He just guaranteed their salary in case they weren't retained and they didn't latch on with another school. Given some of their performances, it could be the last paycheck they get for awhile.

Normally I would agree about the Pryor stuff, but last night was the start of the Dead Period, so it was a pretty smart move by Dick Rod.

I was just about to interject that this is a common occurance in my industry (real estate) and it isn't looked down upon unless the client was brought in by another person and "handed off" to someone else. Everyone else is fair game on your list.

Yeah, and offensive linemen used to play QB in high school. Mallet can move around a little bit for his size, but there's no way he runs anything resembling RR's spread option offense. And it appears RR knows this, hence going after Pryor so hard.

3 years ago, it was hard for a lot of fans to realize that the spread can be a run-oriented offense.

Now, many have appeared to forget that it can be a pass-oriented offense.

Mich's assistants will still get paid but I'm sure a guy like Rod demanded carte blanche on hires. I'd imagine he'll keep 2-3 guys of the better guys from the current staff for continuity and because they are just good coaches.

In my field, when an attorney leaves a firm, it's the client's call whether he goes with the attorney or stays with the old firm. Depending on the situation and the type of fees involved, there may be some compensation to the entity that loses out.

But I don't think there's any way to make an appropriate comparison to college football in this case. Among other things, recruits have to be vetted through admissions, etc.
