It's all about what you believe in...he's well in his right to say that. Religion is a touchy subject with most of us and we get our undies in a bunch if someone proclaims their faith...it was a fairly harmless statement on his part. I don't share his same beliefs but I will defend his right to say what he said.

I bought two $50 pull-tabs. One of them was 4-6. Rack that missed extra point and rack my $1,000 score.

Dungy can say whatever he wants to say. But he did clearly imply that it was preferable to have Christians coaching than non Christians. Which is an absolute load of shit.Shoalzie wrote:It's all about what you believe in...he's well in his right to say that. Must have missed that. I heard him acknowledge his blackness and Lovie's blackness, then minimize that for their humanity and belief in Christ. The implication I heard, is that even when dealing with people who often mistake kindness for weakness, the way of respect, acknowledgement of human dignity, etc.. etc.. can win. One does not need resort to dirty talk and fear in order to motivate others.BSmack wrote:Dungy can say whatever he wants to say. If you have a direct quote, that'd be nice. I just didn't catch the same wind.

His implication of saying two Christian coaches "did it the right way" is probably what would rub some people the wrong way. The rest of what he said was perfectly alright.

I like the way it worked out. I had 7 and 9 on a $5 10x10 board. I have my choice of a 20" LCD TV or $350.BSmack wrote:Fuck Dungy. Jesus told me that you know you've hit rock bottom when you try to insight a special olympiad pissing match by slagging off religion and nobody bites.
Next time mix in some racial epithets and maybe you'll get a nibble.
Better yet, try some fag smack and douchelord will just jump in the boat for you.

help me scrape the mucus off my brain
I didn't hear Dungy's remarks.
I assume he gave thanks to Jesus Christ in victory.
1 Thessalonians 5:18: In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Christian athletes and coaches are sometimes pretty good about publicly giving thanks when it goes their way.
We rarely (if ever), however, hear a peep from them about being thankful to Jesus Christ in a losing effort.

Good point. Now that you've brought it up though, I have vague remembrances of the standard ... "Thank God for the opporuntity, nobody was hurt and blah blah blah" being said by losing teams before.poptart wrote: We rarely (if ever), however, hear a peep from them about being thankful to Jesus Christ in a losing effort.
Of course, that could be MY own H.S. football experience muddying the waters, (we lost a lot) and the fact it was a Catholic H.S.
You mean the world is rife with fair-weather christians, hoping they can do just enough to get into the VIP Room?poptart wrote:We rarely (if ever), however, hear a peep from them about being thankful to Jesus Christ in a losing effort.
No way, man.
You mean, like every single person on the field sunday, who might as well start climbing through the eye of a needle with their camel in tow(the passage that was the overwhelming winner in "things we 'christians' wish they never wrote" voting)?
So, all of those guys that don't give a shit about "keeping the sabbath holy" might not be that devout, and are putting on a front for show, on the assumption that God is as shallow as they are?
Sorry about pissing in your Sunday morning Cherrios, God, but thanks for the check anyway.
Religious folk crack me up.
I got 99 problems but the 'vid ain't one
The Christians act strange because they almost unfailingly don't have assurance of their identity, and what that means.
God's children.
If they are solid in this fact, what else do they need ... ?
The Creator God is with me.
What blessing can possibly be better than this ... ?
Non-believers -- God is not with them.
And this is severe ..... very.
God created man to be with Him, man must live with God.
Non-believers live in a cursed state, with destruction awaiting to crash in on them.

Frankly, I don't have a problem with Dungy thanking God for the win. While I am not sure if God REALLY cares who wins the Super Bowl as opposed to how many people died today in Darfur or Iraq, Dungy is one of the FEW NFLer's who actually is a true Christian and not someon who trots it out when they retire, get in trouble with the law, or when it is convenient. (Did anyone see Tank Johnson comparing himself to Jesus Christ on Media Day when he was asked about the litany of charges he has pending against him?) His faith has kept him grounded through a sea of professional and personal strife and I am glad that he won and only wish there were more Christians like him in professional sports and less of armchair/a la carte kind like Deion Sanders, Michael Irvin, Ray Lewis, etc.
Rack him and his God.
Rack him and his God.

Rack Invictus. There is nothing more pathetic than those who bust out jesus only when they are in deep shit, usually due to very unchristlike behavior. Atleast Dungy does walk the walk every day other than that minor infraction about keeping the sabbath real or holy or whatever.

Second that rack. I hate people who use religion as a crutch in their down times and use religion as tool or pawn to garner sympathy or consideration when they commit a crime. The ones who forget all about it in the good times.smackaholic wrote:Rack Invictus. As for Dungy working on Sundays....the man's job requires it. God gets his 10 percent from Dungy, I'm certain, so I bet He gives Dungy a pass on that one. The fundamentalists might differ but they're the same one's who believe people who masturbate will burn in hell.
