RACK Elvin Bishop

Post by Mikey »

I've been slowly working my into this list the past couple of days...

http://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/

I saw the Elvin Bishop Band play years ago opening for Leon Russell and Loggins & Messina outdoors. All three were great but Elvin seriously stole the show. Just awesome good time party R&R.

The 1979 EB show on sugarmegs brings it all back.
The Elvis Costello show from '78 next to it is great too.

Now you've got that "On And On" song going off in my head!

Sorry, but I always tend to get Elvin Bishop confused with Stephen Bishop. :P

Interesting sidelight, from wikipedia.org:
Stephen Bishop (born November 14, 1951 in San Diego, California) is an American singer and guitarist. He had a hit in 1977 with the song "On and On". He has also performed many movie themes, including the theme from National Lampoon's Animal House, which he sang in a falsetto voice. He also has a cameo role in that film as the aspiring folksinger whose guitar is smashed by John Belushi. Bishop still keeps the smashed guitar as a memento.

Elvin Bishop and Stephen Bishop couldn't be much more different.

Elvin Bishop:

Image

Kick out the windows bust down the doors
We're drinkin' half gallons and shoutin' for more
Take off your shoes and let yourself go
We're never gonna let these good times go
We're gonna boogie till the rooster crows
We're gonna party till the cows come home
Let it roll ...
Well, let it roll...
We got all the chicken and ribs you can eat
We got good time music and dancin' feet
We're gonna turn up the music as loud as we please
We'll be so high we can hardly see
We're gonna boogie till the rooster crows
We're gonna party till the cows come home
Let it roll ...
Ah, let it roll...

Stephen Bishop (fag):

Down in Jamaica
They got lots of pretty women
Steal your money
Then they break your heart
Lonesome Sue, she's in love with ol' Sam
Take him from the fire into the frying pan

On and on
She just keeps on trying
And she smiles when she feels like crying
On and on, on and on, on and on

Poor ol' Jimmy
Sits alone in the moonlight
Saw his woman kiss another man
So he takes a ladder
Steals the stars from the sky
Puts on Sinatra and starts to cry

On and on
He just keeps on trying
And he smiles when he feels like crying
On and on, on and on, on and on
