Helluva' peak, huh? Revenues higher than they've ever been. Yes, this must somehow reflect badly on Tags.
The average 12 year old kid would rather play Nintendo or soccer than watch the NFL. What happens in 10 years when these kids are now at optimal age for NFL marketing but don't watch the league because they would rather watch soccer or play video games? ....But the league is healthier than ever huh Wags?
And promptly replaced by ESPN and NBC. Yeah, that really sucks for the NFL.
There’s a reason ABC dumped Monday Night football, it’s called the lowest ratings in Monday night football history. Lower ratings means less dollars from sponsors and more games being moved to cable / the NFL Network...for even fewer viewers.
How are they out of control? Role players being replaced by inexperienced rookies? So? Did you say something about oxymorons? As for mediocrity, the players are better now than they ever were. This is a bad thing or reflection on Tags how?
Sorry wrong again Wags, most rookies aren’t better than veterans. These role players you think are easily replaceable by rooks are 3-5 year veterans who were special teamers and backups. 15 years ago not many rooks would even make it on the field....for a reason....inexperience. Inexperience leads to turnovers & penalties like holding, especially on returns, blocks from behind, blown coverages etc.
Many veterans now are axed because the veterans minimum for such players is 500K to 800K and their salaries don’t mix well with 1st, 2nd and 3 rd players who all now have contracts worth a million dollars or more. Paying this much to 1st day rookies who haven’t proved a thing is bad for the game by reducing the number of veteran players on every team. This in turn has led to players on the field who make more mistakes and lowers the overall quality of the game, despite the fact players today are bigger and faster. It also contributes to many rookies not working as hard at their craft as they did 20 years ago because they’ve basically already hit the lottery.
Tags as commish should work out a compromise. Like $500k max per season for any rook with the possibility to be an unrestricted FA after 3 years. This would give the team that drafted a player a couple of years to evaluate and sign him to a long term deal or allow that to team to punt, without heavy cap ramifications. It also brings maxium value to top selections in terms of trade bait. Top rookies would still be well paid and have the option to be an unrestricted FA by year 4, but more importantly....much more motivation to excel. Will Tags address the issue? As with any simple tool.....not likely.
Short term? Are you fucking kidding me? Is that why they pitch in mega bucks to help build 1/2 Billion dollar stadiums?
Is that why they pitch in Mega bucks to help build 1/2 Billion dollar stadiums?
I’ve got news for you Wags, any money the NFL pitches in for a new stadium they recover through PSL’s. In other words, through fans. Short term money grubbing is probably best illustrated by the NFL’s current Super Bowl hosting criteria.
Basically any city that passes legislation to finance a new stadium will find it’s way on the Super Bowl rotation (even Detroit). No new stadium (KC, Oak, SD, SF), zero chance for the Super Bowl. NFL extortion.....via Taglibubu.
The only gullible here are the one's wanting to kill the golden goose, as if they had a better goose waiting in the wings. This just in but his JOB is to make the owners money.
The job of any commissioner is to do what is best for the league as a whole. That would include changes like a rookie salary cap and full time officials. Instead of the bastardization of the rules every year to formulate increased scoring like Arena League Football for short attention span morons.
Tags' has done a piss poor job at making the league better. To compare him to Pete Rozelle is ludicrous.
Butkus didn't wear an earring.
