College Football is all about boozing with the fellas. It's about your own school's traditions.
Not trying to sound condescending at all, but great moments that mean national titles, or conference championships, etc. are unique to a limited number of teams.
There's no such thing as a national championship in college football. No team has ever won one. Real football is played in the NFL. The game on the field is secondary to everything else in college. I used to enjoy the games more but then I discovered real football and now I see college as the minor leagues. It's a big fucking party and I enjoy that. Don't get me wrong, I still love seeing Iowa win but I don't get as caught up in the game part of it as I used to. There's no parity in college football, every decent program seems to cheat, and there's never been a true national champion just a paper champion. Not that way in the NFL. You've got a salary cap that makes the game fair for everyone, the champion is played out on the field, and it's a better brand of football. In college you've got these fucking spread offenses that are just ruining football. That shit ain't skill. I got so excited when the option offense was basically eliminated but now you've got an even more garbage offense. I like a good pro-style offense with physical football being played on both lines. Not some sissy poo crap they run now.

And by the way, you're a douchebag if you post this kind of thread about how awesome it is to root for an elite program. Always loved dickheads that think they're so superior to others because they root for a super duper awesome sports team. Like you had any part in that success.....

Sam,

Count me and 99% of Husker Nation among those rooting for Alabama vs. Miami in 1993. The 'Canes of that era had to be among the most cocky and classless college teams EVER! Nebraska lost to Miami in the 1992 Orange bowl and we had to endure the mouthy, classless Hurrigangsta crap before, during, and after the game.

I know Tom Osborne loathed that program and it was sweet for everyone in this state to witness Warren Sapp, Ray Lewis, etc (among the worst Hurrigangstas ever) huffing and puffing in disbelief when they realized they were going to lose their asses in the 4th qtr. They sure shut the fuck up in the 4th qtr and some of them were bawling after the game.

Almost as sweet was the Husker demolition of Florida the following year. The media (especially ESPN) hadn't learned a fucking thing about Nebraska the last couple of years and predicted Spurrier's Fun-N-Gun Gators were just too quick and good to be beaten. Spurrier's expressions were priceless as he witnessed his team get beat beyond recognition as a Division 1 program. Good memories!

I agree. I wasn't meaning to downgrade any school's traditions. Alabama's is winning national titles. Iowa's is snagging the Cy-Hawk trophy and painting locker rooms pink. Pretty similar traditions, I guess.
Your traditions at Alabama are no bigger than our traditions at Iowa. The only difference is yours are more well known nationally but I could give 2 shits about national recognition. I don't go to Iowa games thinking "gee, this game doesn't mean as much to people in Butte, Montana as some other games so dammit I'm leaving!"

Alabama is not winning national titles. They haven't won one in many years. If national titles are everything than even the most successful programs fail miserably 90% of the years. 100+ years of CFB and what's the record for most titles? 10? And like I said......there's no true national champion in college football anyways. Never has been.
I can understand your feelings about the college game vs. the NFL. If I had such a mediocre program in my area, I'd probably feel the same way.
Yeah, except Iowa has a much more successful college program than the Chiefs do an NFL franchise so this pretty much shoots down your argument.
I'd take tickets to one major college game over season tickets to an NFL team's games any day.
Oh, I would too. I would attend 1 college game over 20 NFL games. Love the college atmosphere. The NFL atmosphere is just kinda........meh. I was talking purely the game itself.

And one more thing on this comment.........

I'm a die-hard Kansas City Royals fan. In fact, I'm a bigger Royals fan than Iowa fan because baseball is my favorite sport. I'd trade an Iowa national championship just to see the Royals in the playoffs 1 time. I'm a loyal fan to my teams. One team being more successful than another does not change my feelings about a sport. Royals could go 0-162 every year and baseball will always be my favorite sport and KC will always be my favorite team.

Will NEVER happen. David Glass is still turning a profit even after all these losing seasons. But if it did happen, Bud Selig had better fucking hope he's dead. Because if he isn't, that sumbitch gonna die in the most fucking cruel way ever. I can promise you that!

I don't care much for College baseball. I get to so many big league games it almost hurts my eyes to watch college ball. Its the same reason I will rarely go to an Iowa Cubs game. Besides I shoulda been on the Iowa baseball team. I was better than 90 percent of the bums on the team. Playedf against a lot of them for a long time and know I deserved a spot. One regret I have was going to a small college for a couple years. Had a partial scholly offer to a private school in DSM but wanted to go to Iowa. Oh well, shit happens.

I am not softball guy. Never played softball. Its almost as lame as college baseball. Over the past 20 years how many different programs have made the CWS? 10? Its the same teams every year. Its not even fair for teams in the cooler climates. Why the fuck is the CWS played in Omaha? Nobody up here gives a shit about college baseball. Nebraska has had a few good teams in recent years with Joba, Alex Gordon, etc but that's really the only program around here that ever does anything and they've made maybe a couple CWS in school history. I went to an Iowa baseball game this year because I was in town and saw they had a game. It was so fucking lame. No atmosphere. I can't even remember who the hell they played or if they won. HS baseball in Iowa is much more exciting. At least we had big crowds at our games. I have been training with our HS pitchers in the offseason and so I actually kinda enjoy watching a few of our games. But college baseball- fuck that.

Oregon State might have something to say about that.

And no one up there gives a shit? Riiiiiight. That is why the CWS is legendary. Talk to anyone who has been and the hospitality the locals roll out is amazing. Many people go each year regardless of if their team is in it.

Even the crazed idiots in Boston talk warmly about someday visiting the CWS.

People in Omaha/Council Bluffs care about College Baseball for a few days every year. Nobody here cares for college baseball. Why don't you post the average attendance for Midwest college baseball teams and then tell me exactly where and when I can find a college baseball game on cable here in Iowa and then tell me college baseball is popular around these parts.

I have been told the CWS is very entertaining and fun event by just about anyone that's gone. I also know people that go to the event every year and those are the first and only college games they watch each year. Trying to argue people around here give a crap about college baseball is a losing cause. Idiots here prefer wrestling to college baseball but then again that explains why gay marriage was legalized here..........

What makes you think that could happen?

They just finished a $250 mil renovation of Kauffman stadium, courtesy of Jackson county sales tax payers.

Despite sucking once again this year, they still draw respectable crowds. They have a very loyal and diehard fanbase. If they ever do get good again, this town would go nuts.

As for those who say the atmosphere at an NFL game doesn't match that of CFB, you've never tailgated at ARROWHEAD before a Chiefs game.

Chiefs tailgates are the shit but that's one team. I gotta say that basically every non-biased person I go to a Chiefs game with leaves the stadium saying how overrated the atmosphere was. I'm biased and so I love the atmosphere but then again they could play in a cornfield and I would rave about how awesome it is. But I do not hear the same views from non-Chiefs fans I go to games with.

I am sure the Pitt State-Northwest Missouri State game has better tailgates at Arrowhead than the chiefs.

Fucking NFL Fanboys...haha. The NFL is best to watch at home.

CFB is best to go to the game and have the goosebumps hit you at 6 am when you crack the first brew to get the tailgate started

Uhh, no. Not even close. The tailgating at the Truman Sports Complex is as good or better than ANY sporting event. Even the tailgating for Royals games is great. The parking lot is absolutely perfect for tailgating.

Have you been to the Kentucky Derby? And it's not all about setup, it's about atmosphere. An NFL game doesn't hold a candle to any college football rivalry game when it comes to tailgating.

RACK!

And I'd go a step further...

An NFL game doesn't hold a candle to even a second-tier rivalry game like Michigan-Michigan State or even Michigan-Notre Dame and that's with Michigan tailgating which cannot and should not be spoken in the same breath as many SEC tailgates. I'd have to say that basically any tailgate at LSU or even Tennessee will blow away any NFL tailgate.

i've been to a dozen or so Bronco games (most at the real, old Mile High including a couple Bronc-Raider games) and to me the "tailgating" and atmosphere doesn't even compare to CFB. it's a different animal of emotional investment, i guess, but it just doesn't really do it for me. in fact, despite many opportunities, i haven't been in 3-4 seasons because i'd rather do something else on Sundays...even if it's just kick it at home. i would consider from judging NFL "opinion" that Denver is considered one of the better if not elite venues and fanbases in the League. Colorado games, which i will attend when the once or twice a season op comes up (if it doesn't conflict with OU on TV), are probably in the upper third of CFB all things being equal (though I'm a HUGE fan of Folsom Field, very cool)...as far as tradition and fans and whatnot....and CU is a much better time than the Broncs to me.

I am not arguing the atmosphere at NFL games is even close to college. The atmosphere at Arrowhead is about as close as I have seen in the NFL and I've been to at least 7 or 8 different NFL stadiums. Nothing beats the atmosphere at a college football game.

However, I'm talking specifically the tailgating atmosphere at the Truman Sports Complex. The lot is perfect. You've got tents set up, loud drunken mother fuckers, music blasting, the smell of the best BBQ in the world everywhere, and a see of red. I know a lot of people that don't even go to the game because they don't really care about the Chiefs but they'll get to the stadium at 8 in the morning to tailgate because it's a lot of fun.

I would take KC tailgating over Iowa football tailgating and that says a lot considering Iowa's tailgating is some of the best in college football. Just ask 'Cuse fan........

And a playoff system, let's not forget that little detail.

And referees that don't allow 5th downs and kicked balls to turn into TD's... let's not forget that either.

As for the parking lot pic, on Chiefs gameday during a tailgate, you couldn't have even seen the dual stadiums for all the BBQ smoke, so I guess it's a good thing they took that pic when the lots were empty.

Post some pics on why a chiefs tailgate is so damn great.

I own a home on the eastern rim of the stadiums(Arrowhead and Kauffman) which happen to be in the same parking lot.... and I'll be flying into KC in the next 3 weeks.

The place is a parking lot since the down turn in the economy over the last 6 years.

You actually have to have people "in the parking lot" to have a tailgate. When the Royals are playing (at home) you'd think they were on the road.

The Chiefs aren't doing much better. I'll be spending most of my time across the river in Kansas.
