Jonsense. All you brought were insults and obfuscations, and then you tried to pass off ancient history in lieu of what's happening right now.
Insults? Dude, you insult yourself with each and every clueless comment you make.
Ancient history??? So talking about RECENT history = ancient??? My god you're an idiot.
What pissed you off is my taking your entire season apart, game by game,
I have no idea what you're talking about. I have no interest in going back through this thread but I do not recall you doing this. If you did, good for you.
You ended up on a similar winning streak, again by playing nobody.
Penn State is nobody????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
You're like some dumbass ND fan, trying to sell their 2009 chances on the back of beating Hawaii, forgetting that you got shithammered in the only barometer games you played all season.
We lost by 12 combined points in our 4 losses and that = "shithammered???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Our last 4 games were all wins vs Minnesota, Purdue, Penn State, and South Carolina. Now, I'm not saying these teams are good teams other than Penn State, but to compare this to a win over Hawaii?? You have got to be kidding me.
Right now, it's better than Iowa's.
See this is where you prove how dumb you are. I brought up FACTS in this debate. I brought up records- recent and over the last few decades. I brought up conference titles, bowl games, Top 25 finishes, etc..... Where's your argument for Michigan State? Your argument is YOUR prediction of them having a brighter future. Fine, I can do that too. Ya know what.......Iowa's got a better program than Florida or USC cuz they're gonna win like 8 billion national titles in the next decade and Florida and USC won't cuz I say so. You think my takes are bad yet you claim a program that's been FAR inferior to Iowa for A LONG time period is better than Iowa because of your predictions about the future?????? I mean, how ridiculous is that??? That's the dumbest fucking shit I've ever heard of. Again, Van.............I AM NOT FROM MISSOURI BUT YOU GOTTA SHOW ME FIRST! If these next couple of years you are correct on your predictions than you can make this statement. But until then, I will just post this one more time for you........
9-4, 7-6, 4-8, 5-6, 5-7, 8-5, 4-8, 7-5, 5-6, 10-2, 6-6, 7-5, 6-6, 6-5-1, 0-11, 6-6, 5-6, 3-8, 8-3-1, 8-4, 6-5-1, 9-2-1, 6-5, 7-5, 6-6, 4-6-1, 2-9, 5-6
Michigan State since 1981
9-4, 6-6, 6-7, 7-5, 10-2, 10-3, 11-2, 7-5, 3-9, 1-10, 3-8, 7-5, 9-3, 8-4, 5-5-1, 6-6, 5-7, 10-1-1, 8-4, 5-6, 6-4-3, 10-3, 9-3, 10-2, 8-4-1, 9-3, 8-4, 8-4
Iowa since 1981
Michigan State this decade = 54-55 (0 Big-10 titles)
Iowa this decade = 69-43 (2 Big-10 titles)
They got a fucking losing record this decade to go along with no Big-10 titles and you're calling me myopic for expecting bigger things from Iowa (a team that's 26 games over .500 and has 2 Big-10 titles in that time frame)????
If you are trying to argue MSU as a better program than Iowa, you have absolutely NO right to criticize ANYONE's takes.
Okay, now onto the Iowa-MSU who has the better TEAM right now debate.....
You have not ONE SINGLE TIME in this thread argued WHY they're a better team. NOT ONCE. I have given good rationale as to why I have more confidence in Iowa in 2009 and that is because of quite a few things- lot's of returning starters from a very good defense, a more experienced QB, a better O-line, and had a stronger finish to 2008. Your ONLY argument is "well, they got a weaker schedule". Why don't you break down the teams for me? If you can't do that, then you should not be making this argument. What has Michigan State's returning players proven on the field that Iowa's haven't? What spots on the field are they stronger than Iowa? I can tell you the answer to this is not very many. You see, Iowa's actually got a decent amount of players that have proven to be solid Big-10 players. Our linebacking corps is WITHOUT A DOUBT the best in the conference and Top 2 or 3 in the country. We have 3 returning starters that were outstanding last year at that position. Our secondary features 1 very good corner (Spievey- he will be a lock for all big-10) and 2 quality safeties (especially Tyler Sash- who gets better and better every week). The offensive line features a couple of All-American candidates in Bulaga and Calloway. Our QB, Stanzi turned it over a lot early in the year (that's why we lost our 4 games), but he showed great improvement as the season went on. DJK has formed into a big threat at WR. Our kickers/punter improved as the season went on as well. We return 7 starters on offense and 8 on defense from a team that won 6 of their last 7 including a win over #3 Penn State and a New Years Day Bowl blowout.
In 2010 we will return 10 starters from this defense and 8 on offense- including our QB (who will be a 3rd year starter).
I don't think you'd get much debate from the coaches in the Big-10 in that Iowa will enter 2009 with a Top 2 positional ranking in the conference at defensive back, linebacker, defensive line, and offensive line. Our question marks are at kick returner and running back. For whatever reason, we just have not been able to find a good kick returner and losing Andy Brodell really hurts our punt return game. Hopefully someone will step up at that spot. As for running back, it's a big question mark there's no doubt about it. The good thing is we went 10-2 in 2004 after our Top 5 RB's all went down with season ending injuries 5 games into the season and were forced to play with a white boy walk-on. That's because we had a good QB and offensive line. Ferentz teams go by the line play. We've never had a down year under Ferentz when the line play has been very good. We've got some good athletes at RB, but none are proven (assuming the rumors about Jewel Hampton being out for the year are true). Of course that's a problem but if you asked me what position I feel we could afford this to happen to and I'd tell you it's running back because I am confident in the offensive line being able to make whoever steps in at RB look better than they actually are.
Is there a game on Iowa's schedule we can't win? No. Not one. That schedule is far from being a brutal one. I'm not really sure why you keep bringing it up. It's not an overly difficult schedule. I don't think it's anymore difficult than last year. Like I said, if we just win 1 of the following 3 games- Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State- I don't see how 9-3 or even 10-2 is out of the question. In fact, I'd say in that scenario that 9-3 or 10-2 is very LIKELY.
So I just gave you a very objective breakdown of Iowa. Why don't you give me one for Michigan State? You've run your mouth on here enough that I think it's absolute fucking bullshit and lame if you can't do that. I don't need one from Mgo, he knows his team well enough. You run your mouth, now back it up. Or shut the fuck up. Where is MSU better than Iowa? Other than the schedule, what do they have going for them that Iowa doesn't? Why is D'Antonio a better coach than Ferentz? What has he proven as a college head coach that Kirk has not? Which one is a national coach of the year, Iowa's coach or MSU's coach? Which coach has produced more All-Americans, Iowa's or MSU's? Which coach has sent more guys onto the NFL, Iowa's coach or MSU's? Why don't you break down the potential All-Conference teams and tell me where MSU has a better shot of fielding more All-Conference players and what have those players done to prove they're capable of that?
As for your comments on Iowa's late season success being smoke and mirrors and we beat no one (we did beat Penn State, but I guess facts aren't your deal)...........WHO THE FUCK DID MICHIGAN STATE BEAT ALL YEAR? Why is it smoke and mirrors when Iowa beats a bad team, but when MSU does it's proof they're awesome?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Hyocrite much??? Best win all year for them was Iowa. Best win all year for Iowa was Penn State. Oh, and just because you didn't beat a lot of good teams doesn't mean you didn't improve. Maybe we would have beaten some good teams had we been given the opportunity to play them. I commented on here before the bowl selection that i was hoping Iowa would go to the CapOne and MSU to the Outback to make the Big-10 look better because I said at the time that Georgia would destroy MSU and that MSU could beat South Carolina and I also felt Iowa had a shot against Georgia. Matter of fact, we probably would have beaten them.
You see, Van, I can actually back up my takes with good solid analysis. But you have yet to do that. So either get the fuck out of this thread or start listing reasons MSU has a better team than Iowa. You've run your fucking mouth enough and now it's time to back that shit up. Don't be a bitch and let's see what you got.....
