Era, I have never left these boards, I went from the Rome board to the troll.com board to some short lived board to this board. I have followed these guys on the CFB board forever. I used to post for two straight years on Lakerground.net until this year year when they banned me for speaking the truth about the lakers management. I would post more on the NBA board here but if you haven't noticed there isn't a lot of action over there.

If you have any questions about me posting on the Lakers go over to lakerground and they will tell you how much they hate me even though I was always a pretty stand up poster and never called anyone out like they did to me.

Today the majority of my time is spent between the CFB board and spursreport.com

BTW here is a little fark I made up for you and the rest of the laker crowd back when I was Austin_Bill

As a fan of the team that has recently been fisted by both Texas and USC, I believe I have a unique and humiliating perspective on the matchup. There will be no bias in this post as I have an equal level of hatred for both programs. In fact, if this game does happen, the only team I'll be rooting for on January 4th is team San Andreas Fault.

Now, despite the blanket statements that are being thrown around by SC Fan, not all Sooners thought OU would win easily last year. In fact, anyone who did was either drunk or stupid or both. Did I expect OU to play Tina to USC's Ike? No. But it was as clear then as it is today that USC's program is, for the time being, a notch above all others. Sorry Bill, but that includes Texas.

The bottom line is, Texas has never seen the kind of firepower that USC will throw at them. Hell, no one has until recently. UT's only chance is to follow the Notre Dame blueprint and eat up the clock with long, grind-it-out drives. In a shootout, Texas will be throttled.

I've seen Texas play about five times this year and though Vince is Superman, I don't think the Horns stand much of a chance against USC. They will keep it closer than did OU (how could they not). But the talent and coaching mismatches are in the Trojans' favor.

Vince+Charles+Taylor+Pittman < Leinart+Bush+White+Jarrett
Brown <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Carroll

Rack War Stoops

I don't mean to blanket OU fans in particular, WS. I do, however, mean to blanket the Big XII honks' mentality that we stood no chance. I give OU fans a lot of credit, they are a pretty knowledgeable bunch and can be objective.

A good amount of the Texas fanbase, however, falls into the honk category.

ps Fuck you too

^^^^^^^^ Good Post

I agree that if Texas gets into a shootout it will be to its disadvantage but I also believe that Texas will win the Time of possession battle because of its oline and running game.

You are right Texas has not seen the firepower that USC possesses but USC has not seen the defense Texas possesses. I know we won't shut them down but no way they run all over Texas like they have other teams. Even if Texas gets down early the USC defense will not be able to just pin their ears back and come after the Texas QB because on any play he can turn a sack into a touchdown.

I see Texas waring down the USC defense with their running game and hitting a few deep passes to keep the SC defense honest. I have a hard time seeing the SC defense holding Texas under 30 pts they will likely keep us under 50 but not under 30. I can easily see the Texas defense holding SC offense under 40 pts.

BTW I have my doubts that Carroll and his staff is better than Brown and his staff. They haven't faced each other, but Mack has gotten the better of some pretty good coaches in his day including Dr Tom, Carr, Stoops, Tressel, and Saban.

Very good indeed!!

You hit on one of the factors that I really think separates USC and Texas: Pete Carroll vs Mack Brown.

If I'm Texas Fan that one scares the hell out of me. In general, Mack Brown couldn't lead a team of hookers to Fort Knox.

The other one is USC's big game experience, led by their senior QB who's never faltered in a pressure situation.

Since Vito is too lazy to actually look at the stats, I'll start writing his posts for him. Here is how USC's schedule compares to Texas' based on Total Defense.

TEXAS:

Louisiana Lafayette - 57
Ohio State - 4
Rice - 111
Missouri - 53
Oklahoma - 16
Colorado - 33
Texas Tech - 28
Oklahoma State - 96
Baylor - 67
Kansas - 20
aTm - 108
Colorado - 33
AVERAGE – 52

USC:

Hawaii - 98
Arkansas - 38
Oregon - 49
Arizona State - 114
Arizona - 89
Notre Dame - 65
Washington - 95
Washington State - 107
Stanford - 106
Kal - 47
Fresno State - 32
fUCLA - 102
AVERAGE – 78.5

Good job Vito, you score a point. Texas' average opponent had a defensive rating of 52, versus 78.5 for USC. A margin of 26.5.

At the same time, Texas' average offensive opponent had an offensive rating of 74, versus 36.5 for USC. A margin of 37.5.

Again, Vito, please tell me how the Trojans don't have a chance against Texas. From what I see the stats say very much the opposite.

ps If you think you'll own time of possession because of your running game and your offensive line, you're even more myopic than our preliminary reports had feared.

Carroll hasn't impressed me this year, but he really hasn't had a need to be impressive since he has a coach on the field on offense.

I still think its an unknown how each staff will prepare. Both teams have had wakeup call.

As for the Big game garbage, Texas has won what still stands as the most impressive win either school has played in this year (OSU). Texas won in the Rose bowl last year and they play every year in the RRW which is all about pressure.

I would say that Big game experience is a non-factor in this game.

You are right, losing half your coaching staff and still going undefeated isn't a big deal.

Christ you're a dumbfuck.

See parting comment above.
I still think its an unknown how each staff will prepare. Both teams have had wakeup call.
An unknown how each team will prepare? It's pretty obvious how we'll prepare.

The same way we have for every other team we've beaten. You'd just be the next unfortunate team to play us.
As for the Big game garbage, Texas has won what still stands as the most impressive win either school has played in this year (OSU). Texas won in the Rose bowl last year and they play every year in the RRW which is all about pressure.
Nothing against Ohio State, but that wan't the most impressive win by a longshot. Sorry to break the news to you, but tOSU didn't come on this season until late and had many opportunities to kick your ass. That's hardly impressive.

Lose the rose colored glasses Vito, you're starting to come off like m2ool.

Meds to make the stats more meaningful try only incluiding the top 4 or 5 defenses both teams faced this will get rid of some of the statistical outliers (though since USC has faced 4 teams with defenses ranked lower than 100 I hardly see that as an advantage for Texas but just going by the top 5

Texas has faced
#4
#16
#20
#28
#33.

Average - 20

SC has faced
#32
#38
#47
#49
#65

Average is 46. 2

SC has faced one defense statistically on Par with Colorado. You guys have feasted on 4 defenses that rank on par with Rice and Texas A&M. Statistically speaking the average best defense you faced falls somewhere between Missouri and Colorado. That tells me that for the Texas offense to be ranked #2 in the nation is more legit than for the SC offense to be ranked #1

We can break this down further who is the best defense you offense faced? That would be #32 Fresno State. Do you really consider Fresno State to have the #32 best defense? Look at who they played to get that ranking?

Now look at the best defense Texas has faced, #4 Ohio State. I can pretty much guarantee that they actually deserve their ranking, I might go so far as to say they are the best defense in the country, with Vtech, Miami and Texas being the only ones to put up a legit argument against.

I will repeat what I said earlier, the TEXAS offense has faced better defenses than the USC defense but neither the Texas defense nor USC's offense or defense has faced a unit like they will in the Rosebowl.

Texas lost half its staff as well, look where we are.
I guess if that is your measuring stick then Mack is every bit Carroll's equal.

If going into the Shoe and beating OSU wasn't the most impressive win of the year tell me what was, about the only win that rivals it is Miami beating Vtech.

I'm glad you think SC will prepare the same way, I feel really confident Texas will not take SC lightly and prepare their team to face the #1 team in the Nation for the MNC. The more SC takes Texas lightly the more sure I get of a Texas win.

If anyone has rose colored glasses on its trojan fan.

Vito, I think you're confusing BBS message board banter with reality. See, what I or Meds or even you say will or won't happen isn't going to have any bearing whatsoever on whether or not Pete and his players take Texas too lightly...

Matt Leinart isn't logging in here to gauge how well USC will do in the Rose Bowl, based on what SoCalTrjan says.

I think we can all rest assured that if Texas and USC are fortunate enough to get through one more game apiece that neither team will take the other team lightly in the game for all the marbles. We're going to see each team's most intense effort, of this we can be certain.

Now, how well each team handles that intensity, that winner-takes-all pressure, there's the rub. That's where I really like Pete, his staff and his players over Mack Brown and Texas.

I fail to see then why SC fan is so confident, if Carroll is taking Texas serious why is SC fan not? Are you smarter than Carroll? I can understand looking at how your team performed and trying to draw comparisons as how they will perform but for SC fan to act like their last hurdle to a MNC is UCLA is ridiculous. About the only thing on par would be if I or other Texas fans came on after the Ohio State or Oklahoma game and proclaimed us to be the MNC.

This discussion has become incredibly tedious and, I'm sure, will be come even moreso in the next four weeks (barring of course an unexpected loss by either team).

Oh chill wit' it. Mack's not even the shot caller. He's a recruiter/cheerleader and that's about it. His recruiting skills helped land the top defensive cordinator in college football this past offseason, and in my opinion without that big fish Texas probably wouldn't be in the position they're in. Mack's cheerleading skills also hit a high mark when he took Youngs advice and downloaded some Fitty Cent and Common tunes. It's all about the ghetto slang.

Rack.

BTW- Texas hasn't won the BIG 12 yet and USC has yet beat UCLA in '05. Until then, I'll keep my mouth shut. Jinx type shit and whatnot.

You stay on course like a train without tracks, don't you.

You would be the moron who suggested your confidence in beating USC. It's in multiple threads. Don't tell me you don't remember.

My point has only been that this confidence is foolish, and nowhere have I said that we confident we'll beat Texas.

But whichever angle helps you get out of an asskicking, by all means go for it.

I was waiting to get on on this until tomorrow night but I cannot help it with some of the stuff I have read.

Plain and simple this is a tough game for me. I grew up in a house where SC football was a religion. I think "Student body left" was the first phrase I spoke. I have an undieing hatred for all things UCLA and Notre Dame. That being said, my dad is ready to disown me. I love SC. I have attended many a game at the Colisseum. I thought Pete Carroll was a great hire for SC and I remember talking my dad off the ledge when he signed. I told him anyone is better than Ted Tollner and Larry Smith.

I have followed Texas since Earl. The first college I wanted to go to was Texas. I bleed burnt orange. I have been a season ticket holder for 12 years. I live for the wins and die with the losses. I will be at Reliant tomorrow cheering like crazy. That last time I was feeling this good was January 1984. That still sucks. I sat through David McWilliams and John Mackovic. Mack is a godsend.

The last 3 years have been like a dream for SC fan. My dad has sent my son a jersey for x-mas every year and every year I have taken a picture of him in it before the bowl game for some Trojan karma. I remember watching SC win the title in 1978 and how proud my dad was. I called him as the clock ticked down in the Rose Bowl in 2004 and SC was killing Michigan. I was pretty confident that SC would cream OU. They did. I called him and we revelled in the white wash.

This year is different. My 2 favorite teams are about to go head to head. I am totally torn. I grew up on SC and I love Texas. I will be rooting for both and cannot lose either way. Deep down I want Texas to pull it out. SC has had its day.

This is exactly what CFB is NOT!!!!

There is no room for 2 teams in the heart of a TRUE fan of a team. It's the first team that you identify with that is your true cfb passion. I aint buying the "my dad's team vs. my team". No freakin way!! Most dudes' identify with the team their dad introduced them to and NO team will ever trump that team. If you grew up with no alligience and went to a certain school then that team can become yours at a later age, but other than that CFB loyalty runs deep. I cannot fathom having more than my team in my heart.

That may be just me...I don't know.

The moral of this story remains true though. The media did catch on to USC. They caught on to 'em just in time (well, all season long) to once again hang another end of season #1 ranking on 'em...
