory from defeat, that’s a more detailed description. Turn games around. Wow ’em. Take that diamond and let it shine. Sunday was made for a guy with a $75 million contract.
On one hand, the Eagles were ripe for a tumble, burdened with penalties, a creaky quarterback and a gimpy kicker. Playing disjointed and confused, Philly made itself available for a sucker punch.
On the other hand, the Raiders also were burdened with penalties, a slumping kicker and pass coverage that collapsed under pressure. The Raiders couldn’t pull the trigger on the gun placed right in front of them.
With the teams languishing somewhere between ugly and mediocre, a mega-talent takes over. This is when Randy Moss is supposed to be Randy Moss, game-breaker, heart-breaker, highlight-maker. Moss diminishes Sebastian Janikowski’s shoddy kicking. The penalties fade. The invisible LaMont Jordan is not so disturbing.
Instead we get this from Collins: "Their plan was to take him away and for three quarters they did. If it’s a ‘Go’ route (sprint downfield) and there’s a guy shucking him at the line of scrimmage and another guy 25 yards downfield, I can pretty much tell you he’s not going to get open."
In the history of this league all the great wide receivers have been double-covered and all the great wide receivers still get the ball thrown to them, still find a way to get open, still have a coach competent enough to conceive innovations.
Sunday the Raiders did not have that coach. And it’s not all on Norv Turner. It’s on Moss as well.
"Really, I was kinda wanting for them to throw to him more," said Eagles free safety Brian Dawkins.
Don’t believe I ever heard any defensive backs ever saying that about Jerry Rice, Cris Carter, Marvin Harrison, Isaac Bruce, Tim Brown, Steve Largent, just as a few examples.
The reason, said Dawkins, is that Moss gets discouraged, gives up on his routes and, essentially, takes himself out of the game.
"We tried to mix it up as much as possible," Dawkins said of his pass coverages on Moss. "When he’s facing that kind of coverage, maybe he doesn’t go out and run like he usually would run. In his mind he’s thinking, ‘I can’t get past the safety.’"
Dawkins was questioning Moss’ professionalism, a flaw that reduces his impact and, frankly, his teammates’ respect. This is not the mindset one wants to see in a player so viewed as vital and important to Oakland. As the season continues, it will bear close inspection, to see if Moss finds every offensive play essential or selectively chooses his involvement.
Remember what Moss once said in Minnesota: "I play when I want to." Moss needs to play every down. The Raiders need for him to play every down.Troy had an average game. He needed to have a dominant game. Shall we go to Brian Dawkins' numbers in last year's Super Bowl?Speaking of safeties.. where was your boy Troy Polamalu in the 4th quarter? Nice job ignoring this little sentence. This is the type of receiver you want on your team?

But hey, that would imply that Randy Moss can think. And we all know that Denny Green stole his brain and made it have an abortion.

So- hes faking walking off the field before the game is over? Faking half assed blocks down field? Faking not even going up in the air for that 2 point conversion in the opening game?BSmack wrote:It occours to me that if I were a reciever, I would WANT the other team to think I was out of the game.jiminphilly wrote:BSmack wrote: Nah, Moss wasn't a factor. :roll:The reason, said Dawkins, is that Moss gets discouraged, gives up on his routes and, essentially, takes himself out of the game.

Wait until he starts going blue again ( which he will ) . He alligator armed a lot of passes in SF , when they had a chance at the playoffs .
He is a me player . He is .

Okay- Since 1998-Cicero wrote:Moss has outplayed TO for his career. I know yesterday TO had a TD, but 20 years from now in the Pantheon od receivers, To is gonna be behind Moss. His numbers are going to be just too good.
Moss- 9142 Yards, 109 games played- average of 83.87 a game. 90 TD's- average of .83 TD's a game
Owens- 8316 Yards, 103 games played- average of 80.74 a games. 83 TD's- average of .81 a game.
Very similar numbers- but keep in mind who they had throwing the balls to them. Moss had Culpepper and became THE man right out of the gate. For TO's first 3 years- he had Rice taking attention away from him (97, 98, 99). From 99 on- he had Garcia throwing him the ball.
Overall- very similar numbers- average almost the same... considering Moss had a much better playmaker getting him the ball... I would say they are pretty much equal.
Figure in heart, ferocious game play and courage (not afraid to go across the middle)- I think Owens gets the nod.

I just remember TO dropping a lot of passes his first couple of years in SF , especially that playoff game against Green Bay , which Steve Young saved ( wouldn't have been that close had TO caught a few that were right in his hands ) . TO became the default #2 because JJ Stokes sucked opposite Rice .
TO set a record 20 catches in a game , his breakout game . He then continued a campaign against the QB who threw him those passes , accusing him of being gay in a Playboy interview .
He wouldn't speak to his coach who diciplined him for the Dallas Star incident.
He took plays off in SF as well . And acted as Prima Donna .
Just wait dude , he will meltdown in Philly too .
