Yeah, those crazy, wacky scientists, relying on proposing hypotheses that can and lately HAVE been tested. I mean, they COULD have stood pat with a book of Middle Eastern folklore that was cribbed from other cultures, but no, they had to go and actually, you know....do research and stuff.

Maybe it was winning that whole "the earth revolves around the sun and not the other way around" thing that got scientists so danged cocky. Or the "hey, guess what, the Earth is OLDER than 5,000 years old!" bit...
